These are really excellent reference shots for anyone who wants to repaint Drake's mug. The sculpted hair doesn't look quite right when you compare it with the photos. It looks like someone plastered a bunch of spaghetti on his skull, and the color sure doesn't help it any! The hair sculpt on Vasquez looks much better, imo.

I agree that the sculpt doesn't look quite right. I'd REALLY like to see Lonnie do a Frontline sculpt of Drake to match Rolston's mug but we're still waiting on Hudson so who knows if he'll do Drake. I'd buy one for sure.

Btw, does anyone else see a resemblance between Drake and Clancy Brown in the second photo? It must be that grin. I'll bet Drake would've made a pretty decent Kurgan, anyway.

You are so right. He looks like he could be the Kurgan's brother! :rock:rock:rock:rock

Drake COULD use a repaint but I like mine, the overall fig is so badass. I will probably have his smartgun repainted with b-itch as that defines him as the "Tip of the Spear" of the crew, get him a t shirt and might sand off or repaint the stache, maybe at one point do the hair and eyebrows, throw him a scar but I digs him already...

I think that is a definite improvement, just removing the stache helps if it bothers anyone, but the great thing about these "kits" is they give you all you need to customize yours the way you want...

Drake with a shave... sanded it off...

That's a cool looking Drake figure there Pjam.
I passed on it for some others, but seeing you guy's, he does look cool.
And yeah, that mustache sucks. Looked like he'd been drinking kool-aid. :lol
Much better now.

New question: knives!

Does Hicks and Hudson have the same Gerber type knife? Or is Hudson's a thicker blade?

Also, anyone know if Drake has his knife strapped to his shin OR tucked into his boot?

I don't know what kind of knife Hicks has, so I can't answer that question, but Drake's knife was strapped to the side of his left shin. I'll check the DVD again when I get home from work to see if I can see what kind of knife Hicks has.

Here's a link to Drake's knife at the Harry Harris collection: https://www.harryharris.com/dknife.htm

As for Hudson's knife, I used a DML British Commando knife. It is very similar to the Gerber Knife, although not a perfect match. Much closer than the M9 bayonet that was included.

Les, I really hope you get this one. Drake needs to be in the Figuremaster's primo Aliens collection. I'm dying to see you do a repaint of him after that mind-blowing job you did on Ripley. You could really make him look like Mark Rolston. You must complete the Aliens collection.

I may not OWN one...but that is not to say I am not painting one...:D
Thanks Dave.

( I have so little shelf space left for marines now...I have all the actual Alien warriors now, remember? They EAT shelf! and I want them more than the marines. But I do have the core HT group I want! :D And room for a Powerloader and one day...Her Majesty! Here's hoping! :duff )

Thanks Dboz on the knife info!

Just took another look at the DVD and it looks like Hicks does have the same knife as Hudson. Here's a screen cap:

Thanks, DBoz! That helps me immensely. Got the right knives for all and now I know where to put them. I just don't like those GI Joe knives that come with the HT marines.

it bothered me to see sigourney all short and stubby..so i put her on a jakks pacific charlies angels body..the height is perfect and the length of the neck makes it look more like her...now the arms arent as poseable ..they do have bend though..it would be easy to cut the soft feet off and maybe even at the forearm..make a little hole if its not there..and then stick the kit stubs into them....but for now i think she looks very cool as is..now i will have to repaint sometime here..oh and the added bonus of her rubber arms is her jacket sleeves stay up :) enjoy

What did you do with your Drake, if I may ask? More pics of him?

I like the way the upper torso looks... but I had one of those Jakks dolls a while back and hated the "bendy" legs with very limited articulation. Makes figures look pigeon-toed. Got any ideas how to fix that.

Still, the arms without joints or gloves looks great!

Stop yer grinnin' and drop yer linen!

If you guys haven't already checked this out, here's some stuff that will blow you away! Unbelievable wealth of detail and info. Feast your eyes (and imaginations for customizing your figures) on some of this...

WOW! Excellent pictures. Great reference.

I love the "Loco" on the back of Vas' shirt. And finally a good picture of Hudson's knife.

Gotta get that little metal eagle 'bolo' thing for Hudson. There's several places online that sell metal "pins" and such -- I'll bet someone has an eagle that would work. The 'bolo' string is easy.

Definitely looks better with the jacket on. That neck is just too long and skinny.

Bad asss! Yep, has a scar too.
This illustrates very nicely the problem I have with all these colonial marines. No matter how much I look at them, they just don't look like Hudson, Hicks, Drake, Vasques, ...
I'm not a customizer. Nor do I like to send my figures to the talented few capable to alter their image (heh would be difficult too, since I don't open my boxes). I prefer to order them "done" and finished, and the way they are suppose to look. Well as close as possible. Ripley is kind of an exception, because, when will we get a Ripley looking Ripley in the near future? Actually I'm still surprized we got a nearly accurate Aliens Alien.

Again, there's a reason why the paint doesn't look accurate; ACTOR'S LIKENESS and it has to do with paying royalties to license them. Twentieth Century Fox sold the Aliens licence to Hot Toys to make 1:6 figures but I'm sure it was negotiated that they couldn't use the actor's likenesses precisely to avoid having to pay them royalties. It's irritating but it can also be fun since these are technically "model kits" designed to provide the base model with the intent for you to paint and customize them to your personal liking.

Yes, I know all of that Dave. But, every time I look at one of these marines, they just don't look like the ones I know from the movie. And it bugs me. So I cannot relate to them, and won't buy them. That's personal. And since I'm not a customizer, their state of the art accurate armor and weapons don't mean a thing to me. It's just not the characters I have in mind when I think of Aliens.

I have a guest review up tonight from Brant Rusch on Ripley, Hudson and Drake. Enjoy!

Michael, you should really drop this clown, he is just offensive and probably doesn't know 1/10th of the knowledge about Aliens from the average poster here. He didn't even know Hudson was a Stoner head, any newbie knew that, and again, with endless dribble on Film. I don't care... I really wish YOU did this review...

Of course comments like this don't help either... doesn't he know this is the standard female HT body also used for Vasquez?

Even Ellen Ripley’s torso is covered with flesh, with an articulated torso underneath. Only her torso has smooth flesh, a navel, and SQUISHY BOOBIES! No joke, they gave her boobs and nipples made out of that rubberized flesh. Why? Well, remember….this is an Asian product, and those cats just can’t resist shipping every female figure with big old hooters and an optional French Maid outfit. But seriously kids, its so that way you can recreate Ripley from the end of the film when she goes off to hunt for Newt in nothing but her pants, T-Shirt, Web Gear and weaponry. PS: I’ve hunted for screen caps of Sigourney Weaver from Aliens to show this off, and while I’ve found some, it seems this figure gives her far more…ahem..Endowment than she was sporting in real life when she made that film. Again, horny Asian Sculptors.
