Then said figure better be $50. IMO Hasbro could put out a stormshadow that you're looking for. I'm looking for something a little cooler.

Then what you seek isn't a RAH era Storm Shadow.

:lecture
I would pay $80-$90 for a nicely tailored SS figure on the Prometheus body with lots of detailed weaponry (including bow with several arrows).

I don't want/need a "Storm Shadow" adorned with a bunch of gaudy post-modern nonsense. And I for one would pass on such a figure, no matter what the price.

Well looks like I'm outvoted. Makes it an easy for me if all we get out of storm shadow is a enlarged 1984 version (unless its priced much less than the Snake Eyes). True to the original, sure, but extremely boring.

I have no particular passion for the cannon or comics of RAH (though GI Joe was probably second to none in my childhood as a toy) and I only want the coolest toy possible.

The SSC Snake Eyes is pretty bad ass and I felt the liberties they made against the Hasbro card art were more than acceptible and actually is an improvement over the original design (save the exclusion of Timber). If the liberties SSC takes with Storm Shadow are of the same quality and improvement over the straight forward design, I'm all for it.

As far as adhering to "classic" or "realistic" I think they mentioned a third viewpoint "fantasy" that I think needs to be added to make Storm Shadow cooler. I think you guys are sacrificing a lot of possible coolness to maintain that classic look and the toy itself will suffer. I think the people at both Hasbro and SSC realize that they need to add a bit more to most of the Joe's classic design to make it viable as a 2000s toy. The 25th Anniversary updates included.

Well gotta go, see you all monday. I am interested in developing this conversation though.

I'm with you PM. I want Sideshow to do for Stormshadow what they did for Snake Eyes. Not the same figure in white, but updating and badassing it as well as they did with Snake. I am not saying white fatigue pants and combat boots. But not the simple design from the early 80's either.

And, realistically, and based on what Sideshow has stated, I think EVERYONE better brace themselves for a re-vision of Storm Shadow. I enthusiastically await it. Some of you others may need to steel yourselves for it.

I don't dislike the old Stormshadow. In the 80's that design was very modern and cool. And I liked it as much as anyone. But I think Sideshow will do a very good job as well. Just not the same.

I agree with Prog, as long as Sideshow makes visually appealing and detailed figures, I will be interested.

As long as they make G.I. JOE: Real American Hero™ figures (like the announcement promised), I'll be interested.

I love how Snake Eyes turned out, but the more they deviate from the original designs the more I (and others) will lose interest. If you want simply 100% realistic, modern military figures, Hot Toys has tons for you. If you want fantasy figures, those are all over the place as well. It defeats the purpose to set out to make G.I. JOE: RAH figures and then start retro-designing the characters.

I stll have faith that Sideshow will do right by RAH fans.

As long as you can look at the figure and instantly tell who the character is.

Giving us a fully detailed and decked out Marine in desert camo and calling him Gung Ho isn't going to fly. He needs a grenade launcher and a open front vest to show off his Marine tatoo.

I'd be fine with them giving Gung Ho a shirt for more "realism" as long as they still put the tatoo on his chest. Then we'd still have the option of removing the shirt to keep the classic look.

Keep in mind that most of us arguing in favor of keeping the vintage costumes intact are still very happy with how Snake Eyes and apparently Cobra Commander are turning out even with the modifications. Sideshow will just be placing the extra burden on themselves to make their design changes that much cooler to justify the changes in the first place. If they keep the character intact and actually improve the design in someway, great. I'm a little nervous that the more changes they make, the more likely a beloved character will miss the mark. Snake Eyes = total success. Cobra Commander design = mostly successful. How long will they keep that track record? We'll just have to see.

Some of you are cracking me up. You post pictures of the card art and say if SS doesn't produce something just like that, they fail. Storm Shadow's belt, on the old figure, contains a blade and throwing stars! I want all of you traditionalists to perform a little experiment:

Gather every knife you own, and tuck them into the waist of your pants. Now go outside and sprint half a mile. If you don't bleed to death from lacerations before you make it back, you can tell us how the experiment went. :lol

How realistic and updated can a ninja figure be that stores his cutting weapons in his pants?

As for the silver helmet version of Cobra Commander, if I remember correctly, that figure was first a mail away promotional figure. It wouldn't surprise me if SS makes that figure a convention promo.

Both Cobra Commanders were originally released as mail aways. The helmet Cobra Commander was available as a mail away in 1982, and then released carded in 1983. He was available by sending in five flag points from Joe packages. The hooded Cobra Commander was available as a mail away from inserts packaged inside Joe vehicles and accessories. He was never available carded.

Great second post!!!! Looks like you've been working on that for a week.

I expected something a little less smarmy and vapid from someone self labeled insufferable. Finding a new forum member, and puffing up your chest at them to see if they roll over is no way to make friends. Is that your only gimmick?

Let me save you some time looking up smarmy and vapid. https://www.merriam-webster.com

I still think it's a safe bet that Sideshow is not going to put a Storm Shadow out there with bladed weapons stuffed down his pants.

That would look awesome.

If Storm Shadow is a touchy subject, we can start talking about changing Destro's drag queen collar. That collar is Boy George fantastic.

I'm really excited to see where they go with the future figures. Cobra Commander and Destro especially.

And as for the Storm Shadow... It's a small nit, not a huge deal. They can include the stars and knife and if anyone wants to pose it with them there... like the card art.. they can. It's not a huge deal.

What everyone is saying... Is that being a fan of this, we want the figures to be their classic representations for the most part. No Gung Ho without the chest tat, Destro without his classic clothing and mask, etc. If we wanted updated looks, we would be drooling over the Joe movie... Small changes are ok as long as they don't destroy the character's classic look.

It's exactly the same as if Sideshow were making updated versions of Star Wars characters. "Han's clothing looks so dated, let's make it into a skin tight black sneak suit!" :lol

Insufferable cause I speak my mind on figures I'm dropping $$$ on now and ones to come in the future. Don't like it, ignore feature is your friend. The Josh could tell you how that works.

Storm Shadow is a important figure/character. There is a reason his first figure goes for big bucks and the other "more interesting" figures don't.

And Destro better have the collar, jewel medalion necklace and wrist rockets/grenades as well.

He needs to be pretty close to the 83 version cause there is no modern real word version of a character like him.

I was literally going to post that very same thing. :lol

Look how "plain" and "boring" Luke's white Tatooine outfit is. Imagine if SS "updated" it with different pockets and colors to better accomodate his equipment. :monkey4

On a side note I noticed in the video that special mention is given to Flint, Beach Head, Duke, Rock n Roll, and Zartan. I wonder if that means we'll be seeing those figures sooner rather than later.

I just can't wait to see where it goes.... There are so many cool choices. Flint, Beach Head, Duke, Shipwreck, Gung-Ho, Crimson Guards, Zartan, Baroness, Scarlett, Destro, Major Bludd..... the list goes on and on. So far, Snake Eyes is a dream come true... Cobra Commander looks to be on the right track.

Sideshow tapped right into that part of my brain that holds my youthful nostalgia. G.I Joe and He-Man were HUGE for me as a kid, This line is like opening pandora's box in my mind.... No turning back now. :lol
