I've said it before but he reminds me of Kryten from Red Dwarf. :lol

That's fair, but only to a certain extent. The idea that being a powerful Force user would make someone immune from other Force users is undermined when you see Vader lifting Kenobi in the air and choking him with the Force. It's undermined by Yoda tossing Palpatine ass-over-head across his desk in ROTS. There are plenty of other examples too, so it leads me back to at least wondering why certain characters aren't taking advantage of abilities (which are shown later) in logical ways.
Definitely. Lots of variables in any confrontation I guess.

All good points, but in ANH Vader also said: "The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of The Force."

It also made sense to have more "crazy" Force usage in the PT as the Jedi were at their peak; there were simply more and better-trained Force-adepts running around.
I interpreted that more metaphorically, not so much as you could literally destroy a planet - and more - just by using the force.:dunno

Though we umm.... may not be too far away from literally that on Disney+ 😬 :lol

IMO the best Star Wars is an homage to either WWII movies, Samurai films, or Westerns (or any combination of the three.) The worst tends to emulate cartoons and video games. For all of its faults BOBF was much more in line with the former group of influences than the latter which makes it feel much more connected to true SW even with some of it's zaniest elements (Vespa gang, etc.) than Kenobi.

Characters that were originally cartoon characters (Ashoka and Bane) felt more grounded than OWK Darth Vader!

it is a bit of a strawman, I am not claiming the OT is perfect (in fact, I don't think anyone does) however it is obviously superior to what we have gotten since, and we should in this day and age of prestige television expect better quality than we are getting. To say "the OT was not perfect, you should not expect more of current movie/show" is like saying "the first Ford car didn't have airbags or brake lights, you shouldn't complain that the 2022 model doesn't include them".

No, there is such a thing as a bar, a certain level of quality that generally the vast majority can agree on. the bar for good star wars isn't actually super high, it just requires competent writing with decent dialogue and logic, competent direction, consistency and adherence to the lore and "feel" of Star Wars and decent visuals. What Disney has given us since their acquisition has in almost every case not reached that bar, instead giving us character assassination, plot holes galore with added retroactive plot holes, retcons, very poor writing that gives Prometheus a run for its money etc etc etc.

Star Wars should improve with time, not degrade. We thought the prequels would be the low point but we were wrong.

Catching up on this thread.....

This is an absolutely savage rebuttal, so perfect that really there is nothing else to say.

Prometheus is truly the worst big budget film i have ever seen. It literally made me want to throw things. Were i a filmmaker, the idea that one of my projects might in any way be compared to it would keep me up at night.

Kenobi hasnt gotten me there yet, more annoyed than angry really. But BoBF just about did, in a few instances. I loved the Alien franchise and I was so angry when I saw how it got treated. Was not Alien: Ressurrection bad enough? Nope. They dug in deeper.

Lucasfilm enjoys doing that, too.

Yikes! Best stay away from Alien: Covenant (if you haven't already). :lol

I would sit through a solid week of speaking-in-tongues, rolling on the ground I SMITE THEE IN THE NAME OF THE LORD praise-shouting revival church services before i subjected my eyes to Alien: Covenant. And that is saying something, because im not super fond of church or religion.

Christ! Another cancerous channel. Every video is negative, anti-woke warrior, rage bait, either complaining about something or celebrating the demise of something. I'll add it to the ignore list with Geeks+Gamers, The Quartering and RK Outpost...no offense.
Yeah but personally think Nerdrotic is funny AF. Plus, as a former owner of a comic store, he knows a lot. Don't always agree with him or Critical Drinker, but IMO they're not always trashing without reason.

Anyway, y'all excited for the epic last episode of Obi, and checking the cushions and under the car seats for some loose change so u can pick up a Reva HT or at least some HASBRO?

Meanwhile am treating this series as some sort of fan fiction anomaly. Srsly it bugs me that in ANH when Leia comforts Luke after the loss of Ben, she's doing it exactly like someone comforting someone who didn't really know the person who died. NOT someone who had had a moving relationship with someone long ago. This rehash show oozes chunks over the films so much:yuck, IMO it's best for me to view it as fan fiction filler, not part of my head canon.

But I telepathically saw some Mando trailers, and there's Andor. D*mn shame about Obi tho, unless Disney finally ponied up for a force ghost Qui-Gon in the end. Dunno about that, this show seems to be hallmarked with remarkable cheapness in the budget.

He's literally just a skinny The Quartering.

I had only been thinking about how it raises unwanted, unneeded questions about her hologram message to Obi-wan - but yeah, you're right, there's that scene too.

I guess you could say that if she never saw Obi-Wan again after the events of this series and so much time had passed she could revert to regarding him in purely formal terms.....but nah. This is all just too much. The show isn't good enough for me to want to let any of this slide.

Less than 24 hours will determine if this finale will determine whether or not if this series overall will be a hit or a miss and whether it’s worth another season

Yeah. I find that I can pretty much hand wave anything to fit but the harder the hand wave the more I need to love the overall product to justify such efforts.

Right now I'm on the fence with Kenobi leaning toward ignoring it so the finale will have to really be something special to justify all that has come so far.

Even I I detach it from the OT and see it only as an extension of the PT it's still surprisingly lacking in many areas.

It's just BS. Leia would have been crying along with Luke. It's UNNATURAL in the context of ANH. (OK, there's the kissing Luke whoops that's my sister thing:monkey3, but we all let that slide 'coz the OT has some kind of magic:love). Or, there's compelling arcs and characters in the OT and even in the PT.

Am kinda *&&^% 'coz in the Obi-Wan show, none of this had to happen...there's hints of what might have been.:pfft:
I'll be watching; but at this point will hafta settle for Obi at least looking slightly less @ss-whipped. Never thought I'd miss Boba so much.:lol And how could Inquisitors be so phenomenally boring?:stake

If this is the highlight of Luke we only get

I’m saying this show is a fail for me ..Even a whiny naive Hamill from ANH is better than nothing as far as showing Luke in a SW project.

Luke is the foundation of the OT and reduce him to nothing so far is a travesty of epic proportions Ms Chow :nono

For the love of god..don’t end the season without highlighting Luke :panic:

Even Favreau gave respect to Luke even if it was through CGI

To be fair, Leia had just finished losing her entire family when her homeworld was obliterated and still hadn't shed a tear. So, if she shed a tear over Obi-Wan, but not Alderaan, that'd arguably be even weirder.

There's 20 or 30 lore-tweaking elements from this show that are much bigger problems, IMO. And *that's* worth shedding a tear over. :lol
