Actually that means you disagree with the entire post because you think I implied you are automatically psycho if you play this, I didn't mean that. But when we do something its because our brains tells us to do so, its obviously not brainless... it never is. Like it or not, disagree or not.. everything we do reveals what we have in our minds

As for someone not agreeing with my analogy above, my point is you are watching murder for entertainment/pleasure when you're watching horror, slasher films, etc. The majority of people killed in slasher films are innocent people, e.g. the baby sitter, etc.

You forgot something essential, fear. There is no fear to be felt in this game. But horror movies makes us feel fear.

We ofter feel guilty for being interested in these type of things, they are umpleasant, but yet we can't look away... why? there are many reasons... strenght, catharsis, reality, exploration, acceptance, and meaning. Ultimately we like disturbing things because we like to S.C.R.E.A.M.

We are curious even if the outcome could be bad. There is neurological basis for exploring in the face of danger, we become more attentive and alert when we are frightened, wich makes sense. Neurotransmitters like norepinephire and dopamine are released when we are scared physically and mentally preparing us to take on a treat or successfully escape from it. Dopamine is part of the brains reward system, its released in respose to pleasurable things like sex and food, but that doesn't mean our brains find disturbing things pleasurable, its more intresting than that, when dopamine systems are inhibited in laboratory animals they will cease to seek out food and literally starve to death... because they no longer find food fun?.. no. If food is placed in their mouths they will consume it and express signs of satisfaction. Evidence like this suggests that the brain contains systems that motivate seeking, approaching and curiosity for their own sake. This has implications in the study of compulsive behaviors just because you wanted to do something doesn't mean you like it. The rush of chemicals into our brains and bodies when we are scared help us. When the threats are real. But if the threats aren't real, the same chemicals still appear making us more attentive, more curious and making it more difficult to look away.

But disturbing/scary things can also make us feel stronger because their repulsiveness is a challenge. Glenn Sparks at Purdue University has studied the way terrifying films affect us, after watching them viewers ofter feel stronger, satisfied that they didn't chicken out, that they made in through, they conquered something scary and were able to handle it.
As Stephen King puts it, "we make up horrors to help us cope with real ones"

So, this game and horror movies are not alike, there is killing in both but thats were similarities end

From your link - APOLOGY: An earlier version of this post mistakenly referred to the Żołnierze wyklęci (Cursed soldiers) as a neo-Nazi group. We have since learned more about the Cursed soldiers and amended the post. We offer sincere apologies to anyone we may have offended by this comparison.

Also, if you don't like it, don't play it or give it another thought.

Oh cool, so one out of the many groups mentioned in the article aren't connected Neo Nazis / racists. That's totally fine then.

As someone who is desensitised to violence and shocking imagery, this trailer made me feel disgusted. It's not right at all.

What a load of ****. Pointless violence which paints video games and gamers in that stereotypical bad light.

What. The. ****.

I don't know. I don't agree at all with the Politicians saying that media causes nutjobs, but I think that, in a weird way, the **** like this can serve as an enabler. If a whackadoo plays this, maybe he might think "hey, somebody out there had to think this up. That means there are other people who have these thoughts. Maybe, they're acceptable." Just like that, a thought can turn to action. I don't know. It's just too real. As a game, though, this just seems cheap and trusty; like the whole reason for it is to cause a stir using a very real and very tragic subject. Maybe it's the media's fault for constantly pointing the finger at video games, but video games and mass murder of this sort just don't mix. I guess you could call it a taboo, but, I don't know; even if a game dealt with the subject in an earnest and powerful way, it would still seem "off."

There's just too much of this **** out there. I play video games and watch movies as a form of escapism (most of the time). I don't want that garbage to invade it.

I thought maybe everyone here was overreacting when I read the comments, and then finally I watched the video. What sort of filth is this game? :slap. Hell, this isn't even a game, it's like gore porn for the disturbed ****s that lurk in the shadows of society. I hope this awful thing never gets released.

I disagree with that point. People play games to have fun, escape, and just to do something, mostly, brainless. If someone plays Hatred it doesn't make them a sicko, psycho, or someone who gets off on murder. Some of us know the difference between real life and a game. Some others like to force their own, overly-generalized, personal perspectives, and morals, on others. Just because someone doesn't play this game, doesn't mean they are morally correct/superior, or a better person. It just means they chose not to play it.

