That looks terrible. It looks like somebody's kid took sharpie markers and went town on his face! Weird that is only that one section and not anywhere near the back.

What the... what causes that smearing???

There seems to be some kind of black rubber or vinyl beneath the mask. I don't know if it reacts with that somehow, if something is leeching out, or it's an adhesive that's oxidizing...I feel bad for everyone that's experienced this.

I've owned two copies of this figure -- first one was brilliant, intense red with no discernible bleed -- the second was probably a year later and maybe wasn't as brilliant red, but no staining or shadow.

I eventually sold both copies in anticipation of an MCU Spidey (yeah, that's gonna be a long wait), not for fear of staining, but I'm kinda glad I did now. I worry about the eventual MCU version though, although I don't think other HT Spidey figures have had that issue.

I wonder if temperature and humidity have anything to do with it?

I never trust in-package storage for long periods of time because of possible reactions from outgassing or between packing materials and the figure. I've seen way too many stories of people removing boxed figures from storage to see startling degradation of one sort or another. :horror

Actually the head underneath the fabric is straight up plastic. No rubber at all. Not even the neck. So unless the plastic itself is deteriorating and causing some kind of dye to leach out or the moisture level in your home is too high causing the plastic to sweat and stain the fabric then I don't know what else it could be.

Update on my attempts to clean Spider-man's dark spot. Using the q-tip and warm water, I was able to lighten it up quite a bit. Its still noticeable , especially in dimmer lighting, but under lighting its far less visible. Its most noticeable in those last two pics. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it.

Unfortunately one of the webs on his lower left face came loose as I was going over that area..and good way to fix that? A decent fabric glue? Its such a small repair area touching it makes me a bit nervous. I'll probably end up buckling and buying a new one eventually, and hoping its not as much of a headache.

Damn I'm sorry that it's happening like this. Is it just happening in the face area?

Mine was vibrant red for a long time but now it has 2 black streaks unfortunately. I love the figure but wish it had been executed better. I will eventually replace it with a MCU Spidey (if they ever get to one) but it will be a long wait.

I had oily skin and acne problems when I was a teen... but man Peter must have it really bad....

Has anyone ever cut open the mask from the back and then taken it off slightly? Just to see what we're dealing with underneath?

all ASM2 spidey will get this problem

the 2 strips, unfortunately, are the tapes that hold the headculpt to the fabric to prevent movements of the fabric on the HS. i believe the headsculpt is black as well. overtime, the tapes aged become thinner and chemical reaction between the black HS and tape probably resulted the black come through the tape and fabric(kinda like a transmitter). it could also be possible the tapes attract dirt over time.

hence, even if we can clean the dirt away from the fabric, we cannot totally prevent the tape/HS/fabric 3some thingy. sigh

Finally got my hands on an Spidey, this figure is amazing. Can't wait to pose him next to deadpool.

Congrats. The best Spider-Man to date. The technology has come a long way and this design is top notch. I wouldn't sell any of my spideys but if I had to this is the one I would keep.

I sold my spidey because of the 2 stripe issue. I'm waiting for the Avengers version.

I got this during the Popcultcha glitch sale for like $150ish. Haven't had any issues with it either. Glad I did as I like it much better than the Civil War/Homecoming suit. Closer to the comic style I prefer. Near perfect except for the Spider on his back, which I don't see anyway. The Homecoming Tom Holland figure is gonna be short just like Civil War since he's 15 and I'd prefer my Spidey to be taller when grouped with the Avengers. But still really looking forward to the movie as he was great in Civil War. I hated ASM & that costume, and still haven't seen ASM2 (but I love the costume!).
