Spider-Man 2 was critically acclaimed and considered one of if not the best superhero film ever made when it came out, yet it made less money than the first Sipiderman film. Then Spidey 3 made more than the first two films...and it got the worst reviews. :duh :medic

It's interesting, because Spidey is known for having one of the best rogues gallery in comics, yet no matter how successful the movies are with critics and audiences, the villains don't seem to have a lasting impression. That's probably why Sony added Venom in Spider-Man 3, because he's a cool looking character with a lot of potential.

But 2 was so bad. I just don't understand Spiderman I guess, or rather what Spiderman fans want. If Spiderman 2 is the best of what Spiderman can be, I just as soon never see another Spiderman movie. Ever.

You thought 2 was bad? 2 was a great movie of Peter struggling to figure out if he wants to be spiderman or Peter Parker . The train fight alone is just so intense. What fans want from a Spider-Man movie is to see spidey struggle with being both a hero and a normal person. He's a character who wins but in the end loses which is a lot like life. He's a relatable character. Unlike iron man who comes home to billions , Peter comes home to being broke, love life falling apart and a sick aunt .

People liked this movie and raimi because it shows just because your a superhero doesn't mean you get to live life easy and win all the time.

The internal struggle of Peter and Spider-Man is what fans want.

See people hated 3 cause the symbiote is supposed to bring out the darkness in Peter not make him some dancing dork. It's supposed to bring out his inner rage and anger from always losing at life.

Sony is to blame for three. Which is why asm movies never took off. The studio and some hack name avi arad thought it was a good idea to add venom instead of creating a good story. Then they rebooted cause they didn't wanna gonna back to marvel. Spider-Man has an amazing rogues gallery but they need build up in order to gain there full potential. Venom for example needs build up.

he could be amazing on screen if done right. Sadly Sony thinks some of these villains can carry a movie. Boy do they have a huge bomb on there hands.

This is why I like Spider-Man as a character. He chooses to do the right thing as Spider-Man but those choices have personal consequences, often disastrous, for Peter Parker.

Rambo 2 is trash compared to First Blood, just forget about Rambo 3 lol.

Die Hard was responsible for killing the Stallone/Arnold cinematic macho regime.

Moonlighting’s Bruce Willis was the new type of hero.

But that era gave us great movies no matter your preferred type of hero.

Superhero: Superman 2
Brooding hero: Batman 89
Modern Macho: Predator (the king of 80’s macho as far as i’m concerned)
Fantasy Macho: Conan
Sports Macho: Rocky
Adventure: Indy
Survivalist: Road Warrior
Regular Kid: BTTF
Every day blue color man: Die Hard
Scifi hero: Terminator/Aliens

Arnold definately was above Stallone when it came to macho roles.

I left SW OT out on purpose lol

Sorry DiFab but Spiderman Homeboy > Spidey 3.

Sure harry’s death gets me all the time but the rest of that movie is a mess.

Yea I can't see how anyone could put 3 over homecoming (except for say snikt) . Three had the potential to be amazing but was overcrowded and cringeworthy. It pissed me off how bad that movie was

Shouldn't survivalist be First Blood? :lol

Dystopian hero: Mad Max

Also, I don't think Die Hard killed the Arnold/Stallone era of action heroes, because both continued making successful action films in the 90's, but it opened the door for actors like Nicolas Cage, Travolta, Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas, and Will Smith to make action movies, and be taken seriously as part time action heroes, since they were more versatile and able to work in different genres.

That continues to be a trend with Liam Neeson, Denzel Washington, and just about every young actor making superhero films. Only Vin Diesel and Statham remain as full time modern action heroes, if you don't count the martial artist actors.

Technically you would be right had I included First Blood in my list :nana:

Regarding Die Hard literally Siskel/Ebert and Entertainment Tonight said so lol

I consider 1994 to be the true "changing of the guard" year with regard to action heroes with Arnold in True Lies metaphorically passing the torch to Keanu in Speed. After 1994 Arnold/Sly movies never took center stage again but we got lots of Keanu/Cage/Cruise/Travolta actioners.

I can see that.

Stallone's last big hit movies in the 90's were "Day Light" (1996) and "Cop Land" (1997), but those weren't action movies.

Arnold had "Eraser" (1996), Jingle All the Way (1996), Batman n Robin (97), and End of Days in 1998.

Only Eraser was a true action movie, but far from Arnold's best work, but it was his last big hit in the action genre until Terminator 3 in 2003 and the Expendable films.

I miss 90's movies all action with very little emotion. Now movies have to have heart and no more bullet count. The exception though is John Wick. He would have fit in nicely but n the 90's

For me Arnold ruled the 90's. Total Recall was awesome! The whole idea of a wet towel blocking a sensor that can be seen from miles away!
