Yeah kind of disappointing and honestly a bit surprising we didn't see more. I didn't expect anything big but thought Hot Toys would show off a couple more things. At least they gave us Anakin earlier in the week. Lord help me I'm excited about a Prequel Trilogy figure.

What a disappointment...it's a fact that Bob Iger's primary reason for buying Lucasfilm was the merchandising application not the movies...the decision to keep making movies was designed to provide a steady stream of interest to keep the merchandise selling...it sounds cynical but as a fan of Star Wars movies and merchandise it felt like a win/win...so what happened with this so called Force Friday II? What a dud...
It's possible that retailers and manufacturers just couldn't embrace yet another SW "date" event. Celebration and May the Fourth are pretty established every year (plus the "__"th Anniversary of Episode "___" thing every few years.)
Maybe three's a crowd even when it comes to SW merch love-ins.

Like I said before I think when this is done every year (and really twice a year with May the 4th) it gets to be too much and just another thing for most people. The first time (well at least under Disney's ownership) was special because it was ten years between films and Force Friday didn't exist and May the 4th wasn't quite as big of a thing. I think it would be smart if it wasn't a yearly thing now that there's going to be a Star Wars film probably every year.

Yup...I am pretty sure you are right..it would probably be best if they just calmed down then...having no event is definitely better for the brand than having an "event" that is a dismal let down...

I think now that Han is gone Finn has an opportunity to step up more in the new film. I think the first one Rey and Kylo were the main focus and Han and Chewie took focus away from him.

If we ever get to the point that toy sales dictate which characters live and die in the films then Star Wars should be killed off too...not sure that Leia would have lived past the first film based on her sales...

I saw a video on youtube of people waiting outside of a Target on Force Friday at midnight. There were maybe 12 people in line. It's just not worth it from a retailer perspective for them to invest that much in it when you're really only appealing to about a dozen or so nerds in your local area. My best friend did force Friday early Friday morning and went from Target to Walmart and then finally Toys R us when it opened. He saw the same 8 other guys at each location, all speedwalking to the star wars section. I think it's only a big deal in big cities and everywhere else it's just another day and at this point, it's not THAT big a deal for new Star Wars anything as we now get a new film every year and the merch never really goes away.

Did I miss something? Why is Sideshowtoy.com calling it Force Friday II? I bought the First Order Squad Leader Stormtrooper 2 years ago from them on Force Friday.

I didn't do any retail shopping this year and last year. I did go to the TFA Force Friday early morning opening at Disney Store in 2015. There were tons of people there, and I even went early. They opened at 6 in the morning, I got there around 5:15 and I was number 47 in line. The first 100 got a free pin and by the time they opened there were at least 100 already waiting. Had a fun time getting everything I wanted. They had an abundance of pretty much everything. I kept hearing people say how they went to Target and it was a bust, hardly anything on the shelves. Made me glad I skipped those other stores. Though I did go to the Walmart a couple blocks away right after.
Just like last year, I only did online shopping this year. Preordered the Figuarts, and ordered the Black Series Poe Dameron helmet.

I thought in the release or RO toys THAT was Force Friday II. Maybe it's only for the new trilogy?

Apparently last year it was called something else. Just a marketing thing I guess but they've done it all three years under Disney's ownership.

Force Friday is mainly for stuff like Hasbro and Funko. I guess HTs don't really care about this stuff.
