Soooo …. The latest on FB is that a delay in production of Kolinar Spock from a 3rd party production has caused cancellation of TMP characters beyond Kirk, Spock and McCoy with only 3 years left of the 5 year mission.

At this point, I'm not sure if anything I wanted will come out. If it does great, otherwise life goes on.

Confidence seems to be waning on this 5 year mission.

Personally I wouldnt have Expected or intended to go beyond those three for myself but some of you guys have been asking for third babe in the silver mini-skirt on the right and TOS Lt. Leslie.

I think the Wrath of Khan trinity will eventually come out, but figures from The Cage don't seem likely anymore, even though we've seen prototypes.

I hope I'm wrong, but he's already talking about cutting The Motion Picture line down to 3 figures.

Well I think, like with everything with collecting, that patience is a virtue. In the same day, it appears as though Tasha Yar is back on as a potential figure. Nanjin obviously has a plan so will be interesting to see how the next few years will pan out.

Nanjin just posted that due to unexpected production delays, the TMP line will have to be limited to just Kirk, Spock and McCoy now. Which means no chance of an Ilia unfortunately.

His revised artwork was sadly prophetic.

I hate to say it, because I 100% love the figures Nanjin puts out but I find I feel like his statements don't really track. So now he was planning a deeper line of TMP (but that's gone south because of yet again somebody else)? I thought he'd always been pretty explicit that this was going to be a really limited line in terms of quantities and characters (just the big 3). I seem to recall (and forgive me if I'm remembering this wrong) that people had hoped that TMP characters like Ilia might get produced but that the market couldn't sustain that? I dunno - maybe I'm getting confused. But 2022 just feels like a weird year from the TOS/TNG side, with lots of strange declarations of how other parties have delayed him from delivering these crews. It was only a few weeks ago when he was saying QMX had somehow trashed the TOS + TNG market, which I still don't understand. Even accepting that somehow they screwed up TOS, how did producing one Picard figure (absolutely years ago) mess up the market for TNG crews and mean a big delay that has to be repaired by him releasing VOY, DISCO, DS9 and ENT first? As I say, I love the product and have been waiting 40 years for movie era TOS figures and am ready to line up with my wallet to support those, as well as TOS, TNG, ENT or SNW...but I gotta be honest I find it really hard to keep up with Nanjin's statements and weekly histrionics (which seem to have migrated from this more private board to general social media). Just lots of weird statements that sometimes feel like he's endlessly teasing big hitters like TOS and TNG. but not really delivering them. Back in April during the big reveal of his "photon torpedoes" weren't we supposed to be getting Kruge, TWK Spock and Bones, Anson Mount Pike, and Riker - all this year? Instead we get the totally unannounced Chakotay? Nothing against Chakotay and genuinely happy for all VOY fans...but I can't really fathom Nanjin's game. Sorry for the long rant. I really love the product. Just becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of TNG and TOS crews.

Based on my understanding of his sometimes kryptic posts, he had a somewhat planned release schedule for the major figures in each series/film/line and would be inserting less iconic figures in-between those, in a limited release, in order to provide a greater variety of figures within those lines. I've always thought that was a pretty cool plan.

I think as the prototypes are provided to him for review, he will either approve them for production and get them in the "Q"... er... "queue" or else return them for additional tweaks. This keeps his factory line running on a continuous basis, helping keep EXO-6 afloat. Any openings of say a week or two between figures would allow one of those limited releases to be inserted.

I'm basically all in on everything except from "Discovery" forward. But I'm thinking that more than a third of the way through the 5 year mission, he will have to ramp up the releases in order to get at least the main crews completed by the reported 5 years.

I’m sure there’s a reason for the 5 year limitation aside from nostalgia of Kirk’s original mission.

It’s no small task to get all of the main crew designed, prototyped, approved and produced let alone all these other characters and accessories (Borg Alcoves, Captain’s Chairs, the teased holo arch, etc.) out the door as well.

