In a new interview with Variety Gareth Edwards is saying that he was never fired from Rogue One and that Tony Gilroy was brought on to assist at the end and they were all working together. He said that while the Vader scene at the end was added through last minute pickup shots he was still the one who filmed it and not Gilroy, which I always assumed since Gareth himself had a cameo in that sequence.

I didn’t even realise that him being fired was a thing. I was always under the impression they worked together in the edit room.

Edit: plus I’ve also read that Filoni directed the Vader scene. In other words don’t believe a thing you read lol.

That's a bit undone by who they went to for Andor though. And when Gilroy responds to this it will be with the backdrop of Andor S2.

And "assist" in what capacity exactly? Like a two-seater canvas "director's sofa" with two names stenciled on the backstrap, both of them calling "action"?

My guess is that it still really stings seven years later and his agent pointed out "they never actually contractually fired you" or something... even though Disney hired another writer-director who showed up on your set and began directing your actors and calling the shots with your DP and art department.

i.e. I'm sure they didn't escort Edwards from the set and he was likely welcome to stay on however he chose (he's a huge SW fan so he obviously would have, and he's not an adversarial type guy), but he was no longer "directing the movie" even if that's what it still said on his trailer door and chair.

I really like him, but trying to spin this into "Gilroy was just helping me" just comes across as silly, and is perhaps driven by the somewhat lukewarm critical/commercial response to Creator.

Hey woah! I’m gonna have to ask one of the mods to clean this thread after seeing this. I did not need to see hobo Luke milking Batman

Edit.
Omg! Asta posted this? A mod has fallen to the darkside
If Batman being milked by hobo Luke is too much I have bad news for you. The wider internet will traumatise you. Get offline now! Escape while you can!

Two girls one cup on YouTube, yup, those were the times... :lol
Ah yes, the days before social media platforms, when to go viral meant colleagues emailing everyone with links to 144p videos.... those were the days. I recall the 2G1C video was soon followed by "1 guy 1 jar" and the (somehow tame to our collectively desensitised selves) 1 chimp 1 frog.

Hopefully Disney will continue to give us material for future viral memes. Perhaps Lizzo milking Boba Fat will be Mando season 4's gift that keeps on giving. My traumatised and desensitised self is ready for the endless memes.

Yea kinda crazy how stuff spread back then. You just kinda heard from a friend of a friend or saw something on tv. Gosh those videos were disturbing. Pain Olympics I think it was called. Yea I’m glad I stayed clear of those
