Ahhh ok. If you were ordering one shirt would for TOS, would you go with a simulated or a accurate color?
I myself side with the Trek uniform zealots, set accurate colors is the way.

But most of the regular Trek fans don't know about these color issues. So to them, simulated colors will be the closet to the accurate colors from their perspectives; therefore, controversials still exist but not like Set accurate colors, not much room to start an argument.

I have grown to like Avocado or Command Gold, but not with the Science Teal yet. Since I will have both, I didn't give this issue much thought. It is not relevant to me anymore.

I've been watching rewatching the original series on Blu-ray and I can see the avocado on the command shirt. But when you watch the vintage previews on the bonus section they do look more gold.

I've been reading the color shift as possible to combination of reasons including the Eastman/KODAK 5251 color negative film, to how it was processed, and various colored gels used to light sets.

For authenticity I'm probably going to pick up accurate for command. As a kid I always assumed it was a yellow gold as well.

Thanks 👍🏼 Nanjin!

“....pick up accurate..” You need to be specific:

“Set” Accurate
-or-
“Screen” simulated/matched color

A point to understand about color options for TOS and TNG. If one started out with Avocado Set Accurate from the start, say Kirk, one has to follow through in purchasing the correct color for other characters such as Chekov and Sulu. Missed buying the correct color for subsequent characters will be disastrous. One more point, there's no going back too. If all out of sudden, one likes simulated Screen color better than the purchased Set color figures, one needs to pay eBay price to reverse course. I will assume it wouldn't be cheap either.

So make sure you know what you want and like, make decisions wisely, and DO NOT look back on the initial made decision. 95% people will “think” the other color is better and start to question their own decisions.

This is just like having HiFi as a hobby, stereophiles always “feel” Others or Showrooms have better systems then their own.

I will provide full explanation of these Set and Simulated Colors and detail color calibrated side by side comparison pictures so you guys can know what you are your options.

I also believe I would provide a Deluxe version of TOS/TNY that include both colors.

Don't mean to tempt you as a sales call. I myself will buy the Deluxe release and allow me to have both colors.

Nanjin, I love the idea of getting a deluxe set with both options. Quick question about the possible deluxe set, if it includes multiple heads like Data and multiple shirts wold you consider including a second set of boots and pants? That would mean all we would need to pick up in order to have two figures is a body. I have a feeling buying a deluxe set and a blank body would be cheaper for us than buying two full figures.

This will increase price and affect demand, not everyone will want the extra items on an already higher priced deluxe/extra items option.

Too many options can create more work and less efficient use of production time. Therefore, the differences in options can only extend to cover the minimum MSRP to attract demand, and at the point when production costs begin to overpass mass production cost advantage (we are not even consider as mass production in the eyes of real production companies. We are garage size)

Then of course, the licensor has the final say on everything. If EXO-6 moves to more like Toy merchandise, I might be required to have Walmart sales volume which is impossible for me to do. That's Playmates territory.

Totally understand. Definitely still like the idea of the deluxe even if it does not come with enough to create two figures. Just having the option on the shirts and not having to choose and risk changing your mind after the fact is fantastic. I know at this moment in time I don’t know which way I would go if I had to choose between screen “accurate” and actual accurate.

I love that idea as well but I'll have to see how much the increase in MSRP. I get nervous futzing about clothing and removing them. I'm scared I will damage something. Right now I'm going for set accurate. Yes and it does make sense to get all alike for each figure and not to mix and match.

But to have a alternate set in case is a great option.

I love these options as well. Maybe it'll change, but right now I'm thinking of buying deluxe for the first figure, choosing when I actually have it in hand the direction I'll go for the rest. At least for TOS. Thatll help manage the deluxe upcharge. Set accurate all the way for TNG though. I like the burgundy much better.

screen accurate! That’s what I’ve watched as an adolescent on TV and later currently on bluray. I never had an original TOS shirt in hand so I have no idea of what thecolors of the tunics looked like on the set.
Having seen pics of a Klingon female warrior TOS With faded sleeves I am not sure whether it’d be wise to pench on set accurate. Anyway, I will consider the deluxe option but certainly keep an eye on screen accurate TOS versions. That’s for sure.

Besides, all the outdoor scenes of TOS like a private little war or friday‘s child or shore leave etc etc show gold command tunics, not even a shade of avocado, even the distant shots with no film crew lighting show gold.

Try telling this to Trek uniforms zealots. Famous Trek dudes, like James Cawley , all go for Avocado.

Avocado Command Gold is the standard among the uniforms Trek fans.

i won't have the the color you saw from YOUR TV screen. I only have my simulated version basing on my BQ monitor and Bluray screen cap. I am sure it will be different from YOUR version of correct color.

This is starting to sound too complicated. Whatever color you choose, where it's simulated screen or costume accurate, I don't care anymore.

I'd rather only have one version, in case one color variant sells out, and then my set doesn't match.

Took 12-15 years of arguments among Trek fans to settle with the Set colors 😅

You need to pre-order. I don't intend to make available stock. I rather spend the resources on the next production. If I do, they will be in Set Accurate, the actual official colors. Simulated colors will only be available during pre-order. You will have one for sure if you have our order confirmation. I can always make one to fulfill a missing order if needed. I owe 95% of the 1/6 Starfleet uniform factory and I hired the head painter and tailor myself. My personal requests will be viewed as Commands 🤣 It is only one text message away.

In my opinion, you guys will have very difficult decisions to make when TOS comes around.

My personal advise is NOT to look at the other colors that you didn't choose especially if you choose simulated colors because TOS Set accurate colors will grow on you. I hated them at the beginning. But after a few days through different lighting, Set Colors are my colors.
The simulated colors should look good. I haven't even seen them yet but soon. I foresee these colors will post serious threat to Set Accurate colors acceptance.

I rewatched Space Seed last night and it's funny how the colors change from shot to shot. There's a wide shot of Kirk in the chair and the tunic looks avocado. Then it moves into a tight shot with Spock on his left and the tunic looks yellow. I guess it depends on the lighting positioning as well.

Same thing applies to TNG. The best to see the differences is when Picard or Riker walked out from the bridge turbo lift, from burgundy to strong medium red.

TOS Empath is a good example to see Set colors and how they changed from scene to scene (a lot easier to see because of the black background).

S3 used double knit fabric. Its thread or knit pattern reflected colors differently (micro shadows between threads will make the color darker. Together with the lighted threads, it becomes a strong contrast color fabric)

That's why these Set accurate uniforms are so fun to have. They change color throughout the day.
