Looks like I just got scammed out of $3100

What a day! Looking back on this, I was soo stupid, I almost deserve to lose the money. Was getting a roommate to help with the mortgage, but she had to suddenly leave to attend to a sick uncle in Europe. She had first sent me a check for $3100 asking if I would deposit it and help her pay the moving company as she had to rush out.


Fell for the 'my uncle is sick' and need your help. Only thing that kills me: I waited for the check to clear, or so I though. It had shown as a done deal with 3 days before finally rejecting

This is an ooooold scam. I use to rent out my basment to students. Someone tried this on me and would've gotten away with it but the bank caught it and was aware of this scam going around. It really really sucks. I'm sorry to hear about this.

Crap man, that sucks...talk about "no good deed goes unpunished." I agree with Nam that you should report her. If she was your roommate, you should have some personal identification on her and the authorities should be able to track her down.

Thanks, everyone. Yeah, I waited until the check showed as posted and not pending, so I thought it had gone thru no problem. Not until today did I discover it had bounced.

Never met this person..........it was via a Craigslist location. Man lost $3100 to a woman and no happy ending...that's the real sad part of the tale
