Re: New Judge Dredd movie
Mind Blowingly awesome!

(Watch out for spoilers, but if I put in a doozy I'll tag it)
The tactical armor the Judges wear on the street is very cool, someone asked and yes there is the deep classic judge green in the costume, but only on the bands holding certain armor on (definitely on the arm above the wrist communicators and this is best seen under the light on the elevator ride down at the end) The armor is just tactical plates strapped over an undersuit, basically a futuristic swat. The bonus for comic fans is that the ornamental judges pauldrons are used by office/admin people, so its not non existant, nice homage there, but the Judges tactical pauldrons in the field looked great as well.
The effects were teriffic, twice as mind blowing when you look at their small budget. I also didn't think it was gore overload.
The Psy effects were handled very well, sometimes I wished there were more, but I think what was shown is enough of a base without it seeming overdone.
The story was straight out, no big surprises, but non stop action. If you consider some films a masterpiece like a fine wine, this was a chugged beer. Everything was dirty, the weathering of the judges and the citizens was super. I would not have believed Lena Headey could be made to look so nasty, between the scars, the brown jagged teeth and that weird look, I honestly kept forgetting it was her.
The Lawgivers were superb. They looked like they'd be actual tech, just very advanced. They did enough to them to keep that real weapon feel, but I also like how it seemed like more of a knights sword than "just a fancy gun". One of my favorite scenes...
was the prisoner stumping himself trying to use Anderson's Lawgiver
My one complaint and it was minor: the Lawmaster. Thought it looked lame. Wish they went more for a classic thick look like in the books, they almost looked like backwards mopeds or something on screen. With all the great visuals they put together, I have no idea how these were executed on screen so poorly.
