Re: The Batman film directed by Matt Reeves...again

Nope, art in all current forms is dead, or close to it.

There's just too much stuff and we keep recycling... Even the good/great stories are pre-recycled mish-mash of stuff that's already been done before and labeled as "influences".

I doubt anything can even be universally memorable again outside its own niche, and even there it's saturated.

That's the price of having so much to choose from. We all get what we want which is great but there's no one thing for the world to collectively embrace or take ownership of anymore.

Re: The Batman film directed by Matt Reeves...again

I think if they adapt the red hood it would surpass the dark knight. That's right I said it. The story is already set up and all they need to do is change around that dumbass joker into something more menacing and do the story right. I mean the red hood is a great story. It's already set up perfectly in this universe, the whole angry vengeful batman.

nah i disagree. there are plenty of memorable films and scenes. TDK Trilogy has a ton. The new Star Wars have all had a lot. And Fury Road is one of the most creative films in the past 40 years IMO from costumes, to sets, to stunts. Even a few quotes from it became pop culture.

Maybe the Marvel films aren't as much mainly because they have become this endless continuous story with TV trying to tie to it, and there are so many characters across all the films and TV.

But even Suicide Squad, although i know a lot didnt like it, Harley & Joker have become icons, even if you don't like them. They are different and creative. You might not like it, but they are pop culture icons. And if you didn't like them, thats fine.

movie directors like Chris Nolan and Alejandro González Iñárritu always put out highly creative films for Hollywood movies. And there is a ton more than just those two.

Art isn't dead. And throughout art history thing have been recycled over and over. For example Dali wasn't the first to do Surrealism. He was influenced by others doing it. And artists being inspired by other artists goes back hundreds and thousands of years.

Star Wars is Kurosawa.

Art is very much alive. More art is being created now than in history. I'm a graphic designer so i study a lot of different types of art. There is some amazing stuff going on in all mediums. Digital, to film, to print.

The only thing i feel is different is people's patients. They either move on so quickly to the next thing or they can't sit and wait for something. Its like everyday someone is trying to reveal spoilers to every single movie in production. I see like 50 of them every day just for Star Wars alone through all my Social Media. I try to ignore them all because i dont want to know. I rather go see a film and be surprised by the story. Spoilers to me ruin a movie experience.

And being a graphic designer even the way our work is produced has changed. Clients expect things faster and cheaper. Its like if you don't respond to an email within 10 minutes they think your ignoring them.

Anyway. Art isn't dead. Far from it. If anything its bigger and everywhere.

Great post. I agree 100%. Art is not dead and will never die.

Re: The Batman film by Some Guy Who Will Quit in a Week (2019)

I heard they're bringing all the characters back to normal

That's what I heard as well, through BleedingCool, mostly. They've been on point in the past, and Marvel relaunches every October anyway, so I'm inclined to believe it's real. The X-Men are getting a somewhat bigger, push once again, and from the Secret Empire solicits, Tony looks to be back.

I hope so, I want muh Thor back. I also want the annoying SJW to stop pretending they read comics.

They'll never stop, not really. I've come across folks on Tumblr wanting Doom to be plained by a Spanish Flamengo Dancer, because he's brown/tanned, and has a Roma background. It's just... ugh. I do hope it'll go away some day, but I don't think so.

Pics or it didn't happen.

Rule 34 preferably.

Well, there's nothing explicit yet, but...

Spoiler Spoiler:

Man, it's just not fair. 616!Reed is now THE God of the Marvel U, and Ult!Reed is getting it on with his mum. Meanwhile Doom is back on Earth trying to be a hero, and (unsuccesfully) hitting on a bioteach scientist, while a 9 year old has been confirmed as "da smartest person evah". It's just... sad...

Spoiler Spoiler:

Wow, no wonder Doom will never be as super keeeeewl and awesome as the Joker. :wave

Spoiler Spoiler:

Art isn't dead.

I didn't say it was. I said that there's so much of it that very little if any of it has the opportunity to leave cultural footprints anymore. You're kidding yourself if you think that Fury Road will be as easily referenced in 20 years as Superman the Movie was in the 90's. Hell Fury Road isn't even in the public consciousness *now.*

ill disagree leave it at that since i stated my reasons why. 'art is dead' i was referring to the discussion.i replied to you but i meant it as a reply to the discussion, and the post before you said it was.

we dont all have to agree. i think fury road is still on the radar of many people. has a big following all over the world. it may not be the #1 thing right now as certain world events have taken over everything, but its still popular and will be for a long time. people will look up to it, other movies will be inspired by it.

I much prefer oversaturation over few choices to be honest.

Right now some people are tired of superhero movies but some years in the future we will look back and have so much to pick from. I like that.

Re: The Batman film directed by Matt Reeves...again

I'm getting tired of seeing actors complain about parts and films they're hired for. It's your ****ing job. Man up and do it. You get paid obscene amounts of one for a few months work.

Re: The Batman film directed by Matt Reeves...again

Was that really jye?
I thought gaspar found it somewhere else lol

Really? I went all the way back to pg 140, but I didn't find the OP. Shame, I thought someone from here had made it big! :lol

That's a challenging question. But it's hard to put yourself in the shoes of a kid who is growing up in this environment, where you can get just about anything you wish for on a whim. When we were kids, toys came to the store, and were gone, seemingly forever unless you chanced upon a great garage sale. TV shows came on, and unless you taped them or had them in syndication, they were then gone. Now, eBay, Youtube/digital downloads, 50,000 super hero movies every year make everything a bit less special.

I think Khev is right. Everything today has a short lifespan in our collective culture.

Yup, all we had was the back of the GIJoe card.....

And if you didn't tape it on VHS, it could be months or years before it was reaired

Re: The Batman film directed by Matt Reeves...again

Cardbacks were sometimes better than the actual figure you got. It was like it's own little wishlists.

I loved those Hasbro and Kenner catalog booklets that came with vehicles and playsets.

Re: The Batman film directed by Matt Reeves...again

But back then you only had a good 2-3 hours of tv and you were s. Out of luck if u were free and wanted to watch something on at a bad tv time.

You rented 3-4 movies for the weekend and you were screwed if they sucked lol.

But im glad i grew up in the 90s because it makes me appreciate how much we have. ( but it still sucked lol)

Kids definitely grow up spoiled and cant appreciate what they have but thats not entertainment's or the studio's fault.

The 90s limited entertainment created terrible boredom.
Todays over saturation creates spoiled hard to satisfy minds.
