Orlando would be nice since I'm planning on going there for vacation at some point next year. However, in a perfect world for me it'd be in Boston, a nice short drive for me.

Man if its in Chicago I'll buy the pizza!

I wonder where in Chicago would they like to do this?...
I hope not in Rosemont, it's way too small for this...
Downtown in McCormick place would be better, though it would be a traffic nightmare since the EL doesn't get there... just the buses...
Interesting, if it's in Chicago I'll be there though...

I've heard it would be at some big, huge new convention center downtown?

MegaCon is in August if I remember correctly. August is considered off season for the theme park region. Its the last week of August which at both Disney World and Universal Studios is considered "value" season. If Celebrations follow suit it'd be in April which is considered peak season and has amazing attendance for both major theme parks from not only Spring Break traffic, Easter vacationeers and International travellers. Anyone who has been to Orlando during this time period can testify to how busy it is and how hard it is to get a room even a couple of months ahead. Now imagine a major Star Wars celebration to the already busy travel time and you've got a major headache.

MegaCon happens right around Spring Break every year. The one in August is "Mini MegaCon" and this is the first year for that one. The main con has always been in early Spring.

It would be at McCormick Place right on the lakefront next to Soldier Field.

From Rebelscum.com:

Campbell, Co-Founder of the Star Wars Grand Florida Alliance, called in with some curious information this evening:

"Documents released by the Orlando Convention & Visitors Bureau indicate that Orlando is indeed bidding for Celebration V in 2010. The tentative dates, if the show comes to Orlando, would be Thursday, August 12th through Sunday August 15th, 2010. The anticipated attendance is 30,000 with approximately 15,000 rooms filled at peak. The Orange County Convention Center is currently holding 1 million square feet of space in the West Complex.

A presentation is being prepared for Lucasfilm and Reed Exhibitions next week and the group plans to narrow down the candidate cities to (2) by October 10th. From there, site visits will commence for the rest of the month with a tentative decision to be made by November 1st.

Perhaps just as interesting, is that a second bid is listed for an additional Celebration in August of 2014.

It's important to note that this information in no way, shape or form means Orlando will get Celebration V, but that the machine is very much in motion and that Orlando is ramping up and putting its best foot forward to acquire this huge piece of business."

An interesting note, the previously unnamed Reed Exhibitions is the same company that has organized New York Comic-Con for the last few years. Should be interesting to find out if this pans out. Thanks for the heads up, Campbell!

While this is very exciting to hear that an announcement may be close, we have still not received any official word from Lucasfilm Ltd. regarding a date or location for Celebration V. At this point, it's still any one's guess as to when or where it will be. It sure is fun to speculate though! As always, stay tuned right here for up to the minute information regarding this and all Star Wars news.

Sweet! :rock

Those of you who live out-of-state can kill two birds with one stone by coming to Celebration V and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal.

VERY interesting. Made hotel reservations just in case...lol.

Figured why not, can cancel at any time.

August would mean value season at the resorts all around. If you nab a hotel room early you should be able to get a fairly good deal.

Great. Right in the middle of something during that timeframe. Oh well.

Very interesting indeed. I'm still hoping for Chicago so I can drive there, and spend 1-2 less days in a hotel. Plus, Orlando will be very hot and humid in August...

OMG that would be freaking awesome if it was in O-town. No crazy hotel $$$ to worry about. I'm just a short 45 minute drive away and I know some peeps that will let me crash on their floor. :banana:banana:banana:banana:banana
