Does it play any different to Brotherhood mate?Got the 'tutorial part' of the story out of the way and I have a few thoughts to share, and I'll try not to spoil anything.
Firstly, I tried this out on my 3D TV, and the 3D is actually very nice. It adds a real nice depth to cities, and the cinematic counter attacks look that tiny bit more cool too.
I'm loving the approach they've taken for the story in this game, first thought when seeing it was negative but after playing it for a bit I've grown to like it a lot. There is also a chase in the early stages of the game, all I'm going to say on that is that I had fun!
Now, back to Skyrim for a bit me-thinks
Got this game last night and played for about 30 minutes. Gosh! Need to re-adjust to AC controls after playing Arkham City and Uncharted 3..
I'm curious as to what everyone thinks of Desmond and Ezio's new look...to me Desmond looks nothing like Desmond anymore and Ezio looks off to me...I mean I know he's supposed to be old, but to me ot doesn't look like him at all...anyone else playing the game feel the same way?
I have been playing this with the TriOrviz 3D mode on (glasses came with Arkham Asylum) and it is a bit dark but the 3D rendering gives the game (to me) a cool scope. I have been doing nothing but death matches today and the death shots look awesome.
Spoiler:
I like the Desmond missions. They are optional and plays very different from the main game but it's a nice detour. They really explain his backstory a lot (which was never really elaborated for Desmond in all the games before) and the result is a better understanding of his motivations and why he ran away in the first place.
The Altair missions are interesting because it talks about what happens after the first game, but they are all really short and all take place in Masyaf, the Assassin's stronghold. Ubisoft missed some great opportunity here to really make this a truly two characters game. The way they have been advertising it is like you get to play Altair in other locations too, especially locations that Ezio visited in the present (or past) but no. As of now, it feels like Altair is just a minor distraction. Kinda like the Desmond missions.
But they do give you a better understanding of Altair's motivations and last years of life.
The good thing is this plays like the previous games. The bad thing is it plays like the previous game. The hookblade is a nice but ultimately not an essential addition. You have very little use for it honestly. You have some new counters but that's it. Honestly, the battles are never AC strong points and I hope they improve that in the next game cause it's really the weakest point of the game.
I missed the outside the Animus segments. This time you are stuck alone on an 'island' and other than the occasional 'voices' you hear, you are alone. I really missed Shaun and Rebecca and Lucy is really dead for good. And they explain her dead in essentially one sentence.
I was hoping for a better explanation for the stabbing scene from the previous game but it seems that there is none and it looks like a poor attempt to write the character out.
The main mission is kinda disappointing. It lacked the sense of 'scale' of the previous games. In previous games, you have this feeling that you are doing something for the greater good and the whole world or the future of mankind is at stake. In this game, I don't really feel that. Everything feels really minor in comparison and lack the sense of epicness.
There are infact very little assassination missions going on. There are more sequence than the previous game but most of the missions are concentrated on looking for the Masyaf keys.
The tower defense games are kinda annoying. It's another nice distraction but the outcome can be so random that more often than not, you wasted 10 to 15 minutes doing something for nothing. I really hope I don't see a return of this in the next game.
I love the Uncharted style missions but there are few and far in between. Another missed opportunity there.
I am not sure if Jesper Kyd does the score for this but they are kinda forgettable. Some nice tunes here and there but overall pales in comparison to previous games. Weakest soundtrack IMHO.
There are very little historical character interaction. Previous games have loads of them and I love those. Feels like you are a part of history. This game not so much and whatever interaction you do have is very limited. And there is no Da Vinci. That itself is extremely saddening, to take a character that has been with Ezio for so long away. Sure Ezio is in a different country now but they could have incorporated him or something or at least find suitable replacement.
I also haven't found any ultimate armour so I am not sure if there is even any.
Even the ending is kinda clifhanger-ish for Desmond. I mean there is a definate bittersweet ending for Altair and Ezio but for Desmond, it's the same c*cktease they have been teasing us with since the second game and we are no where close to it. I really hope there will be some solid conclusion for desmond story in the next game cause they have drawn it out far too long.
That said, it's a a game to play, even if the only motivation for me at this point is the story and even that is starting to lose its luster.
Don't you unlock the locations on the map the more viewpoints you synchronise? I might be wrong, but I seem to remember they started showing up for me as I did that.Spoiler:For those who completed the game,do you get a Map or any hints at all where to find the Data Fragments?Ive obtained 30 of 100 and really want to unlock the remaining Desmond Journey's.
