or will it be revived?

Why We Need More Space Adventures

"The fall 2011 season is the first time there's been no TV show, on any network, featuring people on spaceships, since probably the mid-1980s."

"What's happened to us? We haven't just lost our space shuttle program, we've lost our zest for space adventure altogether, at least in TV and movies. How can we get our love for space opera back? "

What will it take for us to get our love for the space opera genre back? During the last decade LOTR and Harry Potter helped make fantasy more popular. What will be the space opera equivalent of those that will do for space opera what LOTR and Harry Potter did for fantasy?

A good space opera.

For Joss Whedon get his head out of ass and get stupid SyFy back to old SciFi so we can have a new Firefly. I'd gladly watch Mal, Jayne, Zoe, Kaleigh, etc come back against the Alliance... too much story just left behind... and poor ****ing Wash... RIP still.

These things are cyclical. Westerns, space sci-fi, action/ adventure, comic book. Somebody makes a bunch of money in a new genre ... then studios beat it to death until it's so cliched and people are so sick of it that they've squeezed every possible nickel out of it. Then it dies until people aren't sick of it anymore -- until somebody thinks of a new way, or a new generation comes around that isn't sick of it. That's why westerns are seeing a bit of a resurgence.

Space sci-fi will come back about ten seconds after somebody makes a bunch of money with a non-Star Wars/ non-Star Trek space movie or show.

Why is OP starting a thread with a 4 year old blog post like it's today's news?

32 days from now there's a new Star Wars movie. Is the genre dying? pff. Whatever.
