Prometheus. I still Love still think its a Amazing movie only thing would change is that they shoot down the other ship instead of destroying the ship. I mean come on why wouldnt it not have top of the line weapons ? That is just one big WTF to me. Anyway i cant wait for more. I still think its a 10.

Only one big WTF from that movie? No wonder you gave it a ten.

Mei Ren Yu (The Mermaid) - 1.5/10

I have liked Stephen Chow movies in the past, Kung Fu Hustle coming to mind, but this was awful. I'll give it a pass on the horrendous FX, and use of stock footage, but I think I laughed twice during the whole movie. Towards the end the movie combined horrific acts of violence with comedy, which I just found disturbing. The success this has had in China makes this all the more disturbing to me.

I gave it a 1.5 for the 2 laughs and for some eye candy.

Forgot all about this movie. It's not even in theater, in this area. Surprise that it is directed and written by Chow, Hing-Ka Chan. Big fan of Steven Chow but no interest in this movie anyway.

*EDIT: Strange how Rotten Tomatoes have a score of 93%

Before We Go: 6/10

Nice, light little movie directed by Captain America himself: Chris Evans! About a woman (Alice Eve) who is stranded in Manhattan after getting her purse stolen and a busker (Evans) who helps her out. Takes place during the course of the night and they get to know each other. Good script, good performances and an overall good job by Evans. Ending is left ambiguous.

Well, it was a big hit in China, so tastes in humor are obviously radically different there. My Wife was originally from Hong Kong, but has lived in the U.S. for over 20 years, she laughed a little more than me at the movie, but she didnt think it was too good. Most Asians don't get a lot of western humor, I remember showing Monty Python and the Holy Grail to her and a friend of hers, they hated it, she often looked over at me as I laughed at the film and several times asked if I could explain what was funny about it. That was about 15 years ago, would be a good experiment to see if her reaction to the film has changed, I bet it has.

I Suppose another WTF could be the engineer or the team not being better prepared in fighting the alien's and why the hell did fastbender character do what he did ? A lot of questions but still love and stand by my rated 10 score for Prometheus. I know some people didnt like it and entitled to not ,but to me its a favorite i love.

I've caught the occasional obscure anime film on TV, & some of them are really quite brilliant. Truly imaginative stuff. You can see that lots of love & heart go into them. I should track a few down when I get around to it.

I watched one the other day about a girl that discovers a kingdom of cat people within her own city, & they try to make her a bride to the prince after she slowly starts to turn into a cat herself while being amongst them. Not exactly 'Akira' type action, but I enjoyed it. :)
Would that be The Cat Returns? I haven't seen that one but it looks very comfy :duff I have a huge backlog of the Japanese Pixar studio to watch :lol

You can find a lot of gems in anime, more likely if you dive into pre 2000 movies.

I love the action in Akira, but I watch it for mind expanding high sci-fi concepts and the parallels with Japanese culture more than anything.

I've always wanted to check out the Anime genre but I have no idea where to start. It's a big mystery to me.

Chances are you've seen anime before and didn't even know it. Anime has been around since at least the 60's, but it took a long time for people outside Japan to start calling it by that name. What I started watching anime it was referred to as japanamation.

There's anime for every genre of tv and movies you can think of, so what would you be interested in?

Mostly porn, but I'm open to all genres.

My personal favorite is Fullmetal Alchemist.

Thanks for the tip.

A classic for me is Enchanted Journey with the chipmunks. Anyone else seen it? I haven't tracked down a DVD yet, but I have a downloaded file of it. We had the VHS growing up.

I admit to being a bit envious of people who really love this movie. It's visually stunning, but I couldn't get past the WTFs :lol

I'm a fan of Prometheus too. It's got issues sure, but I still dig it for - yes the visuals, but I'm a big fan of Noomi too.

Still spewing that HT never made that Dr Shaw figure. :gah:
