Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Skyfall was just a bad lazy script with a very weak plot. It really came off like it had been knocked together one afternoon during tea. I'm not sure how it was ever approved.

The production, filming and acting I didn't have any problems with. Hope the next few are as good as Casino Royale.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I'll throw my two cents in here, in regards to Skyfall. Personally, I felt it was the most "Cinematic" of the Craig films. It felt more in tone with the rest of Bond series (ever so slightly over-the-top, and a little silly in all the right ways). For example, the fact that Craig's Aston Martin is now identical to Connery's (even including the steering wheel on the right-hand side; not the left as in Casino.

Personally, I felt it worked.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Connery isn't likely to ever return. In a recent interview, Michael Caine revealed that his great friend was suffering from an advanced state of Alzheimer's....

Possibly true, since he hasn't starred in a movie since 2003... :(

Actually I think Caine was misquoted, he never actually said Connery has Alzheimer's and has since call all these rumours "Bull****"
He just said how they're all getting old and joked about how they forget their lines and such

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

IF future sequels with Craig or his successor ever decides to reuse/revisit the plot from prior classic/vintage Bond films, the following ones IMHO needs to be considered for an updated take.

GOLDFINGER
YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
THE SPY WHO LOVED ME

IMHO the plot/story for the preceding three deserves to be updated for future films with Craig or his successor.

No thanks. They better keep coming up with new stories. We don't need to see remakes of classic Bond adventures.

We already had a remake of Wrath of Khan this year and it was beyond horrible. Don't need Bond to make the same mistake.

I really do hope you're right because this is so sad when a great actor like him finishes his days like that. I remember Pictures of Peter Falk roaming the streets and talking to invisible people... Made me shudder... :(

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Good conversations going here. Chiming in quickly...

Very sad to hear about Connery's health, even if its an exaggeration. Gave me a shudder just thinking about it.

Starz is playing all the old Bonds this month.

In regards to Skyfall, I really wanted to like it, and tried, but I couldn't get past the borrowed elements being so predominant (i.e. the TDK Joker stuff, the Bourne fight in Scotland). Bond has borrowed ever since Jaws and before, but some movies just get lazy and don't freshen those elements up enough. I also had issue with the logic of the reboot versus Bond lore since '62... and that damn car's history with Bond.

As much as it would likely suck, I would be very curious to see a remake/update of Goldfinger.... but only if Anthony Hopkins played Goldfinger.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

To be honest, I was among those who were horrified when Craig was cast as Bond. I remember reading the announcement on MI6 and thinking that they were stupid to cast a monkey looking, KGB Putin imitator as Bond.

But in retrospect, I gotta say Craig and Connery are the Bonds that impressed me the most, both being rugged, no mercy and almost no feeling seasoned killers. Quantum of Solace was a joke, but Casino Royale brought Bond in the XXIst century, and Skyfall was made as a sort of nod to the fans of the series. It was good for the regular audience, but if you've watched and loved all the previous Bonds, it takes an even sweeter flavor.

So is it good? Well, it's just another action flick with Bond in it, but what makes it special, and ultimately one of the best IMHO, it's all those little details that show they made it with love and not just for the money, but also as a way to say thank you to the fans that have been there since the start(or who caught up later, as the first Bond I ever saw in a theater was Moonraker when I was a nine year old kid)! :)

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I liked Skyfall a lot. Not as much as Casino Royale, but I thought it was a solid Bond flick. My biggest complaint about it was that the Scotland segment dragged a bit.

Everyone likes different Bonds and different films. Some people love OHMSS, but it's my least favorite... even below Moonraker.

Thanks for more pics of the DID. It really seems to look different from picture to picture depending on lighting. I hope everyone who gets it is very satisfied! :)

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Love all the Craig flicks.

Skyfall was great as well .... though I did find the 'Home Alone in Scotland' finale a very strange choice. They could have easily found other ways to do some scenes at Bond's childhood house.

Cinema Sins is never off the mark with their movie critiques: [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmoIDKqfY44[/ame]

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Because it's "4 minutes or less" they actually skip a lot of sins for most of the movies they cover, Skyfall being no exception. ;) Their stuff also seems geared to a general audience rather than super-fans, so they won't bring up canon-type stuff.

Of Craig's three turns as Bond thus far, QUANTUM OF SOLACE is the weakest.

SKYFALL > CASINO ROYALE > QUANTUM OF SOLACE

And I remember I loved it at the time! I had the Corgi shuttle and the 12" Mego Moore ( now I still have the head and parts of the suit), but this movie has become ones of those I like the least...

But there's only one Bond movie I really can't stand. I've only been able to watch it through once! That's Diamonds are Forever. The plot is so stupid in that one. The only thing that makes it Bond is Sean Connery! :(

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I think I'm the only one who thought Skyfall was the weakest of Craig's films. So much of it was borrowed from other Bond movies, there was not a lot that was original in there. And if I see another fight on top a moving train...

For me:
1. Casino Royale
2. Quantum of Solace (OK in theatres, but much much better the 2nd time around in blu)
3. Skyfall

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I think I'm the only one who thought Skyfall was the weakest of Craig's films.

That's also how I rank them - and we're not alone, I've seen plenty of people with the same thoughts, that the production, cinematography, direction and acting in Skyfall were great, but the story was just weak. When you watch it a second or third time it only gets worse, unlike the other two movies, which as you've noted, get better.
