Ones for customizing the others for my collection but i cant decide if i should go fully movie accurate, re-doing the wings and the thrusters and guns, or just complimenting the fantastic design of this toy with a nice paintjob.
It almost seems a shame to cut it all up to make it movie accurate, thats why i cant decide.
Any thoughts?

That new possible IDW Prime could be cool. I don't think it looks too much like bayformers. It looks more of a G1 like prime although it is based on new designs.
What has always bothered me with bayformers designs is not that they aren't 100% (or even 90%) like G1-style, but that they don't really look transformers at all. :D

Since they just released MP-10 in the states, I find it hard to criticize Hasbro/Takara for doing a nu-Optimus figure. They satisfied me, and other G1 fans pretty well with that figure. Now, they can go on to their Bay-influenced Primes for another 2-3 years at least before I will direct my entitlement-fueled anger at them for not giving me another updated G1 figure :lol

How does it scale with some of the recent MP figures?

Glider? Not sure, actually.

Sideswipe, which I preordered ages ago, is tied up in the same order as MP Soundwave.

I never got an MP-10 or the Hasbro version, so the most recent MP figures I've actually got are the US version of Grimlock and MP-11 Starscream. I'll check when I go home, but my impression is that he'd scale well, since Hench and Weapons Specialist look perfect with Masterpieces, and he looks just fine with either of them.

Me neither. Frankly, with how Cosmos turned out, maybe they'll do the same sort of thing with Powerglide? Knowing that there's already a really dead-on G1 version out there (this), maybe... Or maybe it'll be a bit smaller, which would be nice. This one is as tall as some of the deluxes out there, which matches the cartoon a lot

Yeah, I'm thinking about selling or trading off that Cosmos, to be quite honest.

Even if we don't get a new one, I could see iGear releasing a darker green version at least.

Weird.

One thing I've never understood from Reprolabels is the option to make new figures look more like G1 toys... But then again, these are made for customizing, so you can leave off whatever stickers you want. :)

I've been meaning to pick up a few sets - they do look quite nice, for the most part.

Although I'm largely about G1 accuracy Powerglide is a character I'd also like to see made with the G1 aesthethic but scaled up to the MP Seeker molds.

The robot mode could be given the same kind of update in terms of detail & articulation that the other Masterpiece characters have had and the A-10 is a beast of a plane especially when given realistic proportions as opposed to the cartoony look of the original toy or that terrible CHUG mold.

A few years ago I saw a custom of Warpath that was made with the same kind of approach using various MP parts and a Tamiya model tank kit and it looked incredible.

I think Reprolabels work best when they're filling in gaps like the Martini logos on CHUG Jazz, adding G1 accurate wing stripes to the Takara or iGear versions of Masterpiece Skywarp, stuff like that.

Covering sculpted detail just for the extra nod to the original toy seems like overkill to me.

karamazov80,
My position on IDW Prime doesn't come from any entitlement related issue....it's more out of boredom with the character than anything else....it's not really that big of a deal as I have the only Prime I need and I'm cool with that.

Not buying the mass market stuff saves me some space and also frees up cash for the good stuff like the Masterpieces so Hasbro are actually doing me a favor with releases like that as it makes my decision making process simple.

Speaking of the good stuff Masterpiece Soundwave is getting closer to release, it will be awesome to get that one in hand and then the rest of the tapes over the following couple of months.

Are darker backgrounds harder to photograph?

I'm just getting into the whole "lightbox thing". I took some pics of a few TFs - I'll post them here after work.

I do have some pics of Sideshow's Crimson Guard up on my blog though - got any advice? :)

Go with neutral colors if you can. Or go with a background that compliments the color of your subject. I would advise against using anything that would throw off your white balance which could potentially alter the subject's actual appearance (in real life). That's why I get so frustrated with Rebelscum and Cool Toy Review, their blue background usually throws everything off. IMO of course.

excellent pics Deak :clap

they sell the figure well.

Thanks man! :wave

I actually use a black piece of cloth I got a walmart for abot $2. Ive been meaning to switch to a more grey brown similar to Deak Starkiller's background.

I started off with the black because I like the shadows and I like my photos sort of dark, but at the same time Ive been wanting to mess around with a lighter background. Deaks photos look really crisp and clean.

ArmoredFoe you take awesome pics.

I'm surprised Hasbro did not shorten the smokestacks on this one.

They actually move up and down, so I assume that's why they weren't NERF'd.

The IDW Prime is pretty cool IMO I think Don Figureoa did a great job on him.

This is also my favorite Optimus toy! Can't wait to see what you do with it!

Glad someone here still likes movie TF's. ;)

I think this is one of Hasbro's best toys, better than the ROTF leader Prime in every way thanks to the remolded parts, and the jetpack is just an awesome bonus. The buster gun is pretty awesome too, so glad it came with that.

Due to the ever decreasing space in my cabinets and on my shelves I moved a few later series characters in with my series 1 group,

A reshuffle every now and then is no bad thing and I've also managed to get the Coneheads off a dusty shelf and into a cabinet,

Damn, those coneheads look really nice!

Thank you sir! :hi5:

I present a new Seeker variant,

Obicracker!

:lol

You even have Obi-cracker posed for ultra slow lift-off like in IM1. :rotfl
Might there be a Starkswipe variant lurking about?

Congrats on getting Monger! :clap

Going through a box of older stuff, dug out the Voyager Ratchet from the first movie. I forgot how awesome this guy is, great vehicle mode, beefy bot mode, good articulation.

The Coneheads are VERY nice.

Given their respective characters I was thinking Starkstreaker would be more apt so I'll have to wait for the Masterpiece :lol

Iron Monger's detail, height & bulk is jaw dropping in person....even TFC Devastator looks a bit less imposing when stood next to it.
