Re: Star Wars live action series-Jon Favreau's THE MANDALORIAN

Yep, if you accept ROTJ then that opens the floodgates for a film like TLJ. TLJ was no more harmful to Luke's character than ROTJ was to Vader. But both films had awesome moments for each character (Vader tossing the Emperor, Endor funeral pyre, Luke/R2, Luke/Yoda, Luke standing against AT-AT's, Luke facing the twin suns one last time) in spite of any missteps so we accept them as legit entries in the Saga.

I disagree ROTJ was harmful to Vader, Luke being alive really started ****ing up vader toward the end of ESB, this is why he could not bring himself to kill him then when he had every chance too. Even Palpatine sensed the conflict within him prior to that meeting, but chose to ignore it which is why Snoke said it directly led to his downfall (and why he sent Ben Solo on a mission to kill all of his family members) Vader stopped being Vader really the moment the emperor informed him that the "rebel was the offspring of Anakin Skywalker". It triggered something in him, and from that moment forward he was conflicted, his focus went from rulling the galaxy with the Emperor to turning luke, killing the emperor, and rulling the galaxy as father and son-something he wanted to do with his wife back in ROTS. Family meant everything to Anakin. So it felt like a natural progression from the end of ESB to how he was in Jedi.

He was a ruthless bastard all the way through new hope (rogue one too), up until he learned he had a son that was alive. He started turning back at the end of Empire; Like ben was weakened for his love of his family (the need to kill the past), or as it is implied after killing his father, Luke weakened vader. The hate that consumed him began to dimish, he saw hope, he felt something that wasn't hate, and like Padma said there is still good in him, it just took his son to see it. Seeing his son in the flesh for the first time(ESB) really set him over the edge, which is why he could bring himself to kill Luke at the end of ESB. He had plenty of opportunites to off luke, he let the rebel ship land on endor when he knew luke was on it, instead of just nuking it out of the sky- Another example of his new plan which started way back in Empire for him to turn luke and rule as farther and son. Letting that ship land was a major threat to his empire, the structure he gave up everything for, the Vader we saw in rogue one or New Hope would have nuked it in a heartbeat-he wouldn't have thought twice about it.

Vader was still toying with luke during that final duel (as he was in empire except for that one moment he lost his temper). The moment he realized luke wasn't going to turn, and as he watched emperor nuking his son to death he chose his sons life over world domination. This is also why Bens goal is to let the past die, if he has any attachments, he can be pulled back to the light like his grandfather. He had to kill his father to rid himself of the weakness and let his mother die, that love for family, those attachments, led to vaders turn which actually begin once he learned his son was still alive. Vader just couldn't bring himself to kill Luke, his weakness was always his love for his family & even friends. Ironically it was love that turned him evil, and it was that same love that brought him back. ITs also ironic that love is forbidden by jedi, but it also love that saved the most ruthless sith lord in star wars lore. Love is the curse of the skywalker lineage, its how they bring balance to the force...and also serves as another example of how TLJ ruins the portrayal of Luke. Lukes love for his family and friends would never allow him to become so jaded to consider killing his newphew in his sleep, or to leave his sister or friends to fend for themselves when he knew they could be in great danger. He was willing to die for his father because of love. It was love that made him a great jedi!!! Love runs deep in the skywalker family, it was love the gave rise to both Luke & Leia, its what sets them apart from other jedi- and also what led to downfall of the old order- forbidding love and attachment- which ironically is the same thing that's going to save the order going forward.

Why is there any talk of hating/defending TLJ in every damn thread? Can’t we just have separation of these things?

Re: Star Wars live action series-Jon Favreau's THE MANDALORIAN

Sure what would you like to talk about then in a thread about a show that is more than a year away with no casting announcements or plot line synopsis and only 2 official photos released lol

Umm that’s a very long gun.

Oh crap someone already mentioned that it’s from the old cartoon disregard. :gah:

Umm Rian Johnson and his producer lover need to stay the hell away from this show. :lol

Might have plenty more info soon. Apparently, there are reports of a theft of expensive and important equipment from the set of the show. Rumors swirling now that one of the things taken could be a memory drive with key plot points and info. Here's one of the articles about the theft:

Sorry, I need to make one last TLJ reference. When I saw yet more fan service with the gun, I thought...

Shame this didn't happen to TLJ.

I'm starting to agree with you, Prime. There comes a point where LFL should stop trying to connect everything back to the OT era. It's too much like a crutch. And sometimes the fan service serves no constructive purpose whatsoever.

Also, I just read the Boba Fett movie is no longer in production. Guess we’re getting The Mandalorian instead.

(But I still reckon he’ll turn out to be a regurgitated Boba!)

He could always be the last Jango template Clone the Kaminoans created. Maybe they left him unaltered, as well?:dunno

Hopefully we learn Boba lost his armor gambling just before the sail barge incident.

Yeah once he noticed that his jetpack and targeting systems were on the fritz he sold them off to an up and coming bounty hunter called "Screamin' Joe."
