Yeah, I think we need to see more pics. Recently, Asmus have been doing video previews for Gandalf, Galadriel, Elven Warriors etc. Maybe they'll put one out for this.
If it is a different head sculpt, I'm wondering why they would change it after the very recent SS Con (which had a pretty positive response)?
Did they have an alternative HS waiting in the wings?

I looked for recent vids, no Legolas yet. Just watching the official unboxing for Galadriel irks me seeing the better paint apps. Looks like the quality control isn’t quite there. I’ve seen a few who have the matching skin tone and then there’s mine like some of you have that doesn’t match and looks like she isn’t wearing makeup.

Look for HD Aragorn sculptor. However, I keep going back and forth if the sculpt for HD Legolas has actually been changed or it’s the paint apps/hair color/lighting throwing me off.

I definitely think it’s been changed. The other sculpt didn’t look much like Legolas either but the determined look was much better. This is just bland. Unlike some I’m really happy with Gandalf. Still salty about HD Aragorn though. How you can show digital files and some in process work and it comes out looking g completely different is beyond me. And this here is another bad sculpt.

Let's be fair - Taiwan is 12 hours behind the east coast of the United States. Not sure where everyone is on these boards, but there's a good chance they posted them and the feedback has been rolling in after they got off work for day. There's also the chance that the community contacts like Rovi can't speak on this without talking to his superiors first - Rovi has been good to us and I wouldn't want him to get reprimanded.

Asmus DOES need to comment, preferably stating they will repaint the hair and ship out in 30-60 instead, but they have built up a lot of good will with their recent efforts that will be lost if they don't comment on this.

The hair color is not the only issue. It looks like a completely different sculpt.

the sculpt is the same i think... only different pictures angle... the real proble is the hair color and the great difference from sculpt to implanted ones... I really hope it's only a bad "flash" pictures that false the colors and in hand it's similar to the prototype ones

The hair color is not the only issue. It looks like a completely different sculpt.

Agreed. Am less worried about the hair coz even the rooted part can get painted - folks have used acrylics on rooted hair before. IMO the original Legolas has a better sculpt. Dunno who that is supposed to be. If production can't be stopped I would start planning a new head release for customers.

Those side by side shots of the the head sculpts don't look even remotely the same.
I know we collectors are a little prone to panic when pictures first come out but.... I don't understand how it is SO different!
And more to the point - why change it? The response was pretty damn positive. Hot Toys is doing the same thing recently - people just won't pre-order things anymore if companies keep pulling the rug of what we are ordering 2 minutes before delivery and replacing them with inferior products.

I mean I have no doubt lighting and angles and other factors play a part - but at the very, very, least the paintjob is completely different (and not in a good way)

The difference is - Hot Toys listed to the negative feedback about the recent Tony Stark and Professor Hulk sculpts and fixed them. And when Hot Toys does make changes to sculpts, lately, they have been for the better, not for worse.

This does not look like a positive improvement.

Had a 'scout' for an image of bloom in TTT. I totally agree about the hairs paint app being poorly matched, but I feel if this is a tweaked sculpt, it may be for the better based on what I found. Thoughts?

Right, and we shouldn’t have to spend hundreds on a new paint job to make it look good. That’s Asmus’ job.

That’s one of the biggest issues lately the paint apps. Inconsistent across Crown Gandalf, Galadriel and now HD Legolas.

Asmus has historically struggled with paint application. They actually put out pretty good sculpts. The tailoring and accessories are among the best in the industry. It did seem like they were making progress on the painting with the recent releases but this figure is just a disaster.

I really like the first sculpt they used. Hell they could have used the exact same sculpt and just did something different with the hair.

I’m one of your biggest fans Asmus and i’ve defended your product multiple times and even over looked things. Honestly this is really getting tiresome. I feel like you haven’t nailed Aragorn yet and this sculpt definitely doesn’t nail Legolas.

I give them credit for at least trying with the eyes on Gandalf, but the hat was inexcusable. Still, the figure was nice looking otherwise, even if Asmus dropped the ball by not offering replacement hats.

Legolas just doesn’t even look like the prototype anymore. It looks entirely different…because it is. Those sculpted braids weren’t visible in the prototype. If they were there, they blended in with the hair. Now they stand out way too much, mostly due to the wrong hair color. And the hair color is a massive issue…I clearly need to have this repainted if I want it to look correct.

This is a massive disappointment from Asmus and a step backwards for all the goodwill they’ve earned with their recent releases. What a shame. I don’t know if I’ll even keep my pre-order anymore.

Agree wholeheartedly. I will keep my preorder but Helms Deep Aragorn was a HUGE miss, the Elven warriors/archers were just insulting, and now this switcheroo. I have every Asmus LOTR released except the Nazgul and steed. Going the wrong direction lately. What’s up, Asmus?

How were the Elven Warrior/archer insulting? Because of the lack of gold robes? Just curious.
