Saw this at 1230am this morning in the IMAX in Manchester and all I can say is WOW, go see it even if you are not a Trekkie, this is the best Sci Fi film to be done in a decade I believe, this is what Lucas should have done for the prequels. Action is non stop, good story, great effects excellent cast, I cant recommend it enough, Im a diehard SW nut and this blows away anything Lucas has done since 1980:horror Go see it.:banana

I just got back from seeing this movie and TOTALLY loved it!!!
Damn AWESOME special effects and great storyline!!!
I am familiar with the movies and DS9 and Voyager and am totally a HUGE Star Wars fan...but this was a really really good flick and i totally recommend it!!
Of course i wont post spoilers but i must say that Uhura is DAMN sexxy as!!!
Bana was gr8 as the villain, and Quinto as Spock rocked as did Nemoy
great soundtrack too,and the opening 10mins really set the tone for this flick!!!!

Also, they showed the NEWEST transformers trailer!!!!
WOOT WOOT

Admittedly, I've never been into Star Trek at all, but I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie. I've been a follower of anything J.J. Abrams has had his name attached to since Alias.

One of the Cinemagic theaters near us has Imax now and we're going to see it on my birthday Sunday. :banana

And yet I didn't really have a big problem at all with Superman Returns. Yes, Luthor's scheme was recycled from the original, but the overall poignant and bittersweet tone of the movie was absolutely amazing and still holds up for me three years later.

I'm right there with you Sith Lord! I am a HUGE Christopher Reeve Superman fan...always will be. But I enjoyed Superman Returns. I saw it in IMAX down here, and it was great. It even had a few IMAX 3-D scenes that were nice too.
:D

Ditto!
I love Superman Returns, great movie, I didn't like Louis Lane though...

Back on topic,
Yep, go see this movie, it's great!!
I'm no Trekkie fan but enjoyed it a lot!! minus Checkov... but hey... I had a great time!

I was unaware this actually opened today and not tomorrow. Huh. Wonder if the wife will be up to see it tonight...

wtf? It's been "May 8" for a looooong time. I bought my tickets for Friday a week ago, and there were no Thursday dates (other than midnight showings Thursday night / Friday morning). After reading your comment, I checked again, and there are 7:00 showings as well as midnight showings for today.

wtf?

:dunno Either way the wife was totally down for it so I just bought my tickets online for a 7:00 PM showing and am about to head off to dinner and movie :rock

Just got back an hour or so ago.

Wow... just wow. I dont have time to go into everything... so many touches from the tv series and films referenced, all of which made you smile.

I was expecting it to be fast, loud and with great effects (and it was!) but i wasnt ready for just how much FUN it was. And the characters and the relationships between them were brilliantly done. Kirk and Bones were just amazing.

oh... and Chris Pine as Kirk? unbelievably fabulous!! Confident, cocky, brilliant. (better than shatner? *gasp*)

It was funnier that i expected, and the characters already felt more real and fleshed out in this 2 hour film that in all the previous films and tv shows put together. (and I LOVED the original movies/60s show)

damn... when can I go back. lol :rock :rock :rock

Roll on Star Trek 2

My thoughts exactly!!! There were SO MANY touches and nudges to the original series and movies. Fantastic story, and so much fun! With Chris Pine, I can really see him coming into his stride in the sequel.

while I agree that they did a fantastic job with fleshing out a lot of the characters, my only small complaint was I felt they may have given some of them too many "obvious" lines. sometimes they felt a bit forced.

outside of that, I can't wait to see it again. And for those who haven't seen it yet, SEE IT IN IMAX!!!

A film can never go wrong with Bruce Greenwood in the cast. Pike! It was a long time ago I had so much fun during a movie and wanted to see it again right after!:banana

I was reading an article that they're only predicting it to take in 50 million this weekend, and if it does, they'll consider it a success. I'm betting it takes in more than that! I can't see it till Sunday though.

Considering the generally panned Wolverine opened to $85 at the height of a flu scare, $50 seems really low for a movie that is generally getting a lot more hype and plenty of good buzz.

Just got back from seeing it and all I can say is WOW! Every scene commands your full attention and Pine as Kirk is just astounding. Quinto did an equally amazing job as Spock. I agree with what was said previous that these characters are fleshed out in under two hours more than they were in the show and movies (and again I am a TOS fan so that says something). And as always it really neat to see Nimoy as Spock once again. I guess it really is never say never regarding those ears.

I posted this in the Sandbox but might as well put it here to get some exposure.

That is awesome and so accurate! This is why I must see this Star Trek movie because it won't be a big boring mess of crap like its previous counterparts are.
