Re: 1/4 Scale NECA Review and Thoughts

Sadly, I agree with a lot of his points:

1. The arms constantly fall out of the sockets.
2. The netting is cheap and flimsy, and breaks incredibly easily.
3. The lack of the ability to bend the torso makes it hard to get good poses.
4. The ankles suck.
5. I was also disappointed that some of the dreads in the back of the head were clumped together.

Are any of these deal breakers on a $70 figure? No, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating.

Re: 1/4 Scale NECA Review and Thoughts

You kid yourself. You wanted this figure to fall below your ridiculous expectations all along just so you could feel 'vindicated'. Its been pretty clear from your earliest posts that you have it in for NECA as though they kidnapped your child. This figure turned out exactly like you wanted. So lets move on. :monkey1

Re: 1/4 Scale NECA Review and Thoughts

Probably better for this to be a separate thread from the general 1/4 scale thread, since the criticism of the OP's post could be focused here.

I really don't understand why all the NECA discussions on this forum seem to degenerate into insults, though. I don't care if you love or hate something, or someone else's opinion on a toy/collectible. That doesn't give you the right to start hurling insults. Anymore insults of the type that I deleted here, and folks are gonna start receiving infractions.

Regarding the substance of the first post, I'm actually glad to see someone nit-picking the flaws. Whenever I consider buying something, I like to have all the information I can. And frankly, many of you who really like the 1/4 scale Predator seem to ignore and accept the flaws that others might see.

It does seem that the OP was setting his expectations a bit high though, considering that: 1) this is NECA, not Sideshow or Hot Toys; and 2) this costs less than $100. NECA may have tried to sell this initially as something more than what it turned out to be, and maybe that justifies a certain degree of frustration toward them, but track record has to trump words, doesn't it?

Re: 1/4 Scale NECA Review and Thoughts

Its a great figure for what it is.It does have a lot of faults BUT if you accept that this is a NECA predator that came in under 100$ You can live with the results.

My 2cents for what its worth.

Re: 1/4 Scale NECA Review and Thoughts

I didn't even read the original post, but I think it's safe to say...

GTFO :rock

Phew, this guy ROCKS! I went to TRU today and was totally blown away. They had all three versions (I guess the woman I spoke too last night couldn't tell the difference between the two unmasked versions), so I got every single one of them at $70 each. A friend of mine also wanted me to pick up a masked figure for him, so I asked if they had another case and they did. Someone brought it up and we got the masked one from there.

Anyway, my friend loves his figure and won't stop talking about it. Over on my end, I already decapitated the other two bodies so they're back in the box and ready for sale. Here are some pics we took when we got home (after the second masked Predator was given to my bud):

Hopefully the daylight will be good enough tomorrow for me to take some pics and review him. But let me tell you guys, this is probably Figure of the Year for me. It's astonishing how we've never gotten something like this before, I mean it's the 1987 character we all know and love -- blown up. Opening these things, I felt like a little kid at Christmas, back when all the presents seemed so big because I was so small. Only now, the presents actually ARE big.

Today was totally amazing. After I was through with them, the Tigard TRU now just has the unmasked ones from that second case.

Re: 1/4 Scale NECA Review and Thoughts

i don't think i've ever reviewed anything i hated this poorly

even when i see a harry potter film, i usually find SOMETHING decent in the film that i didn't mind seeing

amazing

well, i've got 3 cases of sucky "pvc" figures coming next week, sucks i wasted all that money :rolleyes2

Re: 1/4 Scale NECA Review and Thoughts

Haven't had any shoulder joint issues with mine. Really the only nitpick I have is that the hands are a tad loose, so you have to push them in when that happens. That's about it. I completely disagree with the "marginally better than usual" paintwork part, but we're all entitled to our own opinions. :)

Glad you regret buying this piece, Nox. I'll get back to loving mine because I honestly can't remember the last time I've felt this happy with a purchase. And from NECA, nonetheless.

Didnt get to make it to TRU today, but damn now I wish I had made an effort too. I might try and get up there early in the week to see. Knowing the TRU near me they wont have them, they never seem to have anything when I go in there.

I just did the bio helmet mod using Tankmans method. Very happy with the results!

For anyone still confused I'll do a step by step guide that will hopefully clear up alot of questions.

This is what worked for me. Took a total of 25 minutes or so.

1. pop off the predators head from his body (comes off pretty easily and goes back on easily as well)

2. I let the head soak in really hot water for about 5 minutes to kind of soften up the glue so that it will be easier to pull off the bio.

3. i started by inserting a flat head screw driver through the top rear center part of his helmet and gently lifting up. You'll hear the glue kind of making popping sounds as the bio is separating from his head. once the top is loose, just kind of work your way around the sides the best you can. the bottom mouth areas were glued pretty tight on mine. basically so tight, i couldn't wedge the flat head under it so I just peeled off the entire bio helmet from his head (pulling from the rear of the bio toward his face with quite alot of force) until the entire helmet lifted. be careful because the plastic used for the bio is VERY soft once heated up.

NOTE: it took a few different soakings in hot water to soften up all the way) some people were able to take just the mouth piece off leaving the top dome part on the head.. this wasn't the case for me as the mouth piece was glued pretty good to the face. You can try to get the mouth piece off first instead of taking the entire helmet off.

4. once you have the bio off, you may need to soak it once more in hot water in order to soften up the mouth piece so it can be pulled off easier.

5. once the bio is in two pieces, you will need to shave off the little "teeth" like molding that's on the inside of the MOUTH piece. I used an xacto knife for this. be sure to shave as much of it completely off or else this piece will cause you to still have the gap. It will take a few test fits to get right.

6. from here on out its mainly about testing and fitting until you can eliminate the gap. once you get the general idea of how the mask needs to be positioned go ahead and pop the preds head back onto his body if you havent already.

7. once you have the predators head back on, glue the bio helmet back together first. when the bio helmet is in one piece and the glue has dried, glue the helmet back onto the predators face.

now your predator doesn't look like hes wearing shades! :yess:

Again, this is what worked for me. others have had slightly different methods. It really depends how tight the mouth piece is glued down. if you can get away with just taking off the mouth piece, it will save you alot of time.

Checked my local Toys r Us today, No Predators. Honestly i'm kinda glad they didn't have them. I know if I saw them in person I'd be forced to buy another one, and I REALLY don't have the money to do that right now.:lol

My Closed Mouth from TFAW will be here Monday though.:impatient:

Re: 1/4 Scale NECA Review and Thoughts

While I love this figure and it is beautiful, I can't dismiss some of his points as I do agree with some of them. My bone trophies fell apart when I brushed against them with my hand, but it was a simple fix with superglue. The netting developed a couple of tears (not sure how) but superglue worked for that more or less. My right shoulder joint and cannon mount is very loose, but I've found a pose with the legs and ankles where it doesn't fall over. Not sure what he's talking about with the quills not being present on the masked version because they are there. Overall though, this is an excellent figure, a dream come true!

That's because he was expecting this to have the same coolness as something that costs $3000 :rotfl
