One thing about Doom that needs to be updated is his green miniskirt.

Hood and cloak is OK... but give the man a little length.
LOL...I was thinking the same thing recently.
Bah, you lot are just Plebs. Tunics and Chitons are for Patricians!

scad-64452-105156-09d-456-014_orig.jpg

The problem isn't the tunic, it's that the design is too empty. Kings and Emperors, Knights and everything, used to have a lot more pomp, so Doom ends up looking like some hobo instead of a Monarch.

Armor_Garniture_of_George_Clifford_%281558%E2%80%931605%29%2C_Third_Earl_of_Cumberland_MET_DP295743.jpg

His look needs to be updated with some ornate armour and clasps, a design on the tunic itself, and so on. Something like the following is a good enough start, depending on whether you need him to be more like a Dictator or a Royal:
flat,750x1000,075,f.u2.jpg

I dumped everything as soon as I turned 15. No way was any of the above gonna get me any action. :ROFLMAO:

(To be fair, that's a particularly goofy example but none of the 'dark and gritty' stuff was gonna cut it with the ladies either, so buh-bye.)
Bah, no real comicfan would ever let pesky f*mes get between him and his big, bulging, muscled supermen in colourful tights or tight black leather.

Victor Von Doom is such a stupid name tho.
It's less that it's stupid and more that it makes no sense. He's a Balkan gyppo yet his name has the English spelling of Victor, the German Von, and then the random English word Doom. It's not just corny it's just bad worldbuilding.

Darkothosis is gonna be mad when the mcu cast a girl or a black man for doom. My guy is gonna implode
doom-silence.gif

You'll jinx it!

He's a Balkan gyppo. Or sometimes a German-esque Royal. It'd make literally 0 sense to turn a guy named Victor Von Doom who LARPs as a Medieval King into some American black guy.

Idris Elba could make a good Doom actually.
Ya beat me to it.
With his voice and size, he's great for almost any hero or villain.
Doom's theatric, operatic. You need a British stage actor. You need the kind of energy Gary Oldman brings into his schlocky and serious roles. You can't racebend Doom. He needs to be either a Euro or a gyppo, period.

Elba would've been a pefect Blade but that ship has sailed. Mahersala Ali would've made a better Kang at that. I can't take that other guy seriously and I never will. He's too goofy looking.
I think the guy from Breaking bad would be a great Doom. I forget his name but he owns the chicken place and has been in countless films
I really don't see how a 60 Y0 5'7" African-American who's been typecast as "le EBIN mastermind who's like quiet and polite but is secretly sociopathic" works as a manic LARPing crazy genius who's at his core evil sorcerer Batman, but normies seem to love it.

Besides, we all know the FF will be racebent and represent the wholesome diverse America and Doom will be the evil old-world European Nobillity.

Lol that’s true. But dr doom is iconic and marvel has this weird thing with turning iconic characters into black peoples or girls. So if he’s not black then expect a lesbian female . I’m just being realistic lol

Even in the previous F4 film, they had Doom coming out of a garbage trunk. :lol

Gangsta Doom went a little crazy with the face tattoos, but you make a good point about the outfit. I don't know if you're familiar with the Mortal Kombat games and characters, but to your point, in the first MK game, while iconic, the character's costumes were very simple, which is one of the reasons they're iconic, simplicity is usually easier to remember than some elaborate mess. Anyway, if you look at those character's costumes in the latest MK game, they are more elaborate and don't look like cheap bought from a store costumes like the originals. Characters like Raiden now look godly and Scorpion and Subzero also look like real ninjas.

I fully believe most of the X-Men will be racebend, and the FF will be "diverse", but not Doom. He's the go-to evil anachronistic Euro Monarch. He'll be the new Loki. Dark-haired white boy for the Tumblrinas to fall in love with. Now, the X-Men, yeah, those are gonna be changed. I'll be surprised if Jean remains a white redhead. Gambit and maybe Rogue will be turned black. Xavier maybe, but I think they might go for Asian. Magneto I think they'll keep the Jewish thing going, and they might want to tie him in with Wanda later. Cyclops will probably still be white. They might turn Wolverine into a Native American in order to get diversity bux and distance themselves from Jackman, as it'd be hard to replace him in the public consciousness. Really, I'm not expecting even half of the muties to remain as they are. Maybe the ethnic representations like Sunfire or Colossus and Magik, who are to tied to their countries to get a racial makeover. Hey, as long as I get a Magik dolly...

