One thing I'm likely not to see in my lifetime but will come to pass is the totally immersive metaverse, virtual reality, whatever it will be called experience... like the Matrix, going into a believable whole-new-world and experiencing it like we do in the real world... now that will be something incredible.

It's why Star Trek has always been a secondary universe to Star Wars for me.

Star Trek is too utopian, conjuring every need apparently out of thin air, and creating virtual yet tangible worlds in finite detail. It's so perfect that the writers have to invent reasons why people don't become like the Eloi in The Time Machine, living a banal life of ease, and never needing to create or invent anything beyond new stories for holodeck experiences.

Star Wars is largely dystopian. A universe of struggle, with most things far from perfection. A dirty, used universe.

I disagree. You'd be physically active in the Holodeck. So you would burn more calories than you normally would in a normal day if you are in the Holodeck constantly having sex or being active living out an adventure or sports fantasy.

Also, you can eat all you want in the Holodeck and not gain any weight because the food isn't actually real, but your brain gets the pleasure of the food. You would still need real food outside the holodeck tho, but maybe not as much as a result of the Holodeck experience.

The future is going to be awesome 300 years from now.

It would all be in your mind... the holodeck can't really work the way its implied -- how can the floor accomodate walking in any direction instantaneously? How can you swim? No, you'd have to be suspended or in antigravity so you could walk in any direction, swim, etc. And you see how astronauts come back after 6 months at the space station -- they need to be carried.

Anyway, at that point we'd all be cyborgs and could have any body shape we wanted I suppose.

Also, if anyone is looking for someone, it's Vader, looking for Obi to kill him. Vader during this time period is supposed to be at his most savage and ruthless. The guy is freshly burned and pissed, so he's like Jason Voorhees going after every Jedi that's left. That's the whole reason Obi went and hid in some ***** planet. A planet he knew Vader wouldn't go back to. The show could tease a fight or the idea of Vader getting closer to catching Ben, building up the suspense and tension and their inevitable meeting in ANH, but if they're just having them fight again it's because of fan service, because it's "too cool" to pass up. They should get Snyder to direct the show while they're at it. They should keep Vader away from Ben and just have Vader kill and fight other people. Maybe, have them connect telepathically at some point.

If Snyder directs Obi-Wan will be walking out of the Mos Eisley Starbucks with two lattes-to-go just as Darth and his minions are barging into the cantina next door. Obi-Wan will then walk past the cantina window (in slow motion, of course) moments before Vader glances out. Darth then proceeds to the Starbucks none the wiser, while Obi-Wan meets up with his new Jawa friend Martha for their daily ritual of watching the dual sunrises together.

I appreciate the question, my friend, but my simple answer is: No. There's too much story value in the Vader/Kenobi dynamic as we've understood it since the end of the OT. It doesn't need, nor should it be allowed, to be re-imagined.

The original Star Wars should never be diminished just to prop up the garbage that was the PT. I usually try to be more diplomatic about this sort of thing, but SW is being watered down to the point where I can't be genuine in doing so anymore.

If it happens, some fans will try to equate it to the recontextualizing of ANH that Lucas did with ESB and ROTJ. Nonsense! Those stories were evolving and moving forward. Plot twist allowances in that sense are totally different. But to go back after 44/45 years to change a key element of the dynamic between two pivotal characters just because it could be "cool," or because it might retrofit something to help make the ****** PT a better fit? **** no!

I'm sick of it, to be honest. I'm sick of LFL/Disney playing fast and loose with "the last of the Jedi will you be." I'm sick of dead characters being brought back because creators of today are too vapid to come up with their own equals. And I'm sick and tired of the inferior PT era requiring the OT to be recontextualized in order for everything to "fit" or work more cohesively. So I'm not going to be playing along anymore. The original OT is what matters to me; the rest is too "take it or leave it" to be worth changing how I perceive the original OT context which inspired me so much as a child. It's not worth it.

I'll watch, and hope to be entertained, but it won't "count" in my personal canon. Frankly, only Andor has any chance of "counting" for me. As long as it doesn't incorporate any of the animated crap, or otherwise try changing OT context. The rest of the "content" is messing too much with characters and context that meant too much to me for too many years.

Dayum, quite a hardline position. I've softened on the idea of this show over time. In fact I remember my earliest encounter with Ducky and aussiebott on this forum was when I asked - possibly in this thread - how am I going to accept as canon any new Star Wars that acknowledges the PT and their depiction of characters and events - which they rolled their eyes at and took some umbrage to.
