Re: Wonder Woman - June 23, 2017

Like BvS and SS, regardless at how much bad press this movie gets, I will see it eventually, but because of WB's current history, I have no faith that this movie will be any better than it's predecessors.

Re: Wonder Woman - June 23, 2017

Well you can get a pretty good idea of what to expect, usually. Because, as Evilface alludes to, you go on the track record and extrapolate what is likely to come next. The next Transformers movie could be an amazing, Oscar-worthy film, rivaling There Will Be Blood. Probably won't be, though :D

So you never know what is coming, but you get an idea that feeds into expectations, and tells you whether you should bother seeing a movie to begin with. I actually had pretty high expectations for Suicide Squad until I started hearing all the negative word of mouth, because I think Ayer has done some really good work, and the actors are all pretty good there. Unfortunately, whether it's studio interference, Ayer having a miss, or something else, that movie didn't connect with me at all.

Thats why i said its all personal tastes. I loved Suicide Squad. I connected with it. It felt like the comic books to me. I never thought it would be TDK level or anything. I dont expect WW to be either but i love the character and the actress and the trailers looked amazing to me. I loved BvS too. Not everyone did, so whatever...

All of my friends loved Deadpool, many saw it several times. I thought it was awful and my wife fell asleep. Same with IM3. Most of my friends loved it, i didn't. Most people on here didn't like Suicide Squad, but I did.

I feel people need to judge movies, music, and art for themselves and rely less on what others think.

Re: Wonder Woman - June 23, 2017

I liked SS, but thought it should have been much better give the talent involved. Nothing makes me want to see it again.

Though the character has been the but end of a joke his entire existence, I'm looking forward to Aquaman because of James Wan.

And Flash. I love the TV Flash. Gustin is really good in the show, even during it's ups and down. But just that little segment in the JL teaser, Ezra Miller was pretty kewl as well.

Cyborg. He better yell all the time like Teen Titans Go!

While I somewhat agree, what you're describing is something different entirely. You can't follow the DCEU (or let alone any EU ficks) track records because they're individually helmed by different groups of fish in the same pond.

Transformers 1 is the same IP as the other Transformers flicks.

Same cast (for the most part)
Same director
Same characters etc.

You can follow it's track record.

BvS was directed by Snyder
SS directed by Ayer
WW directed by Jenkins.

They all have different characters and worlds to make their own vision of. Movies like transformers, fast and the furious, mission impossible etc don't.

I feel people need to judge movies, music, and art for themselves and rely less on what others think.

so many people went into SS thinking it sucks because of the negative reviews. that influences the audience's minds.

"this movie is going to suck because that's what everyone else thinks."

stop bein' sheep, says I.

I went into SS with and open mind just as I did with BVS but in each I was disappointed. The stories in both left a lot to be desired.

nuh uh.

Ok, I finally have time to watch SS tonight. Please tell me it's better than Catwoman, Elektra, Batman and Robin, and the F4 movie. I've been hearing so much bad about this movie, the only positives have been in here.

:wave

Even when the director is the same the movies can be different. Like for me, Winter Soldier is a masterpiece. But Civil War was a disappointment for me. All the Marvel movies since WS have been disappointments for me although i haven't seen Dr. Strange yet. But i go into each looking forward to them. Ill keep seeing the Marvel films of course. And i don't bash people for liking those films either.

Yes, way too many sheep. :lol

I haven't seen Strange yet either, I'm just fatigued from Marvel stuff, it's almost been 10 years since it's started.

I usually skip out on the Thors' and catch them later, but all the other MCU flicks I've seen on the big screen, Strange just didn't keep that pull going.

I am all in for any comic book film, although DC is my favorite universe. I still want to see them all. Some are better than others for me. Some i never want to see again. Others I buy the BluRays and Figures of.

But to read that some blogger reporting so & so's cousin who knows someone is saying WW sucks, i just pay no attention to as far as my expectations for a film. My only expectations these days is that I expect anonymous bloggers to post negative click bait stories and people will fall for them. They have a 50/50 shot of them coming true. But thats the nature of journalism these days. its all click bait instead of good stories all to get page hits on their sites, FB, Twitter, etc.

The only stories i tend to read are interviews with people working on the films, actors, directors, etc. A lot even then gets pulled out of context, but sometimes they are interesting.

Re: Wonder Woman - June 23, 2017

I'll see it because parts of it looked interestin' in the trailers.
And because I would be able to talk about it afterwards...
And it's a good enough reason to go outside in this terrible weather. :lol

loved suicide squad

That's actually why my initial expectations for Suicide Squad were high. I thought maybe the director could overcome those powerful (and terrible) studio forces at WB that, with the exception of the Nolan stuff, have made pretty or very bad comic movies going back to the mid-1990s. Unfortunately, now I know that I should factor the studio in much more strongly. And at this point, the onus is on any WB movie to prove my expectations wrong. I am essentially writing off the Snyder movies. He just doesn't get it. I suspect WB's execs will learn from Suicide Squad 1 that audiences want more of the same from the sequel, so again I don't think that is something I will get much out of. Wonder Woman or Aquaman could do well, but I'm cautiously pessimistic for the reasons I outline above, and because the "dark and gritty" type approach doesn't really fit these characters IMO. Batman is still a pretty open question. If you say Affleck and Terrio are in charge, that sounds great on its surface. . .but many said Terrio was sent in to save BvS, and that felt very much like a Snyder/Goyer film to me. So maybe his screenwriting skills don't translate to superhero movies. Or maybe the studio reared its ugly head again. . .or maybe he just didn't have a lot to work with. Who knows for sure? But if there is any DC franchise that I would have a sliver of optimism for, given what we know now, it would be Batman. If for no other reason than Affleck has good taste and ability, and won't want to embarrass himself if he can help it.

Re: Wonder Woman - June 23, 2017

Alice through the looking glass was not that bad.
I think it was less annoying that the first one.

There was a lot of time travel but it was fun to see the younger versions of mad hatter and red queen and white queen.
It was fun to see how they lived before the queen took over.
I hated the first one a lot but this one felt more fun and less dark, the time guy was funny.

That movie also had some elements of the american mcgee Alice game which was nice

Re: Wonder Woman - June 23, 2017

Loved SS and yes TDKR- to me these "failures" are 100X more interesting and thought-provoking than just about ANY MCU film

Re: Wonder Woman - June 23, 2017

What exactly was thought-provoking in Suicide Squad?

Harley's ass? Harley's "Lap-Dance"? And, um... Nope, that's it for me. I got nothing else... Oh! Add Harley's dressing up scene!