c286d23408e8dc7b2034aa76165b4675.jpg

X-Wise I want the Summers/Greys (Cyclops, Jean, Rachel, Cable, and Havok I probably will skip because I don't care for him), their main adversaries (Sinister, Apocalypse), the core duo (Xavier, Magneto) and then some randoms (Fantomex, Magik, Emma, Deadpool, Brand). I think I'll stop it there, max, so these are the ones I want to be accurately cast. For example, Sunfire and Nightcrawler I always found cool looking and interesting as characters, but I'll have to skip such cases (Beast, Archangel, Sage and others fall under there too). I used to, uh, "like" Rogue and Psylocke a whole lot too, but I'm not dropping 300$ for such reasons. Between all the different costumes and the such, restraining it to around 10 figures is best for me. Magik I want to pose with my Sorcerers and Brand would go with a Fury or something. If I get a Black Panther for my Illuminati display I might get a Storm too, but considering BP will be either posed with the Illuminati, I probably won't need her. Unless I cut down on some other wants by then and do a Kings & Queens display with Namor, Doom, T'Challa and Black Bolt. The problem is that T'Challa & Bolt have their Queens, but Doom and Namor don't, so that again doesn't work. Eh, we'll see.

For now my X-List includes just these ones. The question is what costumes they'll get. A full Morrison team would tempt me greatly. But someone like Emma has too many good costumes and I enjoy her as a character (no, I really do, not just for those reasons....) so I might want to get multiples (black NOW! look, White Queen, modern). Which will obviously create problems with all the other one-offs I want. I mean, do I want an expansive wardrobe X-Shelf, or do I want a more varied collection? Do I want a Ghost Rider and a Blade, or can I just expand the Bat-Shelf and hope Todd releases a good Spawn to represent my Gothic & Edgy phases? I'll see as I go along. It's a question of whether it's better to have multiple different things, or for example to have both a Cyke & Jean Family and a Rightclops display:

I think that is a problem that arises when multiple costumes and teams come into play. Do you like one thing so much to get multiples of the same basic character over an entirely new one? How many different shelves are you going to set up? Bigger characters like Apocalypse, or ones with add-ons like GR and his bike, up the price point too. I'm already building a Star Wars collection. Do I get two different Vaders or do I get one Vader and one other capecharacter I don't care for as much just to complete another new shelf? You can go by genres, but even then it's tough. I like Space Operas, so technically I'd be into the Fourth World too, but I made the decision to not get into Cosmic DC at all beyond GL and stick with Marvel. Likewise I might not get into Dark Marvel and just hope they release a good JonCon and Swamp Thing in some movie. Stuff like that. With the X-Men I know which ones still interest me, but they change costumes in every run and there's tons of combinations, so this could be a Wars-Tier moneysink as well. Ah, decisions...

I still think Trank could've given us a solid body horror F4-flick, but alas...

Yeah, the guy went overboard with the face lines, but he has trying to give him that ornate look. There's better designs out there:

I get what you mean about MK. I was never the biggest fan, but I was aware of it. I liked the "reboot" looks a lot and bought the PS3 MK as it also had a Kratos add-on. I didn't follow the series after that, but I wanted to get those WorldBox figures which are too expensive now. Funny thing, I watched a review of one and the pleather chipped off so easily that it makes you wonder how we drop so much cash on such fragile figures that we can't even move. Gets the brain questioning if you really hundreds of these things...

Simpler can be better and more memorable, yes. It's evident from the MCU that all the LINESLINESLINESLINES are detrimental to the look. But with someone like Doom, who's a Monarch, you need more pomp. Sometimes you need to go simple and lean, others update and streamline, and so on.

Wow, that's a perfect Dr Doom. That's one way to go, but he can have multiple outfits like Hitler. That one could be his "battle suit". That DR Doom would be my ideal movie version, but nothing on screen will look that good, unless they CGI him or something.

They can also make him look a bit more like Cobra Commander when he's not wearing the traditional DOOM armor. Something like this, but with his Doom mask and hoodie.

Giving him multiple looks would be an easy way to sell more toys too. And it makes sense. A more Dictator-like look for his daily goings. A more pompous look for the Royal things. A more battle-ready armoured look for his "adventures". I always championed that over him showing up in every Gala and UN Summit with the same garb he fights the F4 in. He's the leader of a nation and he's got style, he should be able to show off.

Now, in our line multiple looks can create challenges since they're an extra 300$ for the same characters we already own, but I guess you have to decide such things early on.

