I think she looks pretty good from a sculpt/detailing point of view. Still not entirely convinced on the uniform colour and still not entirely sure why they went with dark brown for her hair when she never had that colour during seasons 1-3 when she was wearing that particular uniform.

It’s like some weird merging of season 7 face, late season 5 hair, and season 1-3 uniform.
Nanjin went with literal gold for sevens hair...

Man I'm not quite sure what to make of this figure in hand. The sculpt works rather well with the light hitting it straight on, but any kind of overhead lighting suddenly makes her face look old and droopy. The body proportions are fantastic but she also dwarfs every other female figure and stands too tall next to Sisko (when the top of her head barely reached his nose on screen). She's wearing the S1-3 uniform but the deeper reddish pink seems more consistent with later seasons. And the outfit is beautifully tailored except for the arms which are baggy and unflattering on her.

Ultimately I'd say this works well enough as a representation of Kira in the collection... but as a massive DS9 fan it also doesn't do her near enough justice in my view. And it's sadly going to have to be more of a background figure in my display.

I have to say that part of the reason people are raving about this figure is undoubtedly because expectations were so low based mainly on the true to form bad to questionable promo photos, but also on the lackluster photos from Michael Crawford’s early review. As just about always, we’re generally hopeful but unconvinced that any EXO figure we get will look at least marginally better in hand. So when this one looked head and shoulders better than the impression all those prerelease photos gave us we we fairly elated (at least speaking for myself)

Speaking of head and shoulders, yeah she comes off considerably too tall next to Sisko. I guess I passed that off because of those easily four inch scaled season one boots heels. I don’t think she wore those in all six seasons, but considering how tall Brooks is compared to Visitor, I was still quite surprised by the height similarity.

Also you nailed it regarding the lighting. The rule of thumb in figure photography is to light from above and slightly forward to bring out the sculpt details with a very low intensity light from in front and below to throw some light in the eyes. But if you follow those directions for Kira, you darken up her face by throwing it into shadow and accentuate the subtle but present eye to cheek and mouth wrinkles that we feared from many of the promo photos. I think Michael Crawford fell into this trap as well. For me, Kira looks her absolute best in natural day/house light as opposed to any intentional light box lamp fare. So far every shot I’ve taken of her has been in the car leaning against the steering wheel, or just sitting on my living room side table facing a large window. That all direction engulfing light seems to complement her best, and also explains why so many more “standard” figure photography shots don’t seem to do her justice.

All that said, I’m still SUPER happy with this release! Lit properly, it’s Nana through and through. But while it looks marginally better in person, there’s still no excuse for the crazy uniform color choice. The figure’s positive features outweigh this, in my opinion, but had they nailed this aspect as well, she would have had just about no peer in terms of EXO female figures.

Tried my best to take some good pics of this figure, although it did require blasting a light up in her face to hide the age lines, which isn't ideal. Lol. I'm also starting to notice that her nose is a little too bulbous and the shape of her lips is weird. Which just makes it seem even more like a caricature of Kira to me.

But oh well, it's the only 1/6 Kira we'll ever get so I'll just have to learn to live with it.

What did you do to get that height difference between Kira and Sisko? Which body are you using for him? Chakotay, custom?

Is the belt removable? Like if I want to remove the holster w/o destroying it or the belt?

It looks as if it would be based on how this feature normally works on 1/6 figures and because there is a definite overlap in the front which could be secured with a tab of some sort BUT IT ISN’T! I just broke mine in the attempt to see. But no worries, looks like they used a dab of hot glue to keep the belt secured. Should not be a difficult fix.

I assume this will be featured in the EXO video instructions they use to save costs…..eventually. But take this word of caution.

Another odd choice by EXO. Making that belt removable would have taken nothing but an extra thought and a microsecond’s worth of engineering to give us the optionality of posing her without the large holster, which she FOR SURE didn’t have with her all of the time.

Oh well….

Nice pictures davejames, you’ve captured the best of Kira.

@DParga21 - How was the Star Trek cruise?
It was fantastic. Had a wonderful time. Got complimented on my beard by Sonequa Martin, discussed the joys of strawberry Dr. Pepper with Garrett Wang, talked D&D with Todd Stashwick, and in general just had a wonderful time. I also got a crapload of compliments for my costume during the Q's Costume Party, which was "Jay and Silent Bob Join Starfleet". Now my wife's already planning what we're going to do for next year's cruise.

Yeah that does seem odd, considering she rarely walked around with her phaser on her. But then it IS a cool look and the only one I'd probably want to use anyway.

Unlike, say, the phaser belt on Seven which just looks very weird on her.

Thanks for looking. Sorry about that. Didnt mean to cause you to break the belt :(

It’s ok. Like I said, easy fix. Hard to understand why they wouldn’t add that simple feature. And with the belt design looking so much like it would be removable with its separation and what looks very much like a connecting pin, there really should have been SOMETHING on or in the packaging to warn us against trying.

But now we know.

Nanjin can't be wrong! He gets all his information from top men, not those "experts" on the forums. I think you all need to shine 7 lights at the uniform, then its true color will come out.
Its also funny how after all this time Sean dabbs still can't sculpt a female. He screwed me on summer glau many years back, his seven is barely passable especially that gold spaghetti hair he shaped into a turban on her head, and now kira with these over excentuated wrinkles, honker and Sean's classic fish lips, hes managed to get me to not want to buy my favorite character in all of star trek.

It's wild to me that they let the guy who sculpted Janeway do yet another female Trek character. In fact, my hot take is that I think Janeway is quite possibly the worst 1/6 sculpt I've ever seen in hand in 8 years of collecting. It reminds me of an episode of Married with Children, where Kelly realizes that every time she learns something new, she forgets something else really simple, like how to work a microwave, because there's just only so much room in her brain. So every time we get a clear A/A+ sculpt like Locutus or Admiral Kirk we have to make up for it with a number of C/D level sculpts on other figures because it seems like they just don't have the capacity/time to give each figure the same amount of love and attention.

EXO-6 stuff is really unique, in my opinion, in that the vast majority of complaints and criticism comes from people who are actually invested in the line and buying the figures. There's so much other stuff being made where a lot of the complaints come from those who don't own the piece and/or have no intention of purchasing it. It just seems so weird that you would purposefully ignore and alienate the people who are putting their money where their mouths are and actually purchasing your products.

I'll probably pick Kira up even though I think it looks like the most 6/10 figure that could ever be a 6/10 figure. But I want the DS9 line and it's clear you are going to pay in the aftermarket if you skip on any of characters that get made. It's the Blitzway Winston Zeddemore effect, where everyone agreed that was the weakest looking figure and also least essential character of the set, but he quickly became impossible to find in the aftermarket for anything but a king's ransom.

The holster on mine has created a dent and mark/scratch on the belt, so even if I broke the belt open and re-glued it it's still not gonna look quite right. Whose stupid idea was it to do it this way?

In positive news, I'm quite happy with the finished version of the earring.
