The mcfarlane, neater? Lul. The entire thing is monochrome brown, with the crown having an inner red swirl and outer black swirl, with three random dots in the middle. The ridges have some pretty bad drybrushing too.
All that, combined with the fact that the sculpt doesn't even look like p2.... Neca >

You judge it now. Judge it then.

This thing was AMAZING back in the day too.

And the McF still had better paint apps.

Have to disagree, the paint on the forehead on the McFarlane is better. NECAs looks painted by a child by comparison - however NECAs still trumps the overall figure by a long shot.

Actually no. That was never amazing.
As big a fan as I have always been of Alien, I never felt compelled to buy any figure until I saw Tankman's original prototype for McF.
Although I was disappointed with the final production figure, I still bought it. That was my first ever Alien (and McF) figure.

It was amazing.
When I was little with my Kenner figs, that one was always the "accurate" Alien figure to me. I always looked at the others as if they were from a comic.

Never understood why that early toy line took the direction it did. If they and delivered a more faithful representation of the characters that line could have been amazing. Instead they seemed to take a bubblegum approach to the line.
If they had followed the Star Wars model the early 90's line would have been epic instead of laughable.
Jurassic Park & Star Ship Troopers sort of did the same thing.

It'd be cool if they made realistic versions of them.. The Boar Alien was always my favorite followed by Cobra.

Oh damn, I would love a realistic version of that spiked-tail Predator one.

Lol. I know they were for kids. I was a kid, but at the end of the day they are all characters that only appeared in R rated films and comics that were intended for more mature readers. They should never have been marketed to 6 year olds.
Kinda pointless to argue about it 20 years later though :)
Sorry my bad

But that's what made it good! Back then, things were not as crazy. Because kids didn't even need to know where the toy came from. It's a monster. It fights the heroes.

That's why the 80's -90's were awesome. Today's toys suck. Kinda. I mean, is an Alien really that much worse then a burnt up legless Anakin Skywalker action figure? :lol

They were for kids. :lol

Some people say that about McFarlane and NECA.

:lecture I always thought that was a bit odd making figures for kids based on films those same kids shouldn't even have been allowed see. If I ever have a daughter I'm going to see if I can buy her a Sasha Grey doll instead of Barbie. I'm sure theres a kids market for dolls of porn stars! They dress them real pretty in those films :dunno

Well...I can see the porn star being a good lover for the hero:lol....but monsters are always cool. That's why they made them for kids.

Wish they still did that.

Sorry I will try to limit this to one more post but I just have such a strong memory of that toy line. When I first heard that there was a toy line based off of aliens I was so excited I nearly $#it through my %ick. My imagination pictured the marines like the 4 inch gi joe line and the Queen as a boxed figure like the first Rancor. Maybe there would be vehicles like the star wars/ gi joe line as well and pictured the troop transport vehicle, the drop ship and powerloader. I was stoked! I walked into the local KB Toys and it was such a WTF moment that 20 years later I can't let it go.
It is relevant to note that what I pictured for the standard figs is almost exactly what Hot Toys released as their snap kit line. If memory serves those were released early on in HT history and would love to see that line revisited. I think it would receive a much warmer reception now that HT has become the juggernaut that it is.

This figure kicks ____ing ass, i'm buying this whole series.

Also picked up Neca Dream Warriors Freddy Kruger, awesome figure.

God, that face paint does look really bad.

Everything else is nice though.

The eyes look very detailed surprisingly..

The finish on the armour is bloody awesome, the plasma caster turns around and slides down his back, articulation is great..very cool figure.

Only warning i have to people who intend on picking this up, be careful with the rubber strings going around the waist area, they look easy to snap.
