In one of the videos out there, someone actually visited Secret Base and saw this prototype in person and inquired with the staff. The staff sort of implied that HT will eventually do something with this sculpt after the internet outcry, but the timing is uncertain at this time. Whether we can trust a comment of a lowly retail staff is questionable at best. Who knows?

It really is a nice looking figure aside from the sculpt. If they fix it I want it for the collection. Even though she’s not necessarily essential because I imagine she won’t be involved in the DCU.

It’s just weird that Hot Toys put this out the way that they did. Might be one of their worst sculpts and it’s coming after a pretty strong streak of good likenesses.

Someone had to have looked at it before posting and allowing the pre-order to go through and second guessed it.

The dilemma
  • Many people buy it hoping HT will fix the sculpt - HT: Hey look at this good sales! Don't change a thing!
  • Many people don't buy it due to the bad the head sculpt - HT: Hey look at this low numbers.. Not worth spending more money on this.

Haha yes.

Even though I have absolutely NO PART in the creation of any of these figures, when I first saw the headsculpt on this I felt a little embarrassed by the thought of what Sasha Calle would think/feel when first setting eyes on this figure and seeing this headsculpt.
I was watching an interview with Sasha the other day, and she said she had no idea what merchandise is made of her character and relies on fans to tag her on posts. I thought of how terrible people have been to her because of the head sculpt on this figure (saying she ((rather than the figure)) looks like a man anyway, that she looks trans, or she shouldn't have gotten the role because she's not white, etc). She's likely aware of this figure, and I hope she didn't read the comments. No one deserves that, regardless of whether or not the figure looks good or not. These people are just using the figure as an excuse to be mean.

Yikes I didn’t know people were saying stuff like that about her. It is really sad when the toxic side of these communities reveal themselves…very unfortunate.

So this movie has turned into the biggest comicbook movie bomb in the history of cinema. Not sure if Sasha would be back for another go as Supergirl in DCU. She deserves one for sure, and the Woman of Tomorrow storyline sort of jive with the jaded Supergirl she played. It is totally unfair to her to be carrying baggage of this bomb. It was not her fault. But if this is her only time playing Supergirl, will HT please get it together and get us a decent sculpt for this rather unique version of Supergirl? Please?

Sadly they're not going to give anyone connected to this film another shot after this. And I'll be surprised if the director stays attached to the new DCU Batman film either.

I have taken the plunge and PO’ed. I guess I will either join the group that cancels when the final sculpt is released unchanged or gets even worse or be part of the group that rejoices with a better updated sculpt that bears a much stronger (not really hoping for spot on) resemblance to Ms. Calle. We can only hope!

I just saw her interview where she talked about ordering and getting her own Supergirl Barbie and it was hilarious to watch her fangirling herself. I do wonder what happens when and if HT fixes this and she gets her hands on an acceptable HT Supergirl… what would be her reaction?

Where are you getting your info from? I just looked on boxofficemojo and this has taken double what Shazam 2 did. To be fair a lot of sure fire hits are under performing this year, Quantumania, this, Indy, Transformers, Fast X. Plenty of explanations, too many films, poor quality films, people still not going back to cinemas after covid, super hero fatigue etc etc.

The movie production plus marketing needs about $450M WW BO to break even. The current WW BO is at $260M. It will be a loss of close to $200M for a comicbook movie. No comicbook movie has ever lost this much money.
Ok it’s nearly double the budget of Shazam 2 wow. $125m vs $200m.

I don't know, when you've got a guy that is willing to say that he intended the CGI to look like that to help the studio save face, I think you hold on to him.

Is the CGI on this film really that bad?

I haven’t seen it yet, so if the CGI is as abysmal as many people are saying I may just wait and watch the movie at home. I think seeing a film with really poor CG on the “big screen” will only exacerbate/highlight the visual shortcomings of this film and make the experience less enjoyable.

The CG is only "bad" when it's of The Flash doing his thing and in the Speed Force. The rest of the film (the Batman(s) stuff, Supergirl, the Zod and his army stuff, seems quite good to me. I do think there is artistic interpretation with Flash's stuff, and I can see how it can be construed as being bad but I do think they intended for it to be unique to some extent.

While I agree that it wasn't all bad to me either (I've definitely seen much worse), and even though the director has given that same explanation of it being something like artistic interpretation or intended to look that way, one of the VFX artists that worked on the film has already come out saying, "if it looks like a VFX shot in The Flash was made in a week, it's probably because it was"

Yeah the CGI definitely had an unfinished look to it, but as someone who's watched an awful lot of bad CGI in the various CW shows over the years, it's not something that really bothers me much as long as the story is entertaining enough. Which in this case I thought it was.

I hear you. But at least with the TV shows I imagine their budgetary constraints probably make top-level CGI difficult to achieve, but on a film with a budget of $250 mil I would think the visuals should be good to excellent.

Then again maybe as some of you have suggested, the parts that looked “bad” were intentionally made to look that way to clearly indicate the “Speed Force” or whatever.

Either way I feel sort of bad for the folks behind this film since it is doing so poorly at the box office and the critical reception has been mixed at best. Seems like they are being assailed from all sides and can’t catch a break. Meanwhile “Across the Spiderverse” (awesome movie) is breaking records and receiving tremendous praise.
