Re: Hot Toys - TMSXXX - Star Wars The Mandalorian - Artillery Stormtrooper

Well, Lucas made his fortune partly due to toys and merchandise, so it is a cash cow that never runs dry that a lot of people have blessed him for since 1977.

Since 1983 I've thought of Star Wars films as glorified adverts for toys. Really good adverts, mind you, because they worked!

It was really brought home to me as a child, standing in the dedicated Star Wars section of Debenhams the department store. The racks were massed with a huge variety of Kenner figures and vehicles, and a television placed high up was playing scenes from Return of the Jedi on continual repeat.

So, every new character design, or every little variation with a Stormtrooper was a potential for merchandise.

The business model is well on display in super hero movies, where a character's costume will change between films, sometimes just subtle enough to justify a new piece of merchandise.

And so they get us with the media, and with the toys. But only if the designs are appealing.

Hello darkness my old friend

Backpack is nice. Colours and weathering- not so nice. It’s a pass for me and an easy one. I almost got the incinerator trooper but didn’t have a natural space for it. Just starting to feel like these are really lazy. But spaces me some pennies for all the other sh#t I have on order

"Bring me Solo and the Wookiee!!"

Re: Hot Toys - TMSXXX - Star Wars The Mandalorian - Artillery Stormtrooper

Having Bespin Han go up for pre-order today on 'Empire Day' would have been perfect. But no, a repaint of the worst looking Stormtrooper.

They are working hard on Bespin Han to reveal on ESB60th.

$220 at Sideshow, like the commander.

This and my Incinerator Trooper will look so good together. I will order this as soon as I clear off some of my flex pay figures.

Wow, lando going up for preorder was a long time ago. Same for the last cw figures. Mandalorian figures are on a cal Ripken like streak.

I'm getting the feeling Hot Toys will get the message on this one. No more coloured troopers.

Yeah because the incinerator trooper sold out at Sideshow and bbts. This will too. So yeah that will show em

Its funny that you think them reissuing a figure is them being greedy, but them slapping some coloured lines on a trooper and selling it is totally fine.

The only thing cool to this is the backpack. Apparently, as seen in the photos, you can throw the 2 types of thermal detonators with ease. So I guess the mortar is just for long distance.... :lol

I thought the flame trooper in TFA was dumb. Same with the Mando Incinerator Trooper and this guy. All their advanced tech and they come out with Troopers using WWI weapons. :dunno

I like the idea of different specialized troopers... But these 2 are unnecessary. At least they could've made the weapons (the flamethrower and the mortar itself) look more Scifi-ish and high tech.

But I'm sure they will look good in peoples displays that collect all the troopers. So I am looking forward to seeing some cool photos. :)

In fact blaster bolts seem to be slower than many bullets. So, regarding trooper combat, SW universe seem to be behind current earth technology.

Amazing that people have numerous colors of troops in their collection, but don't have a Han or Chewie that is a central character to a trilogy of movies. Never thought I'd own a Heavy Mando before a Han or Chewie. Guess HT likes the long game...

I can understand the flamethrower. Aside from its wartime use in clearing bunkers, it's also a weapon of terror. The threat of its use might be enough to encourage quick surrender.

German flammenwerfer operators didn't expect to be treated well by the Russians if it was known what their speciality was!

However, the mortar seems a step too far. I looked on Wookieepedia to see if there was any detail about their in-universe function, but there's nothing beyond relating that they're an indirect fire weapon. As such it's indiscriminate and wasteful until the target has been calculated from the initial misses. In a universe of intelligent machines a target-seeking missile would seem to be more appropriate.

Star Wars isn't a logical scientific universe though, but a fantastical one of contradiction.

People who have a lot of troops probably have a Han and Chewie.
