It was such a surprise, wasn't it?! I took my Daughter to see it, and I think I liked it more than her. It had an innocence to it that you don't see in many movies anymore, and it took its characters and subject matter seriously. Good acting, Directing and the characters werent one note cardboard cutouts. They could have made the "villain" a evil caricature, but they just made him a normal guy who maybe made the wrong decision one day. it's almost hard to believe this was a big studio summer movie.

It was SUCH a surprise. Absolutely not your usual cash grab remake with phoned in performances that cater to the ADD generation. Everyone brought their A game, it's almost a slow burn but you're never "waiting for the movie to start." It grabs you from the opening scene and doesn't let go.

Great point about the "villain" not being a caricature. No one was. The kid who played Pete was fantastic.

It was totally Jungle Book meets E.T., and I don't mean that in a bad way. It takes it's time, but that felt refreshing, It's one of those movies that almost feels like it suspends time while your in the theater. I never expected to like this movie, but I really enjoyed it and have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. I'd rather take my Daughter to see this 100x over seeing Minions once.

Also, they were really spot on in how they recreated the 70's as i remember it from my childhood. I almost felt like I was there.

Yep, agreed on all of the above. There were definitely similarities with E.T. and The Jungle Book as well as moments from The Never Ending Story and My Neighbor Totoro. But as you say not in a bad way, just inevitable parallels due to overlapping subject matter and not because it was "copying" those films.

I might have edited my previous post too late but I added a line acknowledging your comment about the "villain" not being a caricature. I liked that from his point of view Elliot was the aggressor so in his mind his actions made perfect sense.

Good call on Nerending and Totoro. We seem to agree on a lot of movies, I might have to actually give BVS a chance. ;). Don't expect any miracles though. :lol

As long as the good outweighs the bad I tend to be pretty forgiving with films like BvS because it's fun to geek out over them. But it has nowhere near the quality of The VVitch, Shallows, Cloverfield or Pete's Dragon.

I didn't grow up reading comics, so that "geek" aspect might be lost on me. My exposure as a child were Saturday morning cartoons like Justice league and the old Adam West Batman series.

You might still enjoy it but if you're more of a movie guy than a comic guy then I'd recommend Suicide Squad over BvS.

Drive. A fun crazy ride wish it was a differnt ending give a 7.

Imperium. Daniel Radcliffe plays Undercover fbi agent in a true story in undercover nazi sting to foil a terror attsack , i give a 6.

Watched World War Z the other night. Loved it.

What was the reaction here to that film?

I liked it quite a lot, it's been a minute since we've had a straightforward zombie Hollywood movie without some other shtick.

word is Pitt is looking at Fincher for the sequel. :drool

World War Z surprised me. I wasn't expecting to like the movie and ended up having a great time watching it. The loudest complaints I've heard were from people who read the book it was based on.

I'd be amazed if Fincher would be on board for that. Doesn't seem like his thing.

Anyway, this particular brand of zombie is a much more plausible end of civilisation scenario than TWD. Made it very tense. A lot of very good scenes.

yeah that was the buzz going around, maybe possible but the report said Pitt visited Fincher himself, weather he said **** no or maybe is the thing. :lol they've worked together a lot though.

I read the book before the movie, it's ****ing horrible.

it reads like a military journalist manual. it's no novel.

Yeah, I can see why the movie wouldn't appeal to fans of something like that. I saw complaints about how certain battles with the zombies in the book weren't in the movie. I'm guessing the sequel will have that stuff.

Tense is a good word. I watched this in the middle of the day in my living room and was still on the edge of my seat.

the only thing the movie is based off of as far as the book goes, is the title, and the main character being in the UN trying to find patient 0.

The Witch 10/10

Finally got to watch this again. This time out in the woods with a sheet and projector! Scary as all hell. My friends all loved it and we are now officially in our Halloween craze. It was extremely nice to watch with subtitles, I completely misunderstood a lot of what they said in theaters. Over all a great horror movie bound to be a classic.

Sausage Party 7/10

Some really inspired violence and some humor. Other than that a real slog in between.
