Re: Weta Workshop Comic-Con Exclusive Thorin Statue

Assuming I have the money I'll get them all from gg too. :lol

Re: Weta Workshop Comic-Con Exclusive Thorin Statue

I will most likely get all 13 drwarves, but in bust form (IF GG does them all) to cut down on the $$ (and space issue) a bit and only get a few statues of the iconic characters (Thorin, Bilbo, Smaug (?), Beorn, Bard (?)). Won't get a Gandalf....I have enough of him to last through 5 more LOTR/Hobbit sequels/prequels. :rotfl

Passing on Gandalf? :horror

:wave

Re: Weta Workshop Comic-Con Exclusive Thorin Statue

Fellowship=13 dwarves, you know I never thought of it that way since the dwarves are largely supportive.

Obviously, some don't see it that way but to this story they're as important IMO.

Re: Weta Workshop Comic-Con Exclusive Thorin Statue

Why moan about the cost of 13? Well maybe people do want all 13 but not for 3800 dollars. 13*200<13*275.

Your use of emoticons doesn't come off well, by the way.

You're right, i apologize. My emotions and passion for collecting get the better of me sometimes :peace

Re: Weta Workshop Comic-Con Exclusive Thorin Statue

Something I'll remind people because I keep seeing folks on the net get upset. This isn't the only Thorin Weta will be making in this statue line. This item will include what I expect is a shield like the previous shields that Weta has produced. There will be a Thorin put up in October that doesn't include the shield. So fans are not getting a raw deal in not being able to acquire a Weta Thorin statue.

This clarification needs to obviously be passed on to some folks. That way Weta doesn't catch any unneeded flack.

Re: Weta Workshop Comic-Con Exclusive Thorin Statue

Ah, if the shield isn't part of the statue, but on a stand like previous Weta shields, that won't be so bad. But if it's a part of the statue, i can see why people will be upset.

I do think the first option is what's going to be the case. I don't see how with that pose a shield fits in.

Thorin_Exclusive1.jpg

The first in a range of 1:6 scale polystone statues.
US$249 – Limit 2 per person
This limited edition collection will have a run of 700 pieces, 500 of which will be available for purchase at San Diego Comic-Con. (The remaining 200 statues will be reserved for sale in October at the Weta Cave in New Zealand and at Ring*Con in Germany.)
*Note there will be a separate version, without shield, available at www.wetaNZ.com in October 2012

i assume the photo is the regular version without the shield, not the sdcc version? since he doesnt have a shield?

I think the shield is going to be like the shields Weta sells. Not a switch out part like Sideshow is known to do.

Re: Weta Workshop Comic-Con Exclusive Thorin Statue

Anybody wondering if Weta might miss out any of the main dwarves from this upcoming line? It would be a shame to do most and leave out two or three.

Re: Weta Workshop Comic-Con Exclusive Thorin Statue

Once upon a time statues like these (Elessar, Theoden, etc.) used to cost $125.

Seems like ages ago!

I hope everyone who likes these can get them. I just can't afford to collect everything, and I'm not using the old credit card to buy them anymore (like I used too). So, I'll admire them through collectors pictures. And, I'll stay focused on the 1 - 2 lines I am collecting.

:peace

Yeah, I remember people being upset about those prices. People now are going to do the same thing and at somepoint it does become to much for some. Can't fault anyone for having a line in the sand but nobody should expect prices of 10 years ago to be the price today.

*Not saying you do Allan

oh then it doesnt matter that much which version then, i thought it was attached to the statue...

Yeah, I'm not saying I do. It's just I can remember myself holding back from ordering the Morgul Lord on Fell Beast because it was $150. :lol

Now it's like, I wish these pieces of today cost $150. :rotfl

No, I don't think that will be the case at all. It could be but based on the picture I don't think so.
---------------

Also, something else to think about people worrying about the shield is that I expect this at some point will be sold separately so you can get it if you so choose.

I'd love it if these statues and stuff were $150. :rock

Re: Weta Workshop Comic-Con Exclusive Thorin Statue

Josh, that's a solid idea and makes total sense about the shield. Whoever wrote that press release mucked it up a bit or underestimated how the fans dissect every bit and detail. I thought maybe the shield was slung on Thorin's back but that is basically a new sculpt.

I think for me I rationalize some of SS's price increases because they have upped their game with more detailed bases, larger scales, soft goods, etc. Now to ME this piece looks just like all the old material. I am not judging the paint and sculpt on these, some were good, some less so. It just looks like Thorin hasn't "evolved" and I think this is exactly what Weta wanted, and some fans as well - a seamless collection of SSW LOTR and Weta Hobbit 1:6 statues on black bases. Me? I don't know yet.

Right it would be something totally different. I could be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time mind you) but I feel safe saying that the shield will be like the other shields. As with anything could things be written better? Sure, I always look back at things and think I wish I would have worded that differently. However, I think what we're seeing is a MAJOR over reaction by some fans. There are some perks in going to an event like SDCC besides being there, and its not like fans are never going to be able to get Thorin. Also, most likely its not like they won't ever be able to get the shield.

It looks great to me. I love the look and feel of it and it does remind me of the SSW line which I have no problems with.

Re: Weta Workshop Comic-Con Exclusive Thorin Statue

I'm really liking this first The Hobbit statue from Weta. Gives you a bit of insight on what the future pieces would look like. That's true, these Hobbit figures would blend seamlessly with the SSW LOTR figures. Good job by Weta sticking to the same plain, black bases (though this one is circular, rather than oval). But I like that they have etched Thor's Map on it (I think that's what it looks like), just like with the LOTR bases having the Map of Middle Earth. :rock

Re: Weta Workshop Comic-Con Exclusive Thorin Statue

Indeed! I like that they went with the map design on the base as well. Very cool!