What Exo-6 has accomplished thus far is nothing less than impressive but like many, I would’ve liked to see some TNG and TOS in the mix (I’m talking about the classic looks that mean the most to us fans). We don’t have visibility of what behind the scenes complexities exist with these licenses but as others have mentioned, QMx has no bearing on me whatsoever, Exo-6 is the better product.

If this 5 year cap is a for sure “set in stone” thing, maybe the time is coming to focus on essentials, that being the main crew members of the television series. We saw a lot of promising reveals on Tested and they’ve likely continued to work on them behind the scenes so when the gate does open on those licenses, I’m sure Exo-6 will be quick to market.

Nah I don’t recall seeing any other figures mentioned by Nanjin at least. I’m gathering people just assumed if they were getting the main 3, that other figures from the film would be made too.

The only other character from TMP that should be made should be Ilia, I never expected anyone besides those 4 if possible. Too bad we won’t get her now; some time ago I heard from the artist that did her sculpt years ago that Nanjin had been in contact, but it seems that’s come to naught now. Bummer.

He set out a 5 year plan from the start, which was hugely ambitious given the number of characters. I was never hopeful that we would get more than TMP Kirk in that schedule. So the other two are a bonus. Ilia was only ever a remote possibility. Personally, I would have loved Scotty with a moustache in his engineering uniform before he put on the weight but hey ho.

I think TWoK Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are likely, plus Khan, possibly Saavik (but there has been zero buzz about her and the schedule is tight). I would expect some variants of the TOS crew, but I think he is aware that while he's a fan of Chapel (or at least Majel Barrett) and not Chekov, he also understands that the market for Chekov is that bit bigger so I think Chapel will come but as a limited release. I think he will float possible limited releases when he can fit them in the production schedule but fans have to be realistic. He's still a small fish in a big pond and it's his love and dedication to the franchise and the fans that is carrying this through against the odds.

Along with Ilia, I think less popular corner cases like TOS Rand are in jeopardy due to time running out (although he has expressed an interest in doing a cadet/non-com movie uniform and she would be a prime candidate for an STIV version) but that said, once Uhura's uniform is done, Rand is just a uniform without a rank stripe on a standard body, so who knows? It's hard to know how deep he will go with the new franchises but given the time left, he may not go much beyond the top tier so he has time to finish Voyager, DS9, TNG, and TOS plus a couple of aliens.

He's stated that he wants to finish on all the main cast members of STVI (but not Chang so Valeris is probably off the table too). I am hoping that includes Captain Sulu but if that's true that's 7 figures alone. That's a year of releases on its own. I'm sure it's all very stressful.

I think he had sort of toyed with the idea of making Ilia, but never seemed super excited about it. And the fact these female figures all require their own unique body probably doesn't help, which makes me fear now for the likes of Saavik and the various TOS ladies he's teased in the past...

I'm skipping a lot of early figures to save money for later figures that have been implied or outright said to be planned. It would be pretty disappointing if those figures never happen and I could've gotten some of the earlier ones after all.

I would guess it's up for renegotiation after that, so what (besides competition from other producers, and increased cost of that agreement) would stop Nanjin from signing a new contract to continue production of characters he WANTED to produce?

He has said on numerous occasions that if you are wanting a certain line, then skip the others. To me, that always implied that the figures were coming quickly and to be exactly sure of what your funds can handle. That was actually surprising and refreshing to hear. But he also said that if you do skip a figure or line and change your mind later, be prepared to pay hefty aftermarket (Ebay) prices, once they sell out.

A very good point. I always assumed that the "Five Year Mission" was indeed the licensing agreement that he had. If not mistaken, he also mentioned early on that once it was up, he was out of the game. That can obviously change.

He's got a great niche in the market. He's helping a lot of special people that are working in the factory and in the process, providing us with a super cool line of "museum" collectibles. I hope that his plans continue to fruition.

Good point, makes sense.

I do hope it turns into a “continuing mission” as no one has treated the franchise with the level of care as much as Nanjin.

I believe that is part of it but he also wants to build that school so that might have also factored into the 5 year plan.
