John Carpenter tried to get Halloween to get marketed and made by New Line Cinema and paramount but they said it was too scary and wouldn't touch it. So he shot it with an indie company (compass international). And when the movie blew up and was a huge success Paramount and New Line Cinema tried to then buy it from Carpenter and he refused since they turned him down in the first place.

So those companies went on to make their version of Myers and thus was born Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger.

Supposedly a lot of the film was shot with Eric Stoltz. Then had to be reshot with Michael J. Fox. The the scene where Marty jumps into the DeLorean to escape the Libyans, is actually Stoltz

Four weeks into filming, Zemeckis decided Stoltz was miscast. Although he and Spielberg realized reshooting the film would add $3 million to the $14 million budget, they decided to recast. Spielberg explained Zemeckis felt Stoltz was too humorless and gave a "terrifically dramatic performance". Gale further explained they felt Stoltz was simply acting out the role, whereas Fox himself had a personality like Marty McFly. He felt Stoltz was uncomfortable riding a skateboard, whereas Fox was not. Stoltz confessed to director Peter Bogdanovich during a phone call, two weeks into the shoot, that he was unsure of Zemeckis and Gale's direction, and concurred that he was wrong for the role.

Other actors under consideration for the role of Harvey Dent were Mark Ruffalo, Liev Schreiber, and Josh Lucas.

When Paul Greengrass was set to direct, he planned to cast Hilary Swank as Silk Spectre and Joaquin Phoenix as Nite Owl. When Greengrass left the project, Swank and Phoenix did as well.

Nathan Fillion was considered for the roles of The Comedian and Nite Owl.

I loved the casting for Watchmen, but Fillion would have been...interesting.
