Odd...people keep questioning the choice of not going with the original sculpt on QMX’s Facebook page. After each question regarding it though, QMX deletes. Looks like they simply won’t address issue and are trying to ignore it. Ug.

Just shows you they're aware of the problem and ignoring it. Bad business.

They did sort out the Mal fiasco, so more than capable, but apparently this is a studio/actor decision. They should still reply though.

Give the customer what they want=SALES, ignore the customer and give them what the company wants=?

They sent me a PM threatening to block me from the page if I continued to post negative comments. They would only say the design changes are not being publicized. [emoji848]

At least Uhura is looking good. From Nanjin's FB. Wonder why he can still post to FB and not here anymore?

Seriously? What a pathetic thing for a company to do. They should either take on board the criticism and adapt or ignore it, not threaten customers :lol

I received Sulu today. The new smile is extremely odd and the eyebrows seem to have a life of their own, but the rest is up to their typical standards. I would like to hear from QMX about why they switched to this sculpt while still keeping the old one on the box cover, on their website, on other vendor's websites, etc.

They've confirmed it was a decision made by the licence holder who felt a smile better captured the essence of the character. Licence holder had the final say and I'm not sure that blaming QMX for that decision, assuming you're unhappy with it, is wholly fair. I'm still looking forward to receiving mine.

Criticism can be well received if framed constructively but I would hate to see the line talked into oblivion because every figure isn't everyone's idea of perfect. I'll reserve my own review for after I've received the figure.

It's still feels like a bait and switch on their part. QMX keeps their PO windows pretty tight, which means that by the time it's up on their site, the figures are close to shipping. They must have known at that point the sculpt would be different, and still went with the superior head sculpt for the PO photos and the box cover. And then they shared the oddly dark photos of the final figure, claiming it turned out better than the prototype. And to threaten to block your consumers for questioning them is ********. I could maybe understand if this was a newer company, but they've been making figures for a few years now. We should expect better from them at this point.

Oh so they really said it was a licensor decision? When Dave popped in earlier he made it sound like it was QMX's decision because they thought it captured the actor better.

Guess it doesn't really matter too much in the end though. We're still stuck with this smirky Sulu regardless.

It may have been that the decision on the sculpt wasn't in time to prepare further professional promo pics and boxes. There are a lot of moving parts in getting these figures onto the shelves and their profit margins would be slashed if they had to bin them and start again. I don't for one moment think they deliberately used the 'wrong' pictures to trick people.

Asking questions is fine, but if people try to avoid hyperbolic language and an aggressive tone, they may find that their questions are answered more readily. The people at Qmx don't sit in a room waiting to respond to every message posted on a forum in real time. They have a job to do. It's frustrating for us but it's reality. The moderators on the forums are likely trying to reign in people going from 0 to 60mph in the space of three messages.

That doesn’t account for the Vulcan eyebrows.

Also, other companies are transparent with decision like this - even showing the final product to inform consumers. Hot Toys takes it on the chin regularly for the decisions they make in sculpting choices - to my knowledge there are no threats of blocking or corrections with how to rephrase their critiques. Granted, their financial stability may be greater, but that’s no excuse for a gag order. Further, I have no indication companies like Hot Toys, Threezero etc. delete comments expressing customer dissatisfaction. Just my opinion, but that seems to come with the territory doesn’t it?

Different companies will have different strategies.

They'll happily take your money, just not your honest opinions. I always hate it whenever a company goes down that road, where they only accept or allow positive commentary, because echo chambers aren't good for anybody long term... :slap

Most aren't quite quite so austere but negative echo chambers can be far more damaging than positive ones. Criticism and advice on how to better please their customers going forward should be welcomed. An angry rant about why you'll never buy this product before its even on the shelves, is less helpful. Think of constructive ways to engage. Maybe a vote on different facial expressions on their site could be a way for fans to interact and would give them some data to present to the licence holder. That sort of thing.

It would be one thing if the sculpt they are sending out was the one shown to us originally, shown on their website, etc. But to use a different sculpt/expression after leading us to believe that we were going to be receiving the highly anticipated improved version, just doesn’t sit well. If they don’t want the complaints, then send out what we were led to believe we were getting.

Definitely growing on me in hand, but that may be due to grouping it with the other crew members. Can’t overlook though that some angles throw it way, way off though. After Dean Winchester this is definitely strike 2.
