Yeah, the Medicom is awesome. Still not perfect, but the best attempt yet.

Until this arrives at least:

What a gorgeous little fella!

Neca's skull seems to fill up the dome more, whereas Medicom's doesn't so much. For some reason Medicom's has pronounced cheek bones.

I do think the medicom one is good but it has that anime sculpture obsession with making everything super smooth. (Like sheva's hair...:()

It takes a few minutes to let all the discrepancies appear.
HT "missed" even something as obvious as the piping on the shoulders which they just generalised as simple line.

It's difficult to tell with the angle of the HT chap but the shape of the dome does seem to have been captured best by Medicom, even if their tip is quite pointy.

Funny actually how all of them have difficulty capturing the shape of the lips of the collar...?:huh

Have to admit I’ve been avoiding this thread over the weekend, apart from a tertiary glance on mod duties, just too tedious!
But that last batch of pics made me sit up a bit more. Made me realise how lucky we are.
I actually had the old Kenner one when I was a kid. I remember seeing shelves of them in my local Zodiac Toys (discount toyshop when I was young, long defunct now) I bought it for 99p... oh the irony. I kept it for years then swapped it for some Star Wars stuff (damn you George Lucas and your insidious marketing towards impressionable 13 year olds).
So for a long time I had no ALIEN!
Then I got the Hasbro ones after a visit to ALIEN WAR at the Trocadero in London, it seemed after that the floodgates opened a bit and I picked up quite a few various models. One of my faves is the Palisades bust... not accurate by 'fan-boy' standards, but it's nice and creepy.

All I'm saying is I love Gigers design, and from what I can see we have a lot to be thankful for these days.
I'll let 'most of you' get back to feeling unhappy now. Enjoy!

My main objection to the Neca is that it seems to have had some really bad dental work.

Your positive attitude is commendable Wookster, but I hope your enthusiasm won't switch off your critical faculties when it comes to your review. I wasted £130 on the Aliens Warrior, mainly because of your glowing review! ;)

Gulp... I hope so too.

Nah, I'm not blind, I can see it's not perfect, and I'm a bit of an articulation junky so I have my concerns there as well.
And in response to the ALIENS warrior, both my classic and brown are still in one piece (so far), but looking back I can see they had a few shortcomings... OK, maybe more than a few. In design terms though it was my very least favourite design for the creature after the AvP:R monstrosity.
I shall be comparing him alongside my Giger ALIEN design and Film design books. But I freely admit I like what I've seen so far.

I do think I got a particularly bad specimen. Ironically I still really like the look of the Aliens Warrior, perhaps because it's not such an iconic design, so an impressionist approach didn't bother me so much. It did look damn cool before it fell apart. Sob!

PS - do you think you might review the Revoltech Alien when it comes out?

Lets be realistic ... It's not proof that Hot Toys should have modelled the figure on that particular suit... It's 'possibly' one of the dozen or more suits they produced -- none of them had the same mouth/throat/tendon design ... no two suits were assembled the same ... Any hardcore 'fan' would be well aware of that fact. I have a bunch of similar profile shots of the 'production' and prototype suits etc. ... I'll scan them from my books when I get the chance ... Anyone can do some in-depth research for themselves ... if they care enough to do so. You'll inevitably come to the same conclusions that I have.

At least someone here is old enough to remember the days when we could only dream of owning figures like these ... Kids these days are spoilt rotten with choice ... Bless 'em ... Appologys if I brang the 'tone' of the thread down for you.

I rilly, rilly want one, so maybe. Do we know how much they are yet?

Not yet, but then I usually just buy Revoltechs at the cheapest GBP price I can on eBay, so I don't really now how much they are normally. About $25 though I think.

Dude, I was born in 1974 and I remember the Kenner Alien very fondly.

I also remember that it had a more accurate head sculpt than the Hot Toys one.

Edit: I mean look at it, it's still awesome:

It's not about being spoiled. It's about a missed opportunity. It's just frustrating to me that Hot Toys' figures are such high quality in so many respects, and so low quality in others.

Predanator, at no point in the movie did the ALIEN look like the HT version. Quit acting stubborn, we can all see you're just looking for excuses now and it's fooling no one. Bringing up your job title was ridiculous! Flashing your career achievements is irrelevant to the discussion.

Sabres and abake provided photo evidence and comparison pictures for what they think the ALIEN should have looked like, and you dispel them because many suits were used in the movie. However, you have yet to provide ANYTHING yourself besides excuses to kiss up to Hot Toys.

I don't want to get personal because this is a hobby we all care for; however, your posts sure seem to be taking an arrogant route.
If you say the HT alien looks accurate to you, then PROVE it! At this point, any sane person will side with Sabres and abake because you have yet to disprove their examples of how it should look. More over, if you were simply stating that you liked the figure, all would have been fine. But, stating that it's accurate, and in doing so misleading others... isn't.

Even the Palisades bust in Wook's post looks more like the creature in the movie. All that aside, THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT, and the majority of us here can see it's not accurate. So, HT caters to us, NOT the other way around. (Business 101) Especially not at the $130 price range. I'm sure even they would side with abake and Sabres at this point.

We can see through your guise, so please stop.
If you think we are wrong, please disprove us with EVIDENCE and not just 1st grade school yard "did not, did too" bickering. I'd gladly agree with you and retract everything I said if you can provide evidence for your claims that this figure looks accurate to the source material.

I cant believe you used the word "spoiled".
Guess you're "spoiled" too for wanting a seat belt and airbags in your car.
Wake up and welcome to 2010!

Hey Wookster, maybe you could add this into your comparison pic?

What I'll do is take a good side pic of my HT one when it get here and pics of my McFarlane and sega ones as well (as long as I can find them, they're in storage right now), then do a comp of all of them for the review.