I guess if we were all 100% alike, the same, then we could apply all of these generalizations, but we're all different.

If you've played GTA then you have killed a lot of innocent people in a game, although not to the extent in Hatred, but there's no such thing as a "little" murder. I'm not lobbying for this game. I just see so much selective outrage from people, not just here, who participate in enjoying "murder" in other forms of entertainment.

that's bull----

when you watch a horror movie you do not become Michael Myers or Norman Bates or even Buffalo Bill... you are watching them, you are nothing but an spectator

in games you become that character, you become the director of the "movie" you become the puppet master. so yeah....not the same AT ALL

I do think video games can make some weirdo snap and become violent, but he had to be a weirdo first, it is the same way metal makes douchey guys get into fights at concerts, obviously metal and games dont create douchey guys, but they do make the guys that are already like that get violent.

never has this quote been more accurate:lol:lol

Jason, Freddy, Leatherface or any other killer of innocents, which is what this game is about. Do the same people outraged, watch slasher films, which have lots of fun with new, and creative ways to murder people? Seems completely hypocritical to me.

Slasher movies are tongue in cheek when the antagonist is an over-the-top, blatantly fictionalized beings like Freddy and Jason. There's a sense of disassociation with the reality of those movies which makes you comfortable to sink in the gruesome violence. This on the other hand, seems tasteless and caters to kids who like the sensational or worse yet, actual disturbed individuals.

It's obvious that the makers of this game are just trying to garner controversy and make a quick buck, by selling violence for the sake of just that without any creative flair or substance. It's games like this that gives the industry a bad name. I read on Gamefaqs that some of the users are supporting it because it's awesome, because it's "daring".

It's not daring. It's being the lowest common denominator of game design.

bingo, this is a small company needing the publicity

from a game play and graphical standpoint it looks solid but there is no way I could ever commend them on the subject matter and I think they need to change the story and the whole idea behind what drives the main character.

do you know what made Halloween so big? the first few minutes you were forced to see through michael myers eyes killing his family member. you were more than just a spectator... and that was so shocking back in the days cause it was one of the first movies that used a handycam to create that effect. and why did he kill his family? for no reason...

although in the sequels they tried to give it a reason

Manhunt... State of Emergency...

Neither feature you killing innocent civilians begging for their lives.

Manhunt was banned and SoE?

The game was denounced by Washington state politicians for its similarity to the real-life 1999 World Trade Organization riots and protests in Seattle which caused $3 million in damages. The game features the fictional "American Trade Organization" as the antagonistic establishment.

This is the type of game that will ruin the industry for everyone. Are you aware that some countries don't allow any blood at all in their games? I don't want a future where Call of Duty has no blood and no Nazi flags because of censorship and it absolutely will happen because of trash like this.

All it will take is one school shooting where the kid owned a copy of this. Do you know how hard they tried to blame Columbine on Doom and The Matrix and the impact that had on those respective titles? The first Matrix all but flopped as a result. Trench coats were banned in schools all over the country.

you're panicking for no reason

did you read my first post? in carmagedon the game got banned in some countrys cause you were able to drive over people. as far i can tell you can still do that in todays games :)

isn't america at the top of mass murder? what difference will this game make? if it isnt this game it'll be gta or w/e

Well some people just don't get it.

Luckily, the people with voice and power do :

Polygon's Colin Campbell wrote that they responded to the press release "with genuine revulsion". They described the trailer as "grisly", "extremely violent, and very tacky".

PC Magazine's David Murphy wrote to "get ready for the backlash about the ultra-violent shooter ... if this game is ever released". He compared the game to Manhunt, Postal, and Mortal Kombat—other video games once considered controversial for their amount of violence—and felt that Hatred "will generate just as much controversy".

While some noted that the player had just as much capacity to kill innocents in game series such as Grand Theft Auto or Fallout, Forbes noted that those games penalized such actions in ways Hatred did not, as violence was "literally ... the entire content of the game".

Mike Splechta of GameZone questioned the game's timing and how it could become the "next scapegoat" in a climate that already held video games responsible for school shootings and other violence.

Polygon's Ben Kuchera wrote that the trailer was a "rhetorical failure" in that it attempted to shock viewers, but ultimately reflected juvenile attention-seeking reminiscent of the Slipknot-style, 1990s "shock culture" aesthetic.
