Great film.
After checking out some articles, it sounds like the only reference was that occult bookstore Ray was still working at. I haven't watched GB2 in a while so had forgotten all about it.
Reitman said the movie is still canon though, and if there's a sequel he will likely include more references to it.

Dammit, I've read a good enough number of critical reviews by fans to deduce that this is probably not a movie for me. What I gathered from several non-spoiler critiques was that this movie is takes pandering to a whole new level, it's basically Fan Service: The Movie. I love Ghostbusters and even tolerated the 2016 reboot but I always HATED fan service, it always feels like I'm talked down whenever it's shamelessly done. I know a lot of people love being having movies with the "See, we did the thing! Aren't we in tune with what you want?" but I think good movies should stand on their own two feet.
Not hating on the movie (or the people who enjoyed it) since I haven't seen it, just expressing what I don't like in films and this seems to have them in spades.

A lot of it is done right to be honest. Definitely worth a watch to make your own mind up.

Definitely will since not cool to judge a movie without seeing, I'm just praying to Gozer that I'm wrong. Or maybe just wait for the blu ray.
Yeah it certainly gets a bit fan servicey at the end, but for the most part it feels more like just a loving tribute to the original film, and something much more sincere than the kind of grating and pointless fan service we saw in, say, Rise of Skywalker.
It also has more of a slow burn, early-80s Spielberg vibe than the original film, so you need to be prepared for that as well.

I've not been going to the cinema myself in the current climate. I'm glad I pushed myself to go and see this. The proton pack and Ecto siren sounded really good on the speaker system.

Just saw it and I think it was nicely done. Lots of callbacks sure but it still told it's own story while respecting the original source material. My second favorite Ghostbusters movie. It was fun.

It was Stranger Things meets The Goonies meets Ghostbusters but I thought they mostly held it together well despite some pacing issues that were probably difficult to avoid due to time constraints. It was an entertaining movie, I'm not going to nitpick it to death. If you are going to do a sequel to a loved franchise almost 40 years later and replace the old stars of the original while still incorporating them into the film, this is a decent example of how to do it.
Red Letter Media hated it.

If I was to nitpick it would be that I felt it took too long to really get going.
Even to a casual viewer I think it was fairly obvious that Egon (or any Ghostbuster really) was Phoebe's Grandfather.

If I were to have a serious go at the film I would just say that you have to suspend disbelief a bit more than you might like, even in a movie about busting ghosts. But not doing so just ruins the fun, and I feel there is a lot to be had. I have seen some complain that there is not enough humor for a Ghostbusters film but I thought they did a good job on that front. All things considered this exceeded my expectations of how well a Ghostbusters sequel movie would turn out in 2021.
Yea, not shocked by that. That is turning out to be their schtick lately. Just tear apart every movie. Doesn't affect my positive opinion of this movie at all.
