I can't say I fully agree with this, I have Asmus DMC5 Dante and he looks better in person than in photos to me.

I’m waiting to see more photos before ultimately cancelling, but horrendous jacket aside, I’m really struggling with those dead eyes. That was the only thing I didn’t like about the prototype.

InArt’s Aragorn was $335 at OSK, I paid $300 for Claire at Monkey Depot. I just don’t know if the glaring issues warrant the money. I don’t think I can justify keeping it knowing there’s other figures I want on the way soon too.

Welp, just got invoiced from kghobby. Not too sure I want it anymore sadly. Got a few days to mull it over I suppose. Sucky thing is the preorder is based on images that initially look great, but then vastly become altered in some aspect. They do put that fine print disclaimer about how it might change from prototype to production but good grief, $300+ is a lot to drop on something that looks "okay" by comparison to what looked great.

I still like it very much and appreciate the real leather. I wonder how the people who complain about the jacket would display the fig after the jacket has crumbled away in a couple of years? Which we all know is going to happen.

I'm just sitting here waiting for DAM to announce some sort of replacement program. But with my luck, shortly after I cancel my order, and subsequently my Ada order, DAM will announce a replacement program. Or say that a replacement jacket is coming with the Ada figure.

I don't know how long I'm willing to wait though ... considering it's extremely unlikely to happen.

So your choice is figure that looks bad from day 1 or figure that looks bad in a few years (depending on climate and other conditions).

They could have scaled the jacket properly, they just didn’t, “but at least it’s not pleather” isn’t a good excuse imo.

Honestly, the only thing that bugs me is the jacket. So, she just won’t wear it. I know it sucks, but oh well. I’ve seen so much worse on other figures (some of them from the Almighty Hot Toys).

Even if they don't do anything with the jacket (which they probably won't), it would be nice if they could at least drop the price. $415 cad is just insane for a figure like this. I guess leather is still expensive even in 1/6 scale.

It's really not as common as people talk about with pleather. Every single pleather figure out there doesn't crumble upon release when put on display. People talk about it as if it's a worldwide phenomenon that happens to every single pleather out there. You have to be living in some super humid or harsh weather conditions for it to really happen. Of course, there are exceptions to it with some figures and releases handling worse than others but it's not as crazy as people make it out to be. Been collecting 15+ years and haven't had a single pleather outfit fall apart and I live in NY where we get all 4 weather conditions throughout the year.

Regardless, real leather isn't really the answer unless if the company knows how to apply and use it correctly. Just look at PresentToys. A third party company using real leather on their figures and yet it doesn't look overly scaled and awkward. It's nice that DAM tried here but for a figure that's $300+, the end result should have looked WAY better. Especially when you have a company doing a better job with it on a $200 full leather outfit figure. Just look at how much nicer PresentToys does with their use of leather than DamToys. It's night and day difference.

New real leather garments will usually need to be worn in, conditioned, to make it look good. I guess it will take too much effort to do this for Damtoys and the worn in leather's shape, because the process is done manually, may not appeal to everyone. I think AJ's pictures do show what a little fuzzing can do to improve the looks of the jacket.

I think one of the joy of collecting sixth scale, instead of statues, is that we can fuzz around with the figure to improve the looks, thus I am proceeding with my order

Anyway, I live in the tropical region so flaking pleather is a real issue as I had witness EVERYTHING with fake leather, flaking within a few years

Figured it was their leather work but I guess it's also not surprising with how they are.

In that case, all the more reasons for these companies to avoid real leather if the end result is gonna look terrible. Companies have stuck with pleather or any other fake leather for a reason. It's hard for it to look right in 1/6 scale.

Real/genuine leather on figures also tend to look a bit thicker.

Like the HT DX10 leather compared to the DX13 pleather or MMS pleather jacket... the DX10 just doesn't look as good as the pleather.

Yeah no kidding, we really have to watch out where we order this stuff from.
I've been really lucky so far from sites like OneSixthkit, Giantoy, KGH and SUgo Toys. I haven't had any import charges from them...yet.
I've started ordering from A3U and Imagination Hobby whenever I'm looking to get the more expensive stuff, like Hot Toys. One is located in BC, the other in Montreal, so I would assume they wouldn't have import charges. Plus they both have a rewards system too, which is always a bonus. And Imagination Hobby has a payment plan feature too I believe, though you need to contact them about it.

I live in Czechia, not really humid enviroment and all my collectibles are in temperature controlled room the whole year, without any sun. Even then - All and I cant stress it enough ALL figures with pleather parts are eighter damaged or completely crumbled.

And that present toys blade is awful comparsion. Its a third party (without licence so It already should be cheaper) and they're stealing old hot toys sculpts so that makes it even bigger cheapness. + its still a proto, their real leather production Indy is even worse in regard of the jacket thickness.
