Who is the most overrated character in all of Star Wars?

This thread has gone from most overrated to a dissection of the importance of the EU in a SW context--- and who says the internet isn't vital to mankind's existance?

Back on track--- Boba was the most overrated of the OT.

Darth Maul's face was plastered over everything TPM related and then he speaks--- what?--- three lines? I'm not saying he wasn't the coolest thing about TPM, but obviously you can see from a marketing standpoint in each of the prequels they picked the one "cool" Boba character to target the movie with (along with a colour):

(RED)Darth Maul- TPM
(BLUE)Jango Fett- AOTC (how much closer to Boba can you get?)
(ORANGE)Darth Vader- ROTS (however here we have the quandary as it's not the hulking Prowse Vader we're used to seeing menace people... it's Hayden in black...and we only see him in the final few minutes of the film and except for crushing a few medi-droids in absolutely no action)

I'm not saying that these specific characters from each of their corresponding prequel movies were awful--- I'm just saying that they were perhaps hyped beyond what they actually were (in the context of the movie they appeared in)--- does that make any sense or should we just go back to crapping on Admiral Thrawn?

I'd have to say old Obi Wan played by Alec Guinness. He was quoted as saying he was embarrassed by playing the character in the original trilogy. His light saber fight with Vader was downright geriatric. He was indeed 110% overrated.

Now you've made the monkey cry! :monkey2 Who else could have delivered such iconic lines?! :horror

As far as the thread's question:

PT - Maul, really quite wasted in the scheme of things (but did make TPM tolerable)

OT - Fett, but he still looks cool! :monkey5

Ah but he was wise... very very wise.

Overrated? Close call between Maul, Fett and Vader. Whereas Maul and Fett are just screen fillers, the supposedly evil Vader, is nothing more than a henchman, an employee of the true master of evil: Palpatine.

The EU is fantastic. For all those craving for more SW, the EU is where they find it. Some people want to limit themselves to the movies. If that's what they want, fine! It's a free (imaginary) world after all!
But, if one would really want to judge over the EU, he better be familiar with it. Read it, and THEN rip it to shreds.

Why is Lando popular? Well, it's obvious. It's a real Character. Varied. Ambiguous, he has a history, he evolves, and he really makes a difference in the movies. I rate him even over Han. Besides that, he's charming and sexy, well, more sexy than any of the other male characters in the series. Except for Akbar of course :D .

That's the most stupid thing I've ever read. :monkey3

That's VERY interesting.

Vader is Dutch for "father."

Lucas was duping us from the git.

I did not know that. That is some weird, wild stuff.

Most overrated... well, with the distancing of time I think the Ewoks and Lando have become rightfully faded, otherwise I'd have to look to them first. Jar Jar is both underrated and overrated.

I got it:

Any and all bounty hunters whose last name isn't Fett.

Why's that??? People like the old Obi character yet the actor didn't even like old Obi. He was definitely quoted as being embarrassed about playing old Obi and if you watch ROTS, and then A New Hope back to back, old Obi looks like he's waltzing with Vader compared to the outstanding battle young Obi and Anakin had. You never explain why you think my comments are stupid so I'm guessing you probably pooped your draws and couldn't find your computer coming back from the john....Bonehead.

You also have to remember that Obi was 20+ years older and probably hadn't been practicing his fighting skils much over that time. Darth should have been a little quicker but like Obi said he was probably more machine than man and that hurt his skills a lot. I heard Guinness was a bit unhappy that people only saw him as Obi but i never heard he was embarrassed about doing it.

Great point!!

I would say there a few overrated characters.

1. Boba Fett, Hes cool but really overrated.
2. C3P0 , Would anyone have missed him?
3. Darth Maul, cool concept that was very poorly used.

I think the "official" reason behind Vader's lowered skills are that with all his machine parts his use of the Force was weakened. But I could be mistaken, I can't recall where I got that from.

Well he obviously can't have Midiclorians flowing through his cybernetic circuitry now can he? Guess Uncle George didn't think about that one when he came up with that BS explanation of the Force. :lol

Maybe he should have been called 'Darth Torso'.

Old Yoda walked with a cane, but did VERY WELL against Count Dooku.

Add a third 'w' to read about how Guinness really felt. A short one but do a google for more.
