Predator 5 - Prey (2022)

True. That was what they led with in the early marketing and it was quite an eyerolling thing to read in the context of a Predator movie of all things. Plus it came after we'd had Terminator Dark Fate highlighting much the same stuff in its own marketing and look how that turned out. It ruined T2's ending in a way that none of the prior sequels ever had, bad as they were, and what did it offer in compensation? Pretty much an identical storyline and the usual increasingly absurd chase set-pieces that can't be taken seriously as occurring in a real world with physics and human mortality. And John Connor being replaced by a girl was supposed to make all of this worthwhile like as though that was the thing that was wrong with those prior films? 'Fraid not guys.

But look, marketing missteps notwithstanding maybe they've actually pulled something off here.

At this point I have no problem with a "girl". Let's be frank: native americans were bad asses, so of all the humans that faced Predators I feel them having the biggest chances.

My problem with the Predator franchise, after these sequels, is that the Predator...are PREY.
Not one Predator finished his prey, they were all killed...the biggest hunters in the galaxy are their own prey in this movie franchise and I wanna see a Predator win for a change.

With that being said: looking forward to it and will listen to the score now.

The predator itself was cool but there was no consistency with how strong or agile he was from scene to scene. He was super badass when they needed him to be and then a fumbling buffoon as well when the plot called for it.

The same with all Preds to be honest. They're badass until the script needs them not to be. Given their size, skills and technology they should be dispatching every living thing with ease.

Good point. I'd love to see a Predator win. I guess the message the filmmakers have been saying all this time is that human beings are the best and we always win, no matter what, so don't even think about messing with us!

It's really boring.

Other than Dutch and his crew in the first movie, I never even remotely liked any of the characters in the other sequels or in the AvP movies. I didn't want them to win.

I downloaded this and skimmed through it. It was exactly what I expected. Life is too short to spend 90 minutes watching this movie. Wasn't impressed at all with the Predator's design, and I hate hate hate CGI blood and gore. Looks so fake. I guess they do it that way now so they can release the sanitized versions easier. Kind of hard to do that when you use balloons full of fake blood on set like Tarantino does. So instead, we see people getting dismembered with stupid shiny flashes of CGI blood.

Cinematically it looks very good from the start. It actually reminded me of the old video game, Gun.

I never expect anything 'great' from these long running franchises, but this one has something different going for it with the period and the setting. Plus I really hope this will encourage some companies to tap into the market for more realistic 1/6 Native American figures.

You are actually the first to read that it's boring/not good.
I hope for the best, but seemingly...again...it's shares the same fate.

It's a decent movie, great addition to the franchise and heading in the right direction after the last stinker.

Everything looked great but the Predator design was a stepback imo. Great arsenal though...

Reminded me of playing the 2010 Aliens vs. Predator game. I only enjoyed playing as the Predator because they had the best of both worlds.

Playing as a Marine was both terrifying and frustrating, because you always seemed on the verge of being hopelessly swarmed by Aliens.

Playing as an Alien was really trippy due to the graphics and the speed of movement. It gave me weird, feverish nightmares. Spinning round and round in black and white swirls, seemingly endlessly.

I had a lot more fun being a Predator.

This was by far the DUMBEST predator yet, and I'm convinced his clan got tired of him hanging around, and dumped him on earth just to get rid of him. Also, that face design... yeesh.

Ultimately, waste of a really good premise. Setting and human characters were great, but the predator itself... was, basically, just a knock-off predator-like creature from one of the direct-to-DVD Asylum movies. Just like with the Alien, people need to stop trying to "improve" designs that were created by people MUCH more capable than they will ever be, because, again, like the Alien, the predator designs are just getting further and further away from what made them unique and iconic creatures in the first place and are starting to enter generic, knock off monster territory.

And, yes, I'm a grumpy old man. I always go into these movies knowing they won't live up to the classics, but I'm always still surprised at how they can consistently be worse than I expected them to be.

To be honest I don't remember seeing it's eyes. Mask on most of the time and when it's face is revealed it's a bit of a dissapointment. I'll be watching again later

I don’t have Hulu so I’ll be waiting until it hits the $5.00 bin at Walmart…