I don't buy HT anymore. The MCU costumes and characters don't interest me. I got their John Wick because I'm a fan. I'm getting the 3Zero Rambo figures, but that's about it from 1/6 right now. Oh, I am getting the "classic" Spidey suit from the video game HT figure.

I would buy a new Tobey from the new film tho, but that's it. No villains.

As for Doom, I'm only interested in his "classic" costume, even though I like the idea of him having lost of outfits.

I like my Mezco Dr Strange, but I would love a 1/6 version. I'm still waiting for the MCU version to get proper Sorcerer Supreme costume. We've talked about it already, so I won't bore you with the same complaints.

Huh. So you've completed your collection in that regard? You've gotten everything you were ever interested in? Did you have a pre-set list or something? I don't even know how many things I want. Which the more I think about the more silly it becomes, as I've already said. I mean, multiple Emma Frosts will literally look like I'm collecting Barbies...

My plan at the beginning was to get just one, two figures per franchise/corner. So an Xavier/Magneto for the X-Men. A Tobey-Man for nostalgia. A BaleMan and a Ledger for Batman. A Ghost Rider and a Punisher for my edge phase. Some one-offs here and there. I figued it'd be only SW that I'd dive deep into. Follow that with one Omni-run per character/franchise and that was it. But things have spiralled since then. One gives way to the other. I'm getting a Punisher for sure, but only when he gets a good look. I'm probably getting an MK too. But a GR would cost me 500 euros, minimum, not to mention all the pleather. And if I have them all, and an Elsa Bloodstone, then I need a Blade and the Hellstroms to complete the set. If I'm getting Reed, Strange and Namor at some point, then might as well get an Xavier, T'Challa and Black Bolt to built the Illuminati. You can see how it spirals from there.

I've said all these things before, but I'm just torn on how to go about it. I'm not made of money. And if you have tons of big displays, nothing stands out. But if you have half of a setup, you're tempted to get the rest. If I get a T-800, then I'll be compelled to get a Xeno and a Pred as well. But why? I'm not a huge fan of those franchises, however they are "classics".With this logic I need things like a Bond or whatever too.

Doom-wise I'll try to get them all. Everything else is literally up in the air. I may have escaped this rut by next year and end up getting just the ones I "need". One could argue that it's better to just grab a cool GR on his awesome bike to display next to the Punisher, rather than play Doll House with Cyclops' Harem. Decisions...

I think they will gender swap the entirety of the fantastic four and doom. We will have Rhea Richards, Jenny Storm, Belle Grimm and the invisible boy face of against Victoria Von Doomette. Some will of course be race bent to access maximum diversity representation points but Doomette will be white and will speak with an aristocratic british accent for no reason other than that makes a good bad guy voice (she will of course be from Sarkovia but will have worked to change her accent to fit in more with traditional bad guys). They will say that the team has been seen twice on film already and it is time for a bold new direction for worlds most loved family and it is time for the worlds smartest person to be a woman for a change.

I'd accept female Doom only if it's a mommy actress like Robin Wright, Rebecca Fergusson or mostly Eva Green.

Shame we never got her as Lady Loki...

I mean, I wouldn't like it, but I'd swallow it over African-American Balkan Dictator Doom.

But let's be honest, Doom's not being cast as anything else bar a smug Euro with an accent. I think Nikolaj has a big chance here with how they like to use GoT actors.

Screen-Shot-2019-08-20-at-1.03.15-AM-Cropped.png

Although I think he's too pretty. I want him as Warlock:

mcu-adam-warlock-nikolaj-coster-waldau-1172639-1280x0.jpeg

The F4 will all be swapped, but not Doom. They already are turning Altantis into Mayans or Aztecs, and Kang's a goofy black guy, I don't think they'll just swap it all. Doom's too much of a normie-friendly fan-favourite to play around with him. Smug EuroRoyal Techno-Sorcerer is simple and works. My preferred fancast at the moment is Bardem. He can do the off-his-rocker mania, scenery chomping and serious moments.

tumblr_inline_p6ygrrQpOw1r9iq8u_1280.png

As for the F4, I don't think they'll be as "bold" as they pretend. Reed will be White, Asian or a Latino like Pedro Pascal. The Storms will most probably remain White. The Thing could be Black, but I don't think they'll want to be accused of turning the actor into an unrecognizable monster. They'll keep the major reinventions and bendings to supporting characters. The X-Men will get hit with the diversity ray, no doubt.

