Avengers Franchise? SW ?
Which one is a failure? Cause both made tones of money.

Those are quite a few years ago now (the Star Wars ST is 2015-2019.) More recently I'd say off the top of my head there's: Marvels, Haunted Mansion, Lightyear, Strange World, Mulan, Turning Red, Quantumania, Wish - even poor ol' (and I do mean old) Indy. Others like Jungle Cruise that are more lukewarm than underperformers/bombs like the above.

It's gotten so bad Disney itself makes statements disputing the "bomb" label like with Elemental which essentially broke even but clearly pales in BO vs directly comparable stuff like (the utterly brilliant) Inside Out.

I certainly don't think another Maverick is necessary.

There have been several attempts, over the years, but more as of late, to try to get a Top Gun prestige TV series off the ground. But it's got logistical problems as a concept. You'd need consistent and high level DOD support. While they might do that for one single film, to do that for an entire TV series run is another animal altogether. You can attempt to justify it as a type of "recruitment" vehicle for the military, but traditional recruitment is down anyway. There's no way to do it without creating backlash over actual tax payer dollars.

Would a series work with Tom Cruise only showing up for cameos? Investors wouldn't bet on that. Also in order to get DOD support at this kind of level, they'd want final approval on any script. On paper, it's asking for "input", but it's actually genuine final approval.

It used to be that getting DOD support usually meant avoiding making the military look in a bad light (There's stuff that Ridley Scott could not cover nor show in Black Hawk Down, even if it was vetted and seen as essential by author Mark Bowden) Now, it would mean forcing storylines into the narrative. I just don't see Cruise being amenable to culture war issues nor being a 2 and a half hour commercial for Raytheon in his signature franchise.

I can see TG3 going right into developmental hell. Cruise is getting real old and real fast. His window to do something like this won't last forever. There are outside factors that are in play that could stall this project into oblivion.

I always assumed any Top Guin sequels would focus on other pilots, such as ‘Top Gun : Rooster’ or Top Gun : Hangman’. You could still have a reduced part for Cruise but it could be a formula for a few more good films if they were done properly.

I was re-watching Episodes 7-9 and boy oh boy.....they are all bad. I mean really bad...People give 7 a free pass, I don't get why.

Focusing on 8 and 9....NINE was actually the worst. Episode 8, Ruin Johnson was bad, but hilariously bad. 9 was just awful with little humor, just WTF. It was fun to make fun of TLJ, but ROS was just plain bad.

Daisy Ridley is a terrible actress and all Finn did was scream.....Rey! Rey! REY! Just embarrassing. Also I think she never lost a fight. She beat Luke Skywalker handily.

I notice the only guy with any attitude/common sense was Poe and he was always wrong and told he was wrong and he actually had the most common sense. Holdo was insufferable. Nothing made sense in any heroic universe story telling. She talked down to everyone, and her words had ZERO military and practical meaning. It made no sense for her not to tell Poe the "plan."

I also realized Mark Hamill cannot act. Loved him as Luke in the originals, but he's a terrible actor in everything else....obviously he's a great voice actor, but yeah...

Some of the stupid scenes were the horses, the last kiss, the Emperor everything, Holdo smirking at everyone, Flying Leia, and yeah...this is going on too long.

Rey is an awful character and I cannot see her having another movie, NO MATTER what they announce..It seems they tried hard to make Daisy and Holdo Bad Assessss but it came off very forced, unattural and rude, and everything other than I guess cool. They both lack grace and humility, more-so Holdo obviously.

I don't know what to say that hasn't been said beyond the above. I am shocked I thought Episode 8(TLJ) was better than ROS.

Rey is an awful character. There's nothing to her. She's the hero because the story, and outfit, tell you so... but she doesn't do much that is heroic. She has no real choice anywhere. She is moved like a chess piece to where she needs to be to move to the next scene -- like falling in the sand right where that knife is, or using that knife to find her next McGuffin, somehow once again she's standing in the exact right spot -- not from her cleverness, not from earning it, just from necessity of the writers.

"Apprentice Diary Day #8. After 7 days of grueling tasks that promise to help me become the bestest Jedi ever, I was becoming jaded with the whole thing. But after days of my pleading to learn to fly a fighter, Master agreed to take me to Galaxy's Edge where I could get direct experience!"

What's this from? It's so well done.

Those are all hysterical.
Though it slightly bugs me it's Luke being dragged through as the vehicle for it. It should be her own creepy Grandfather guiding/using and compelling her on this path. :lol
Even the soda can is funny.
