Re: Ski's GI JOE Customs etc...

That scrap iron looks already damn nice.
I just can't stop looking at your rocket launcher.
You will have to build one for me!

I had Scrap not even finished standing there with no hands no head and next to his rocket launcher and I wanted to pose him next to Firefly and Storm Shadow :rotfl

I got a pro body for Scrap today and to all my excitement it's broken at the hip from it's shipment :monkey2 :banghead

Re: Ski's GI JOE Customs etc...

Scraps looks good. I'd darken the blue suit a bit to make it a little different than the troopers.

Re: Ski's GI JOE Customs etc...

I was thinking about then I put him up to a regular trooper and the vintage figs were the same color but I think I'm going to do it anyways to distinguish them, I was debating on it!

Thanks Evil :rock

Re: Ski's GI JOE Customs etc...

You did some awesome part hunting on Scrap Iron, Ski :rock He's looking damn nice!

Yeah and I found some wine colored dyed that matched his boots perfectly :rock

I'm glad you like what I got on him so far. :D

Take that as a HUGE compliment Skiman! Elvis himself wants YOU to make him something! That doesn't happen everyday :rock

I am honored, he is the best and I'm trying to do my best. Now I need to learn how to sculpt and paint these heads, I'm determined :rock

Re: Ski's GI JOE Customs etc...

Ver 2.0 Bludd, loving it much better than protocol Bludd :lol

Slight smudge with the Black Firm applied to eyebrow but haven't but on facial tone which will more than likely cover it. Will add back hair firm and ears as will along with facial tones and last that eye.

Re: Ski's GI JOE Customs etc...

Nice work on your sculpts! In response to an earlier suggestion to use water to smooth the sculpt I'd say instead use alcohol; I use 90%. Just use it to brush out imperfections and smooth lines. It dries quickly as well which means you won't end up with droopy areas.

Also, not sure what you are doing about eyes. But using BB, airsoft pellets, or rolling small balls of sculpy and baking them make sculpting the details around an eyeball much easier.

You're off to a great start :rock

Thank you very much for the info Gboy, yeah I've been using what they call is a spoon or lacing tool in order to do the eyes but I'll definitely give the tips a try. Do you just bake the small bits of rolled sculpey for just a little bit so you can still make changes to it or let them hard in order for you to chisel?

Do you cover the BB's with sculpey as well?

Re: Ski's GI JOE Customs etc...

I don't cover them... as its a smooth surface and you can just paint directly onto them. And if you make your own you want to bake them solid; which doesn't take long since they are so small.

What it looks like with airsoft:

I will usually pre-bake stuff that has a rigid (like teeth, eyeballs) shape and will work in stages so that new sculpting doesn't damage old. For instance I'll sculpt the face, then bake, sculpt the ears, then bake and then do hair.

I totally did this last night, I did the hair with colored firm and today I might do the ears it makes a word of difference without smudging the rest that is all ready in place the way you like it.

Great tips G, I really do appreciate it! I started watching tutorials this weekend to try to improve on what I've done and it's really helping.

Re: Ski's GI JOE Customs etc...

You'll be amazed how quickly you'll improve, and honestly you are doing quite well for this being your first attempts. Mine were not even close :lol

Re: Ski's GI JOE Customs etc...