God, how exhausting it must be to actually invest any emotion into these movies anymore.

I'm just interested in the dolly potential and how close it is to my funnybooks. I stopped caring about the actual continuity or whatever half a decade ago. I didn't mind Lady Loki for example, as long as she was close to the source, and what we got was wholy divorced from it, so no dolly for me. It seems that the more the MCU goes on the more nonsensical it becomes and the more it screws up. Which is ironic considering they began proud of sticking as close to the comics as they could.

I am no Jedi! -- errr -- comicfan.

Also, when you put it that way I need to go back in time and high-five 15-year old me.

Sometimes I wonder where I'd be if I was able to drop things. I don't regret getting into all these geek stuff, but I do feel guilty when I think about dropping 300$ on a plastic dolly about a C-List relic simply because I want to complete a set that I'm not overtly fond of and just hinges on one character. That's not the way a logical and balanced person behaves, you know? I think I'm due for more trimming...

The only character from the MCU I see myself getting in 1/6 scale is Tobey Spidey and maybe Wolverine if he's wearing a classic comic costume. I always wanted a Logan from the first two X Men films, but HT never made them.

As for Doom, I wonder what kind of powers he will have in the MCU, if he even has powers. The MCU has a tendency to nerf character, unfortunately. The MCU has both advanced technology as well as magic, so ideally Doom's suits and weapons should be high tech. He can even have the Doom bots since Iron Man already had something similar in his films.

Doom should also use magic, but not the same "magic" Dr. Strange uses, maybe a different kind from a different source. Then again, why use technology if you have magic or vice versa? Which is why I don't think he'll use magic in the MCU. He'll just be an upgraded Tony Stark.

So what kind of powers should he have in the MCU? Energy projection, maybe telekenisis? Generic magic energy stuff?

Because Magitech beats both. That's Doom's whole thing, he's a jack of all trades but master of none. Tech can hack computers but magic can hack reality. Both are useful if you can wield them. I think he'll start off as Evil EuroStark to fil that void, but also be revealed as a magic user to go against Strange since he's the quasi-Tony now that RDJ's gone. I can't really speculate on anything as the MCU's started following the Fox road of changing things up for no reason.

Figures-wise I'm trimming them down by the day. I can't say that I'm prioritising one over the other.

Sony F4 has Doom essentially being Electro. Man, that was awful.

I guess it makes some sense. Magic's too out there to add to a Sci-Fi movie, so they go with electrical powers and TK/TP. McMahon wasn't a bad Doom, he just needed more material. As for Trank, he had a meltdown on 4chan once and spilled some beans, and storyboards and the such have surfaced since the flop. And from what I saw I think he would've delivered a great body horror/Ultimate-esque Trilogy. But between studio meddling and him being a jerkass, we got what we got. Still, I remember reading a bit from an early draft where they go to some dead planet. They look around and it's all destroyed, grey, everything's dead and bodies are everywhere. They keep going and reach a massive amphitheatre of sorts. They start exploring as something slithers in the remains, and eventually the whole thing starts shaking and Galactus reveals himself. That's a pretty terrifying scene if done well. The problem is that it makes little sense for Galactus to just be hanging around a planet he got done consuming, so I'd change it a bit (I used to have a headcanon about my own AU that merged Galactus, Gah Lak Tus and the Celestials). But the point is a more serious, space horror-esque FF can work. Should it be that? Most people would dissagree.

Personally, I've always seen F4 as a pretty versatile property so I don't mind breaking away from the mold. It can work as corny, family-friendly space exploration, as a tale of mad science, as cosmic horror, whatever. I might be one of the few people on the planet who liked the Evangelion homage one-shot from the defunct Marvel Mangaverse:

Cmo_zLXKrNx6Ygc_NSn-919Wi_nef2VaJwLfW2nJIUKPyNEhZAlgDWc4YZzExWlzSmsjn3yz9N8Gc9rdHPOvrIZihGVHElS6orwZk8YpPNJ8Lawj1B77SSYQj6_14FaBQ7v4dw=s0

I think it's an IP with promise that could go in a bunch of different directions if you wanted to try more things with it. I think the same applies to the X-Men. And I've always thought Iron Man could be more than what he is. Most of the characters/books/franchises I still have an attachment to are ideas that I think are great but are not executed properly, and have given new life to them in my head. So I sort of project my own wishes on them, and the figures I want represent not only the source material, but my own idealisation of it.
