Who wants Hot Toys Star Trek figures?

The problem with Trek is similar to the problem with X-Men -- it is an ensemble, and maybe to even a greater degree. If you buy into The Dark Knight ... you only need Batman, Joker and maybe Two-Face. If you buy into Superman or Indiana Jones, you can get away with just the title character. 24 or Die Hard -- you're fine with Bauer or McClane.

But, with Trek, there's just too much source matieral. You'd need Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty and Sulu just for starters. If you branch into TNG era, you're looking at 10-15 figures minimum (Picard, Riker, Data, Worf, Geordi ... etc., etc.). That's even before getting into people's niche favorites -- Q, Locutus, 7 of 9, Lore, Rand, Gorn, Khan, Nero, Borg Queen -- and costume variants.

It may just be too much of a commitment. Even the most die hard are unlikely to spend $3000 on Trek figures -- and I'm not sure Hot Toys wants to embark on such a spree of figures.

That being said, I would likely buy a few Trek figures if they were ever to release some from Trek 11 ... but I doubt it'll ever happen.

Wrath of Khan would be the best way to go for Hot Toys.
It's still the best Star Trek movie IMO

I don't see why they'd release figures from a 25-year-old movie when a new, very popular, one came out just last year.

That's true as well... I would buy 3-4 figures per series tops. There are a lot I'd want, but realisitically I'd focus on main characters and a few aliens here and there.

Uh, 'cause it's a classic?

But yeah, you're right, they'd probably go with the new movie first. If popular, maybe they'd go down the TNG and '80s film characters.

This is exactly my thinking aswell. It would be a massive commitment both for HT and the collector, especially at the prices a HT figure costs these days. It seems hugely unlikely HT would take it on. They couldn't possibly make everything that people would want and yet, perhaps moreso than any other line, there could be a terrible feeling of incompleteness if only a select bunch of Enterprise crew were made.

The other problem with Star Trek is the ships and ship interiors are a huge part of it and you most definitely wouldn't be seeing those in 1/6th.

That said I agree that the likes of TWOK Spock and Kirk would be hard to pass on, as well as Worf, Picard and Data from First Contact maybe. But of course if I bought those I'd feel compelled to buy the others if made. And thats a whole lot of money already. Selfishly I hope HT doesn't even consider Star Trek figures.

The problem with Hot Toys and ANY Star Trek, is I don't see them producing the full crew from any series.

Classic and Abrahms Trek, I see Spock, McCoy and Kirk being it, I'd like those guys, but at the same time, I'd like to at minimum have the full crew.

TNG, we'd likely get Picard, Data and Worf, I say those over Riker's rank because Warf has the fun of sculpt and paint over a normal human, and HT'd probably go to town with exposing electronics on Data. Again though, I'd enjoy them, but I'd be wishing they did more of the crew.

Hot Toys is a great figure maker, but they aren't line makers, not in the sense of a big assortment of characters, they make some full lines but often filled with variants. TDK has 7 figures, but 3 characters, Iron Man has many figures, but 1 character, Terminator Salvation has a number of figures but only really 4 characters.

I think any property, like's been mentioned, where you can get away with a title character or there are 1 or 2 other characters that would be great and all you need, HT is a great solution, once you get beyond 2-3 characters, they become less and less a good solution, especially as often, characters you would think would be seen as highly relevant to a series are left out. You do POTC without Barbossa

Is that what those are? Drove me crazy every time I watched that movie.

Yep. While imprisoned on Rura Penthe, the Klingon guards recognized Nero as a strong and formidable prisoner, and they forced him to fight a guard dog. The dog tore into the side of Nero's head (evidenced by the bite marks and missing fragment of his upper ear lobe), but Nero in turn ripped out the dog's canine teeth and jammed them back into the animal's cranium, killing it. It's in the "Nero" prequel graphic novel. I highly, highly recommend it, as well as "Countdown".

Yeah, you'll notice at the beginning his ear is fine, then it's messed up later. There was a deleted scene where the Narada crew were captured by the Klingons and interrogated, and Nero later uses the same technique on Pike. I loved the look they had for the Klingons, they were somewhere between TOS and TNG but more..."evil" looking and with colored eyes.

I wish the scenes with the Klingons were kept in; they really helped flesh out the story of Nero's Romulan fighters and what they had been through in the interim period waiting for Spock to arrive. I realize why they were taken out since it would have deviated from the main storyline a bit, but still highly enjoyable.

Yeah its still the best film. Though I also really enjoyed Generations and First Contact. Then Voyager started putting the borg in every episode and completely demystified them and took away their threat.

I'd love to see the Borg in JJ Star Trek. Afterall, in the backstory, isn't Nero's ship modified with Borg tech?
Yeah ST II will always be my favourite Trek film. Its beautiful. As iconic characters go, Shat, Nimoy etc in that era's outfits are iconic.

I loved the whole 'space navy' feel about it. The uniforms seem the most realistic of any Star trek uniform theres ever been IMO. There was still some awe about the Enterprise, something as simple as Kirk boarding the ship and their exiting space-dock was just so cool. (although Trek III's space dock sequence was cooler) Something that bothered me about later Trek is that you never got the impression that these ships ever 'returned to port', they seemed like they were the property of the ships captain and he could just take them wherever he wanted.

Another huge plus II has in its favour is James Horners music. I hate that they've never got him back to score a Trek film and that music hasn't been heard since Star Trek III. Definitely one of the best film soundtracks of all time. Really epic and evocative of space and this 'space navy' I mentioned.

Horner's 'Battle in the Mutara Nebula' from Star Trek II sums up all of Trek for me. Amazing music, it really brings that feeling of space adventure together.

And the track called Surprise Attack and the one called Kirk's explosive reply, Enterprise Clears Moorings, Genesis Countdown and the Epilogue. Theres not many dull moments on that soundtrack album.
