Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

Ok so I loved the reflective aspect of the symbol of hope for man of steel so this is what I came up with and did the gauntlet repaint as well. I apologize for the blurry pics, just took them on my phone as the camera is broke.

For those interested, the symbol was done with a light layer of tamiya clear red to darken first, then a mixture of createx pearlized red and tamiya flat aluminum with some createx transparent red to get the right tint of metallic red I wanted. The pearlized by itself came out too pink. This was done with multiple applications of dry brushing.

Gauntlets were done with a mixture of testors pearlized blue and Tamiya flat aluminum dry brushed in light layers as well. Ofcourse all paints were acrylic as these plastics are too soft to attempt enamels.

So what do you guys think? It was hard to try and capture the reflectiveness of the symbol with out the light glare, so I took one without the light on and I think you can really see how well it reflects even with the light off!!!

nice pic vodoun if my darn camera wasn't broken I would try taking a pic like that with my light box and use a side light. But this is about the best I can do for now with just a stupid smart phone camera:slap

Great pic Vodoun.

Amazing pics.
Now remind me what you did to that Barney ross top? I recall you mentioned paint for the collar.
Was it bleach or dye for the rest?

Thank you! I Bleached it, and then had to use Rit color remover to make it the off white color.. Then I had to paint the collar area and buttons (didn't bleach, was still black) and sleeves with ivory Plaid brand acrylic paint.

looks nice man. thanks for the tips, I think I might try it on my custom. Also since you went that far with the gauntlets and symbol. Did you ever think of working on the stripes , belt and collar as well. That's what I did worked wonders on my custom IMO.

Pretty cool Guyver.
Which color/brand did you use on the golden color belt?

I had to experiment. I had to first completely cover it with flat black, then dry brushed gold because just using gold on it made it too yellow IMO because of the base yellow used. But the gold really becomes more subtle if you lighten the stripes like I did, other wise again IMO the factory black stripes make the gold too yellow in appearance.
