You are wrong! Good day, sir!But no, they're not better.
I'm pretty sure that the Police had zero songs without dark undertones of some sort or another. People think "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" is a happy song, but it ain't really (". . .must I always be alone?"). Roxanne was about a whore. Every Breath You Take is about a stalker. De Doo Doo Doo is about someone trying to get away from the bull____ of language, but finding himself unable and resorting to nonsense. King of Pain, So Lonely, Murder by Numbers, Wrapped Around Your Finger, all very dark songs. Even Sting's attempts to write hopeful songs (Dehumanize Yourself, One World (Not Three)) seem very cautiously optimistic, and couched in a context of human misery. Probably the closest thing to a true love song they did was "Be My Girl," about a blow-up love doll.
One of my top 2 or 3 bands all-time.

I'm too young to have been able to see them during their prime, but I caught their reunion concert in New Orleans and it was ____ing awesome. They were really clicking on all cylinders that night. It was as if they had never stopped playing together.I was lucky enough to see them on the Synchronicity tour way back when. I've also seen Sting a few times on his solo tours.
