Where is the contest/giveaway? I don't have a problem with the guy himself, but I'm sorry I just can't stand his voice. Doesn't mean he's a bad person, I just have a hard time sitting through his reviews, LOL. :thud:

All the info is in this video...

Yeah, it's quite a lot to sign up for and do just for a shot, and I never win these things anyways whenever I do try so I'll pass.... What's the catch? I never understood how more hits and comments and raising your popularity is good unless you need an ego boost or something... :dunno

Eyeballs are a commodity - the more you have, the more you can charge for advertising. So in the end, eyeballs = profit potential.

Yeah, pretty "nice" of him, he gets kickbacks from BBTS and AlterEgo and numerous other Vendors. How about a contest where Sean Long cannot say "AWESOME" more than one time!:rotfl
He's obviously doing something right or he wouldn't have over 100,000 subscribers. I don't really get the amount of hatred that is directed at Sean. He seems like a pretty cool guy who happens to do reviews and in turn gets compensated with free or discounted figures.

I don't know the specifics but his job is a reviewer so he promotes his channel and the more hits he gets the more he gets paid by his sponsors I assume. I think the comments and whatnot are at least partially that he genuinely likes interacting with his fanbase. The guy seems pretty cool, that's why I don't understand why so many seem to dislike him.

Thanks for the explanation guys. I don't partake in social media so I never understood it or knew that you get sponsors and payment from it. He seems to be a really nice guy, full of energy, and nothing against him as a person but I just find it really difficult to listen to his videos haha. It is quite a lot to do to enter his contest but I can see why he requires it with your explanation that he gets paid for it. Cheers!

To have a chance to win any of the prizes from Sean Long, you'll have subscribe to both his channels, follow him on twitter, be his friend on facebook.......no thank you
I'll rather pay $625 for it

Working on hard wiring the Toy Legends armory so I don't have to rely on batteries, hopefully the same can be done here.

Yeah, I don't get why SOME people on here are too tough on professional reviewers who get figures early and for free. You can tell by some people's comments that it's beyond the voice of one reviewer, or the "excessive" hand gesture of the other, or by their being too biased and soft towards the brand. You speak with your own voice and people find it too hard on the ears, you get hated. You speak with a modulated voice with rehearsed dialogue, you get hated. Heck, you don't say a word for the entire video and people call you creepy.

Some people even go as far as blaming reviewers for the cost increases by making collecting commercialized, or hardselling their channels/blogs/websites by flooding threads just so they could get more traffic/hits/views. What's wrong with that? It IS a commercialized world, maybe since the day currency and marketing became a system, and these guys are just doing what they must to keep their jobs.

I watch Sean's reviews regularly. His voice can get to you after a while but his reviews pretty much cover everything. His batman at the cons is pretty fun tho

It's because they hype up the figures to get us to part with our cash. They are definitely a major factor in the price hike we see with these figures.

And like I said: MARKETING. Price hike? Maybe. Maybe not. Bottomline is if you get compelled to get it regardless of the price, at the end of the day, it's of your own doing.

We all do have our freewill. Blaming the reviewers for "making" you spend your cash just because they EFFECTIVELY hyped the merchandise up is like telling the court that it's the victim's fault by wearing a short skirt that you ended up raping her.

I think those people are simply irked by the fact that those reviewers are
most likely biased given that they get the figures for free.

I can understand people getting pissed whenever a, more or less paid,
reviewer would keep on hounding how "awesomeee" a figure is.
Somewhat insulting to one's intellect.

Just my $0.02

Or maybe some are just jealous that they get the figures for free.

I neither get pissed nor insulted when I know that someone who's paid/sponsored to do a review ends up saying mostly good things about the review. It's already a given, and that's how the world turns in commerce. It's still on the audiences' end to either believe what he hears, or trust what he sees. I know of some celebrities who model slimming products that they never even tried to use once and yet on camera they say a lot of good stuff -- all scripted -- about the product. You can never get insulted by even the most sly of people if you know what they do, how they do, and why they do it :)

I tend to stay away from reviewers who get high end items for free (whether it be from the manufacturer or a sponsor). I find their reviews extremely biased, plain and simple.

The guy who got the $600 Batmobile for free is going to be a lot more forgiving than the guy who saved up for a few months and dropped his hard earned cash on it. That is just the way it is and how the world works.

I get that. I know that. When I watch reviews from those who I know are sponsored, I watch them knowing that I'd hear mostly good things. Because they have to protect their relationship with their sponsors, those who keep them on the job. That's just the way it is and how the world works, for sure.

What I don't get is the continuous hating on some of these reviewers. Some to the point of seemingly judging them as if they're no good, that they should be despised, that they are just profit-oriented charlatans.

Oh well. I have already derailed the thread so much and for that I apologize. I've said my piece about the matter, and I'd leave it at that.

there's two sides to that coin.
Yes, people who get the items for free could be biased. (those videos from Hot Chick Cool Toy Reviews come to mind... they just love everything they reviewed. But I haven't seen a new review from them in a while).

But, people who spend $600 on a "toy" also don't really want to say they spent a lot of money on something they don't like. They tend to focus on the things they actually do like about it and look the other way on small issues it might have.

I myself get loads of cds from record companies, for review purposes. but if the cd is crap, the record company will read that in my review. They know you have to be as objective as you can.
Of course cds are a lot cheaper than these high-end collectibles, so they "give" them away a lot faster.
