Yeah it definitely got caught up in AIDS big time, but Cronenberg never specifically said it was a metaphor for AIDS and it's more of symbolizing the aging process.

It's upsetting that Cronenberg's sequel will never get made since FOX didn't want to meet his budget. He wrote the script in the past few years, and it sounds like it was going to be based in the same universe but have nothing to do with the story or characters of the 1986 film. But it would have a modern understanding of technology and DNA involving teleportation.

Favorite horror film alway's good 4 a laugh and scare The Texas Chainsaw movie 2 with Dennis Hopper. There's a killer in the movie leather face's brother is funny as hell in the film. The creepyness scene when 1st see him in leatherface at the radio station is scarey and funny, I never get tired of this film. My 2nd favorite is Dead alive this movie is just funny ,bloody as hell!

Hands down, the absolute best werewolf special effects ever done.

Using the same allegory you could say JC's The Thing was way ahead of its time.

Totally agree-loved all the films in his Apocalypse Trilogy (The Thing, Prince of Darkness, In The Mouth Of Madness). He's one of my favorite directors-love to watch The Fog this time of year as well.

Hands down, the absolute best werewolf special effects ever done.

So many great horror movies I don't think I could ever pick a favourite. But if I had to nail it down right now I'd possibly say Night of the Living Dead (original of course). The first time I saw that when I was a kid I had nightmares for years about the small village I was in being over run by zombies and being trapped. I suppose it had lots to do with being out in the middle of nowhere. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (original again) had a similar effect on me too. Think it's a small town paranoia thing. But yeah, Night of the Living Dead always stayed really close to me. It's the perfect zombie movie.

Also, really love the original Balck Christmas. I discovered that about 20 years ago randomly late one night at Christmas time having never heard of it and it blew me away. It was so creepy and spooky. Scared the hell out of me. And I'd never met anyone that had even heard of it so it made it seem more special too. Haha.

How do you feel about the utterly pointless prequel being made?

I feel like it's an utterly pointless prequel. they really should have left it as a trilogy anyway. But the idea of a prequel is terrible. I love the mystery of the first film. It's never explained what exactly is happening, there's the scientists on tv giving their theories but it's never actually established what has caused this and I think that's brilliant. Just this bizarre situation that's sprung out of nowhere and everyone is trying to deal with it. You hear people's individual situations as to how they got there but only brief stuff, enough to flesh them out as real people without giving too much info. It's a brilliant movie in my eyes and doesn't need anymore. I know Dawn of the Dead is generally considered the classic that everyone loves, and I do love that too, but for me Night of the Living Dead is everything a zombie movie should be. Man, I'd forgotten just how much that film means to me until I started talking about it.

Yeah I love the trilogy too, although I thought Day was the weakest... I'd watch it any day over that HORRIBLE remake with Ving Rhames. I always appreciated leaving the origin a mystery, but in today's society it's all about spoon feeding the audience and not allowing them to draw their own conclusions.

Yeah I haven't seen Day in a long time but I remember not enjoying it as much as the first two. I was excited when I heard Romero was making a new one (I think it was Land of the Dead) but then it seemed pretty bad. Never got round to seeing it though, and Diary of the Dead just annoyed me because I despise the "found footage" type of thing. I generally avoid anything from this spate of prequels and remakes and sequels of older movies. If it's a classic, its a classic for a reason. Don't mess with it. But I suppose it's all about squeezing money out of a franchise.

Keeping on topic, my birthday was a week ago and my girlfriend bought me the Fly box set, with the original three movies, the remake and the sequel all in a teleporter pod case. Very cool.

The original Nightmare on Elm Street. One of my all time favorite horror movies. It's timeless in my opinion. When I watch Friday the 13th and even Halloween, you definitely can tell it's the 80s, but idk, Nightmare feels like it could almost be more recent. Great flick.

Ugh Land of the Dead, anything he's done since has been horrible.

I only own the Special Edition DVD of The Fly, since I read that the Blu Ray had no special features... like most Blu Rays.
