So, is anyone else buying/reading these? Now that we're almost 6 months into this new era of JOE comics I figured it'd be time to start a thread.
Of course, we all know they're reprinting the classic Marvel books as TPBs. But IDW has been conjuring up some awesome original JOE stuff all their own.
I've been picking up all of the issues since #0. However, I admit I'd only really kinda flipped through them until this past weekend, when I actually stopped to read them all thoroughly. I'm quite impressed. Definitely the best JOE reading since the heyday of the Hama/Marvel series. I know that's not really saying a whole lot, but this stuff is seriously very good.
It's dark and serious, yet still fun and engaging. And I'm loving how they're rebooting to the very beginning where even Cobra itself is mysterious. In fact, some within G.I. JOE don't even believe it exists to the extent others suspect. It's a slow burn (not much has really happened yet even 5 issues in) but I really like that. It definitely promises to pay off huge and is a nice breath of fresh air from all of the crazy crap that Devil's Due tried to ram down our throats.
Hama is on the ORIGINS book right now and Chuck Dixon is writing the monthly G.I. JOE title. And there is a third current series called COBRA being written by Mike Costa & Christos Gage. After 4 issues of that another series will start. The three different creative teams will rotate between titles ever 6 issues or so, which is another very cool idea, imho.
Surprisingly, my favorite of these initial series so far has been COBRA... which is basically about Chuckles going undercover in an attempt to infiltrate Cobra and figure out what it's all about. Trust me, it's deeper and much more dark and intense than it sounds. In fact, only 3 issues in this book makes Chuckles and Jinx 10x cooler characters than they ever had any right to be. And there was a huge jaw-dropping moment at the end of Issue 3 when...
All of the books have been solid so far, though. So, ignore the Stephen Sommers garbage and embrace these new efforts from IDW. Between them and Sideshow, G.I. JOE ARAH is in good hands. Yo Joe!

Spoiler:... in order to protect his cover, Chuckles has to kill a captured Jinx by shooting her in the head point-blank.
