We're working on that.

What was it they say about change? It's good... right? :lol

Sadly, your points about an adverse environment to true creativity are well taken. But the pendulum does swing back. This too shall pass. Another decade of this kind of nonsense and a huge renaissance will occur. It has to.

I'm already struggling to find any enthusiasm for an industry I once absolutely loved... even if you're right, a decade is still a hell's lifetime away of suffering through this slew of endless sludge. :(

It boggles the mind to think that after Solo and TROS underperformed that Disney took a step back and said "whoa, we need to rethink theatrical Star Wars" only to fast forward to 2023, which turns out to be one of the most disastrous years in over a decade for Disney, one in which their priorities and methods are mercilessly mocked to universal amusement by South Park, and they settle on "Okay, let's just continue with the girl in the underperforming TROS and do EXACTLY what South Park mocked us for and that all of our other movies are bombing because of."

I feel like we're watching them publicly destroy themselves in real time. Truly fascinating.
I have reached a place of total apathy. I've already sold off a good amount of SW merch I don't want and have a very, few pieces that remind me of my childhood, one that is actually a framed "New Hope" SW pillow case from my childhood bed, but little else. Even Mando was tanked in my eyes. What more can they do? What will it matter? I don't want to complain about it anymore. I don't want to know. We just got back from WDW and Galaxy's Edge is just some brown place with fake spaceships. Total and complete 'meh vibes abound.

Yep, I'm totally there. I hope its not a decade's wait, but who knows. I think we all know the "next big thing" will likely be movies (in whatever format they become) based on video games. Like comic books before them, they are the guaranteed future for several generations immersed with them. They won't just be for "kids" for very much longer. They need to find their 'adult term' though, like comics found 'graphic novels'.

Videogames? Looks like I'll be sitting the next craze out like I have with comic book movies.

I knew the basics for comic books but I don't know the entire world. For video games, I'm lost entirely. I have a very modest memory of games up to about 2003 and after I've learned/experienced nothing.

But they won't be making those 'movies' for us... our generations/importance is on the way out.

Speaking of video games, I just spent the last couple weeks watching my son complete the entire story mode of the new PS5 Spider-Man 2 game. Holy crap it blew me away. Absolutely amazing visuals with characters that looked and behaved much more like their comic book counterparts than we normally seen in films. I'm guessing that as the years press on (assuming we aren't nuked, lose the power grid, etc.) movies and films will continue to bleed into each other. I wonder what the end result will ultimately be?

World building and video games are laying the ground-work for a virtual experience of "living a movie" for the immersive viewer. I suppose if they can ever get something like the "metaverse" up and working, then 'Westworld' will be a place you visit via headset rather than an actual physical place.

Casinos and sex palaces will be the first virtual experiences people clamor for, but someone, someday will make an entire world that you can play in... and that will be the biggest thing since Disneyland. Not sure if it will be a Westworld type of thing (very simple) or a GTA type thing (complex) but it will have storylines that you can become part of -- assignments and missions -- that you live through, not just operate a 3D figure on your screen by battering your thumbs. We get closer to this all the time... but yet its still removed from the feeling of genuine experience. But "Total Recall" is coming. Maybe AI will help speed that all up so we don't have to wait another decade or more for it to trickle down from the elite.

Yep, the only time I talk about something idiotic in modern entertainment is if its amusing in some way. I too am done putting any energy into getting angry or frustrated.

I'm totally content with my backlog of classic films (with a select few that are even recent classics like Maverick) and enjoying an occasional gem here and there like Godzilla Minus Zero.

I think the widespread apathy that we're seeing was the worst thing that studios like Disney and others could have allowed to happen. I know a lot of people bailed on SW back at TLJ but there were still plenty of us that focused on the positive of the "mixed bag" films and shows that LFL was releasing but I think that time has come to an end. I don't plan on watching the new Rey movie and I really do think it will be their "Marvels/The Flash."

Especially if it enables hilarious movie references here on the forum :yess:

I'd add Blade Runner 2049. I watched that again recently.

Nothing kills a venue/medium like... meh.
Yep. Many in LFL seemed to openly and publicly take glee in half the fandom getting angry and arrogantly thought they could "monetize the haters" indefinitely. How stupid for them to think that that would be a sustainable business model.

The bizarre thing - The Last of Us (Part 1), is as much a movie as a video game, and they completely destroyed everything that made the game great in the TV show. That game was a defining moment and is still revered as one of the greatest of all time 11 years after it was released. Nobody is talking about, or gives a ****, about the TV show anymore, less than a year after it's release.

Again, this insidious mindset has been too worried about ticking boxes than being respectful to the source material. As long as the people who can green light these things are more concerned about not getting cancelled and "doing the right thing," we'll continue to have a bottomless pit of bland content.

This. It used to be about making money -- which was bad enough, ushering in the "lowest common denominator" era -- but this new era is even worse. They really don't care about the money; now the new Hollywood elite care about the message. It's not even a message -- because a message implies that there is some moral or information idea that is passed along. No, it's much more about societal terraforming. I'll stop there because this clearly is headed into trainwreck territory... but when you continue to lose money this consistently, and yet continue to preach the same ideas that got you in trouble in the first place, then it is clear you are on a Crusade.

Good thing Marcia Lucas didn’t shape ANH 46 years ago.

Believe me i’m absolutely not triggered by her statement from eight years ago about making men uncomfortable because she was specifically talking about Sharia law men and not anything to do with Star Wars i’m a smart person who possesses the skill of nuance thought BUT….

How about letting your work speak for your leadership role instead of making promises your skills might not be able to keep.

I would regularly watch Marvel and Star Wars shows with the kids (13 & 15 years old) earlier on. We had a good time with Mando and enjoyed most of the earlier Marvel shows, but then the quality really dropped and we stopped the “must watch on release day” routine. We’ve totally stepped away from anything coming out from Disney now. The kids are sourcing more independent releases like stuff from Glitch studios and we’re making our way through the backlog of classics which I’m really loving. We are much more picky with cinema releases too.
I was also wondering how YouTube channels like Honest Trailers and Pitch Meeting have affected peoples viewing habits, with a lot of comments like “glad I just watched the Honest Trailer instead of the movie”. I think they have really been able to lock in on the type of cynical film making/ content manufacturing these studios have been guilty of.

Lucasfilm wakeup, it's over ... you lost. Even Khev and Jye, the TROS Defenders, are not into this Rey movie. You have no audience for this product.

Watching people's end of year collection videos and it's quite telling how much the ST is maligned within the fan base. You have happy excited collector talking about their star wars figures (OT, PT and Mando) and then they get to their sequel figures and their whole demeanour changes and they gloss over them as quickly as possible. Either with some half baked excuses like 'well, you have to have them' quickly followed by 'they are not my favourites' and sometimes with honesty ' i was caught up in the hype but they havent really held their value' (code for i cant give them away). Occasionally some say I have them but I pretend they are from the Star Wars expanded universe or their own head Canon. Han, Luke and Leia nearly always grouped together despite never appearing like that on screen.

These are the fans with the money to spend on high end collectibles and they aren't into this version of Star Wars. Their goodwill has been used up by the ST and I doubt they will be prepared to drop money on activist driven Rey solo movie.

There is a hype vacuum surrounding this product and it is only the noise around it that is garnering any attention.
