Id be down for a testing Tony Stark more than an Ironmonger on the grounds that he d be easier to display but he d look superb as an evolutionary stage displayed with the other figures.

Perhaps this was part of the Dlx IM that was scraped and transformed into battle damaged IM? Similar to Dlx Joker you could create two individual figures. "Test" Tony and Battle Damaged Ironman.

It is Mark 2 trial phase, and he does wear gloves.

The gear in those photos is based on his successful hover test before he has Jarvis suit him up for his test flight, he has gloves on for that.
