Given the new design a lot of thought. I love the OT armour and always will, but the changes they made for Rogue One go further in selling these guys as armoured grunts that can actually fight. The breastplate is narrower to accomodate weapon-handling, the lenses are maybe a bit more plausible for better vision, the leg armour allows greater mobility...the design is growing on me.

As Talibane mentioned, Hot Toys initially looked *twice removed* from the source material (I think we actually discussed this well before the film came out) -- because the re-design was different enough from the OT, and then their sculpt was just a touch softer than what we saw in RO trailers and stills.

Having seen the film twice, I can separate the variances in my head and so far, the HT Rogue One sculpt looks more accurate to that film, than the ANH sculpt does to its respective movie. When properly futzed, I don't see the RO figures looking overly awkward.

I like 'em both, so far...

Yeah but the ANH stormtroopers we got were based off the hero trooper, not the much more widely seen stunt trooper. So a lot of the variance sits right there. Not saying they were perfect, I was calling the helmet as off from the first promo shot, but the Sandtrooper based off the stunt was a lot better.

Though it is hard to say because RO was the singularly WORST treatment of stormies as thoroughly useless "armored" soldiers - even worse than Ewok arrows. They were in essence dummies that waited to be shot or clubbed to death with a little baton wielded by a small-framed woman, or a stick wielded by a blind man. This was one element that at times took me out of the narrative it was so utterly ridiculous.

Totally disagree. RO finally made stormtroopers into the feared death squads ANH said they were. They completely minced the rebels on Scarriff. And don't forget Jyn was basically trained as a freedom fighter by someone even the rebels considered too extreme, and Chirrut was force sensitive and clearly knew his way around a staff in a fight. Heck he shot down Tie Fighters with a blaster with such precision the crash took out a battery emplacement.

And an armored soldier's helmet is for...?:lol

I'm talking about the Jedha scenes. And training is beside the point - I'm talking about basic physical reality. And force sensitive (not even sure what that was all about - he can channel/use the force but doesn't have Jedi powers at all?) means blind guy knows where to swing - it doesn't change the fact it's a thin STICK he's swinging at armor.

It's like watching someone wearing a motorcycle helmet being clubbed to death with a single baton swing. Honestly - it's not only implausible, it's laughably so.:dunno

Those Jedha scenes - the most widely seen due to heavy use in trailers/previews - were just silly and reduced armored mega-soldiers to clowns who literally stood around waiting to be knocked cold or killed.

Backpack is a pain, but damn nice since its an Alice pack frame ruck.

Love that winerackpack - can't wait to get this in hand. The one thing that I have to get over is the long torso and stubby legs. It's so noticeable next to the OT stormie.

Agreed, it turned into complete farce at points. People have said this a gritty handling of a star wars universe or said it's like "Saving Private Ryan". The stormtroopers were basically the henchmen from the Austin Powers movies.

I caved and ordered the set when I realized the parts were going to be pretty tough to come by with it selling out everywhere. Really wanted that stupid winerack pack as well, but hoping it'll look good on the Sandtrooper as I wasn't planning on adding more Stormies to the collection.

I have not even tried to remove any of the nameplates off my OT or variant troopers, so I can't say. The overall dimensions on the plate itself seem the same, but the RO plate is higher up due to the optional black molding that can be placed around the plate.

So the 'winerack' really just carries the squadron's lunch packs?

TK-14057 is like the trooper's craft service person.

Ha! In person looks like its an attempt at a communications system, like a field radio, with a single wire on the right side of the pack running through the plastic right were the antenna slots in. The antenna is a beast, in the normal position shown in the directions, can not fit in a detolf even when in a static pose with no stand.

Selling off one of the exclusive heavy blasters from this set if anyone's interested

:lol Stormtroopers gotta eat!
FYI, this is from the DK Rogue One Visual Guide so take it or leave it.
From page 135 that has this specific TK-14057 trooper pictured on it:
Crystal Patrol Duty
While specialist branches of the Stormtrooper Corps such as Snowtroopers, Scout Troopers and Shoretroopers use customized armor and equipment, the standard Stormtrooper can increase his versatility with field-specific kit. In addition to carrying out police actions in the occupied holy city, these Stormtrooper patrols are tasked with confiscating any Kyber Crystals from citizens, regardless of size or quality, for eventual delivery to Eadu for processing. To better preserve the crystals, Stormtroopers seal collected fragments in vac-sealed, armored canisters carried in a well secured backpack.
The backpack portion says "Weather shroud on top of the pack covers shock-resistant cargo carrier".

So the winerack is for: To better preserve the crystals, Stormtroopers seal collected fragments in vac-sealed, armored canisters carried in a well secured backpack.

These troopers are carrying hippy crystals?

Wow, this is already sold out!! Hope they get back in stock as they are still a pre-order. Hate when pre-orders sell out.
